In this podcast episode of The Big Dawgs podcast, Manning Sumner welcomes Ricky Jean Francois, former football defensive tackle for the San Francisco 49ers, as well as the Indianapolis Colts, Redskins, Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, and Detroit Lions. After being a part of the NFL league for 10 years, he is now a Dunkin Donuts multiple franchise owner, entrepreneur, and investor.
In this podcast episode, Manning and Ricky reminisce on their coach-athlete training relationship, which was also as they recall, a “love-hate” relationship. Ricky reflects on the brutal workout experiences he and his football peers endured when training with Manning, who was purely dedicated to being a strength and conditioning coach who pushed his athletes to their limits- back in his warehouse gym, Legacy Fit (now called Legacy). Ricky explains how those training experiences with Manning made him into the man he is today. Ricky also reveals how he pivoted from the football realm to the financial realm, where he got involved in commercial real estate and investing in order to accumulate generational wealth. In that, he advises athletes and the youth to become self-sufficient, curious, and to take advantage of their resources now in order to do the same. Ricky says, “Once you make that commitment, nothing should be able to stop you”, and just as Manning taught Ricky during their training days: “If you cheat that rep, you cheat yourself”, in all aspects of life.
