Brad Glynn talks about the origins of the happy accident that is their mini donut beer. Jason alludes to the balance you need to have for a specialty beer. Jason asks about their beverage options which now include more mocktails and slushies. Brad and Jason talk about the evolution of alcohol service at the fair over the last few years and the factors influencing the shifts.

Dave Schwartz makes his weekly appearance on Drivetime with DeRusha live from the Fair! Jason talks about his upper crust but not rich people seats he had at the Twins game yesterday. Jason asks if Dave could have any season ticket (minus the Wild), which would he want? They also chat about what time they usually head to bed and their (lack of) work out dates with their wives.

Jason and Dave talk about some scary topics parents have to talk to their kids about (eventually). In their third segment, Jason and Dave wade into some sports topics including Max Brosmer being cut by the Vikings.

They then wade into the controversial 8647 seed art piece that was taken down at the fair. Andrew Zimmern joins Jason on the WCCO Radio porch to close out the hour.

Andrew Zimmern is an Emmy & James Beard award-winning TV personality, chef, writer & teacher. Andrew thinks the Minnesota State Fair is as big as it gets for a socio-cultural gathering. He shares a reason why the State Fair police should be coming for him soon. They both get romantic about what the fair is, how it connects people and previous bits that have found new life.

In their second segment they talk about the restaurant business during COVID and how Andrew’s professional life evolved into. Andrew details the projects he’s currently involved with and what his schedule looks like when they’re in production. Jason and Andrew wrap things up discussing the new foods at the fair this year.

Affordability is a big talker at the Fair this year. Dr. Tyler Schipper is an economist at the University of St. Thomas. He and a team of students have been tracking the annual price changes at the Fair. They call themselves the Purple Price Trackers. He joins Jason to go over the index he’s created, the data and his thoughts behind it. They talk about how paying with cards vs cash, where serves you best value and who Dr. Schipper would like to get more information about.
