Laura Houston is a certified Master Chi Running coach

in the Seattle area.  Today we talk about how to get faster
running and not blaming the aging process!

 

·         Focus on

whole body movement and connection

·         I love

the idea and reminder to “meet your body where it is
at!”  

·         Running

as with everything…not once size fits all or one program.

·         Running

efficiency, reduce injury rate and mind body connection.

·         Chi

Running: different directions of gravity pull you down and up

·         Start by

finding full body alignment and what it feels like

·         Gravitational
loads – how does your body react and respond to the load and
alignment

·         It’s a

process

 

How do we get faster running?  It’s not about age!

1.       How do you move your

body throughout the day and your habits

2.       Observe your posture

and movement through the day

3.       Pay attention to how

do you hold yourself up during the day?  Movement patterns and
habits

4.       How does strength

training help?  Is your spine in alignment?  Core engaged
when needed? Try to sit on a floor, get off the chair right, move
well during the day…find where you are missing the movement
patterns to move well

5.       Start your run with

10 minute walk- a superfood for movement!

6.       What is your heart

rate?  Keep aerobic (listen to Maffetone podcast and Mark
Allen- add links) lower heart rate to get faster 

7.       Speed work once a

week 

8.       “Relax into speed”

to get faster

9.       Alignment and

relaxation while running

10.   Notice where you are holding tension in

your body- reflective core and let go

11.   Pay attention to the process and change

your mindset

12.   Again meet your body where it is

at…remember that one!

 

Laura Houston — Master Instructor

Laura has been teaching Chi Running and Chi Walking since

2006. She first came across it in 2005 while training for Vancouver
International marathon, and feels it helped her qualify for the
Boston marathon. Chi Running had such a profound impact on her
running, increasing her endurance and reducing her recovery time,
that she wanted to share it with others. She was trained by Master
Instructor Chris Griffin, and has traveled around the country on
numerous occasions, assisting Danny Dreyer, or helping Master
Instructor Mary Lindahl train new instructors. She has enjoyed
helping others experience pain free running and walking, and loves
the ‘aha’ moments her clients have when it clicks in their
body. Laura’s job to show you ‘how’; your job to ‘feel it’ and
learn the language of your body. This is what Laura loves
doing most - helping you make that connection to bring the joy and
