One of our favorite conversations this year was with Ruth Reichl, the legendary food journalist and former editor of Gourmet Magazine. In her newest book Save Me the Plums, Ruth talks about the wild 10 years she spent at Condé Nast and the traumatic folding of the beloved magazine. She joined Amanda and Daniel in Eater's studios to dish on the changing world of food media.

Ah, 2019. It was the year of the celery juice phenomenon, thirsty brands on Twitter, Game of Thrones food anachronisms, high profile restaurant divorces, and Impossible doing the, well... impossible. This year provided all sorts of fodder for our weekly stories segment, and to wrap it all up, we're dedicating an entire episode to the stories that defined 2019: the good, the bad, the ugly, and the downright ridiculous. We asked a bunch of our friends from the newsroom to join us in discussing their favorites, but just a quick disclaimer: we will NOT be discussing chicken sandwiches of any variety.
Stories:
Burger King Delivered Beef Whoppers to Customers Expecting "Impossible"
Liquid Death's Canned Water Will Murder Your Thirst
A Mysterious Gut Doctor is Begging Americans to Throw Out "This Vegetable"
A Disposable Coffee Cup Made an Accidental Appearance on Game of Thrones
Who is the Trump-Supporting Billionaire Funding Momofuku?

It feels like Christmas bars are taking over. These unabashedly kitschy, tinsel-and-ribbon adorned yuletide popups are slinging good cheer and plenty of booze all over the country, and we wanted to know why people love them so much. So we called up Beth McKibben of Eater Atlanta, where at least 12 different Christmas bars are attracting massive crowds, and Greg Boehm the founder of Miracle, the popup making it all happen.
Then, we get into the biggest stories of the week, from McDonald's attempt at a new chicken sandwich, to how one entrepreneur is skirting Trump's tariffs on French wine, and how Edible Arrangements is getting in on the CBD craze.

McDonald's is Desperate for a Trendy Chicken Sandwich
Edible Arrangements is Leaning Into the "Edible" Part

Turns out, lots of chefs aren't as great at writing as they are at cooking. So how do they bring their culinary visions to the pages of a cookbook? With help from people like JJ Goode, who help them translate their stories and recipes for home cooks. JJ joined Amanda and Daniel in studio to talk about how he got into the world of cookbook ghostwriting, and why even as a self-proclaimed lazy cook, he still loves checking out wildly difficult recipes.
Then, we get into the biggest stories of the week, from a super expensive strawberry, to an alt milk burn, and a definitive ranking of all the best iced coffee drinks out there.

Very rarely is Thanksgiving an error-free affair. We asked you to call in and tell us about your most disastrous Thanksgiving mishaps, and you delivered. From wasp attacks, to whipped cream on the ceiling, and poorly behaved relatives, we've got it all in this special holiday call-in episode, including a phone call from (drum roll, please).... Daniel's mom!
Then, we get into the biggest stories of the week, from a Burger King lawsuit to some big Chick-fil-A news and more, plus Amanda and Daniel respond to some great listener emails.

Chances are, you've got a favorite grocery store. Whether it's the employees, the childhood nostalgia of a hometown market, or the unique products that make yours great, everyone seems to have that one grocery store they're obsessed with. Stores all over the country have built cult followings, and we wanted to know: what is it about the grocery store that we love so much? Jaya Saxena joins us to lay out her theory, and then we hear from Eater's editors about their favorite places across the country. Did yours make the list?
Then, we get into the biggest food stories of the week, from the "chicken parm bro" phenomenon, to an ill-advised take on poutine and how Amanda found herself deep in Daniel's credit card receipts and more.
Stories:
• How Chicken Parm Became an Aphrodisiac
• Are Alt-Milks Taking Out Big Milk?
• An Arby's Tried to Ban Children
