This week I discuss the importance of limiting your consumption of cheap vegetable oils!
There is definitely a trend between obesity and the rising consumption of industrial seed oils like corn, safflower, soybean, canola, and grapeseed oil. The restaurants and big food companies are focused on profit margin, not your health, so it's important to read labels and ask your favorite restaurant exactly what they are cooking your food in!
We have to take a closer look and realize that it's not necessarily the carbohydrate you're consuming that is the cause of weight gain, it can very well be the oil that food is being cooked in or prepared with. Potato chips and french fries are primarily cooked in high-linoleic oils such as corn, soybean, sunflower, and/or canola. These would be two items to avoid like the plague, right off the bat!
Bottom Line: Vegetable oils have become a major category of food in our diet over the last hundred years, during which time obesity has gone from obscurity to commonplace, so in our fight against obesity, reducing vegetable oils and their primary fat, linoleic acid, in our diets seems like an intelligent place to start!
