Reflecting on this conversation, I realized almost every point Andrew hit on turned the opposite direction culture and systems within it tell us to. I found myself thinking sarcastically, “well that’s a foreign concept!” Lower income inspiring creativity, sacrifice to live out your values, the benefit of a large family, ‘skipping’ high school, waiting until kids are developmentally ready instead of pushing academic milestones early, imitating the best people you can find and expressing ideas instead of yourself… it’s all the opposite of what we are told to do but exactly what we all need to hear. Parent or not, listen up. Andrew Pudewa of IEW is imparting wisdom and concepts Cecily and I both could have benefited from hearing before becoming parents.
