Sodium plays a vital role in fluid balance, not getting enough of it can lead to dehydration, especially during high-intensity exercise or outside in the heat. If you are feeling low energy, muscle cramping, headaches you could be sodium deficient.

Most people are so afraid of salt increasing blood pressure that they forget that SALT is an essential mineral, not toxic!

Do you drink coffee? 7 in 10 Americans drink coffee every week! Well, coffee leads to large amounts of salt loss - we lose 1/4th teaspoon of salt per 2 cups of coffee out in the urine.

Sodium is also an essential mineral needed for regulating nervous system firing, controlling blood volume, muscle contractions...etc. Our kidneys are very efficient at excreting excess sodium but we can’t synthesize sodium---thus you are better off getting “too much” than not enough!

Lastly, without enough sodium your body will pull magnesium and calcium from your bones, thus getting enough salt helps your bones hold on to valuable calcium and magnesium!
