As a mum, there is nothing I wouldn’t do to protect my little boy and I was honestly shocked to hear statistics like at least 1 child under 5 years dies from an accident of which over 75% take place in the home. Our homes should be safe places for our little ones to explore and thrive and so I am super excited by this week’s guest as we can learn how to keep our little ones as safe as they can be at home.
This week I am joined by Kate Ball, founder of Mini First Aid @minifirstaid, Kate is a paediatric first aid specialist, mum of 6 (including 2 sets of twins!!) and featured on BBC 1 Dragons' Den in 2021 securing investment from Sara Davies MBE.
On this episode Kate shares some very important information on the safety regulation of products and the numbers to look for are below:
BS EN71 Series: safety requirements for toys
BS EN 1930:2011: safety barriers (stair gates)
BS EN 16654:2015: consumer fitted finger protection devices for doors
Whilst we are talking about keeping our homes safe, I think it is important we think about how we can make them a nurturing environment too. Encouraging communication, language and imagination in our children is beautiful to watch and their early years provide such a powerful time for growth and opportunity.
