To celebrate our very special 200th episode, we were honoured to host Dr Arthur Swift (Plastic Surgeon based in Vancouver, Canada)
Arthur has been at the forefront of injectables from the very beginning, starting in the early 1990's when there were no mentors or guidelines. Originally trained as a plastic surgeon, Arthur very quickly identified how transformative non-surgical treatments would be and self-trained himself.
Over the past 30 years, Arthur has established himself as one of the most revered thought leaders in the injectable world. He has lectured in every continent, is a speaker for every injectable brand and has trained tens of thousands of injectors.
We discuss:
- Our joint IA X Swift Beauty competition (and announce the winner at the end of the podcast!)
- Arthur's early years and the career crossroads he had to choose between
- Arthur's first experence with Botox and the struggles he initially had
- The influence that Leonardo Da Vinci had on his method of assessing and treating a face
- How and why he uses callipers when examining patients
- Balancing on label vs off label teaching and why we need both
- Exploring his 'one up, one over' (gunshot) technique for treating the temple fossa - whjere it came from, why he chose it and how he's adapted it over time
- 'Blending' fillers with saline or local anaesthetic – when and why he started doing this?
- Hyaluronic acid vs biostimulant fillers and where these fit in his tool box
- His view on the new toxins that are launching and how this may change how we practice including long-acting and short-acting brands
- Whether Arthur uses ultrasound or not
- How he approaches managing a vascualr occlusion
- His views on the future of aesthetics
