Episode 45: Teri Mosey discusses nutrition

Today Debbie has Teri Mosey on her show. Teri is back for the second time to talk about nutrition and natural foods.

She talks about how the way we eat needs to fit us as individuals, so we don’t need to eat at exact times, nor do we need to eat only specific things for particular meals. For example, eggs aren’t only for breakfast, and she actually recommends having soup for breakfast. It’s just socially accepted rules that require us to eat specific things at particular times.

Again, for the same reasons she refrains from recommending joining what she calls the “tribes” of eating. This dedication to a particular kind of diet glosses over individual dietary needs, so keeping your diet varied and not sticking to an arbitrary set of rules will serve you better nutritionally.  

What she does advocate is natural food, because it will be a better choice no matter who you are. Especially in the U.S., it isn’t necessary for us to eat foods packed with preservatives and other chemicals. There is generally an abundance available, so natural foods are easy to get most of the time. You don’t need to plan for food to last for months or years on your shelf.

She also points out that 80% of the immune system is actually part of the digestive system. At this time of year, many people get sick, and often it’s the kids going back to school who get the blame, but a healthy immune system developed from a good diet, will be able to fight off germs from school or because of the colder season.
