A number of studies in which the brain tissue of people who have died of dementia have revealed the presence of microbial species such as Porphyromonas gingivalis, Fusobacterium nucleatum, and Tannerella forsythia--all oral microbes. This is an example of translocation, i.e., the migration of microbes from one body site to another. But does this cause or accelerate dementia? This remains an unsettled issue. 

However, if you have had an oral microbiome test and you have one or more of these species in your mouth, should you eradicate it? Dental hygiene is likely not enough. For this reason, I created a homemade oral rinse using a combination of the fatty acid derivative, monolaurin, with the essential oil from peppermint that is intended for short-term use:

Monolaurin Oral Rinse
This recipe yields a 2% monolaurin solution. The inclusion of peppermint essential oil adds additional antimicrobial effects. 

Makes 100 ml (3.5 ounces)

2000 mg monolaurin (powder or liquid)
70 ml filtered water
30 ml glycerol liquid
4 drops peppermint essential oil

In clean glass container, combine monolaurin, water, glycerol, and peppermint. Cap and shake. Be sure to shake prior to use. 

Rinse, then spit (do not swallow), for 10 minutes once per day for no more than 14 days.

We've been fermenting HUMAN-SOURCED microbes to generate very high microbial counts and obtain specific health benefits. The end-result looks and smells sort of like conventional yogurt, but it is NOT yogurt. (I called it "yogurt" for lack of a better term.) It's my way of generating high counts of important microbes that most people have lost due to antibiotics and other factors. You can enjoy this unique "yogurt" with some blueberries, nuts, or your choice of natural sweetener.

Apoprotein B provides a virtual count of the lipoprotein particles in the bloodstream that cause coronary heart disease. It is often held up as superior to the widely used LDL cholesterol value. Is this true?

It is true, but it does not mean that measuring apoprotein B tells you much about health. Compare this to the enormous amount of insight provided by measuring the REAL cause of heart disease: small LDL particles that gives you an entire universe of insight into your overall health, as well as risk for heart disease. And it is wonderfully and completely manageable with some simple strategies.

Why has yogurt making gone viral?

First of all, it's NOT yogurt. It looks and smells like yogurt. By FDA regulations, something called yogurt must be fermented with traditional yogurt-making microbes Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus. That's NOT what we are doing.

Instead, we are fermenting human microbes, i.e., microbes that are adapted to the human body and provide substantial benefits but have been lost by most people because of their susceptibility to common antibiotics. Using my methods (prolonged fermentation, addition of prebiotic fiber, selecting microbial species to achieve specific effects) we obtain hundreds of billions of microbes per serving for greater benefits. 

These are the concepts I introduced in my Super Gut book and extended further in the Super Body book.

The evidence is growing that suggest that microplastics, or more specifically smaller nanoplastics, are triggers for atherosclerotic disease with increased risk for heart attack, stroke, and death. 

While your doctor wastes your time and money obsessing about cholesterol and statin drugs that should have been discarded decades ago, you need to address the REAL factors that cause heart disease. Abdominal visceral fat, i.e., fat within the abdominal cavity that surrounds abdominal organs, is unique and the source of so many common health problems. While people who are overweight with a protuberant abdomen almost always have an excess of abdomen visceral fat, it can also occur with a flat abdomen.

There's one truly helpful value on a standard cholesterol panel: triglycerides. Ironically, it's also the value most likely to be ignored or mismanaged because the doctor wastes your time by focusing on the useless total and LDL cholesterol values, having been brainwashed by the flawed science and pharmaceutical marketing.
