巴拿馬運河是許多人對中美洲最底端的國家— 巴拿馬唯一的印象。 學生時期這個名詞不斷在教科書出現，不過真正了解它為什麼改變全世界的人並不多。 想想以前船隻如果要從美國東岸到西岸，需要一路航向世界底端— 阿根廷的烏斯懷雅再繞上來。而打通巴拿馬運河意味著太平洋可以直接連接到大西洋，航線從兩萬多公里降成八千多公里！不只減低運輸成本，也打通全世界的經濟動脈。
