Let’s just say it…
If you’re not getting clients, it’s probably not because the industry is saturated.
It’s because you don’t have a client-getting system.
In this episode of Estheticians in Business, Allyson breaks down the real reason your books aren’t full and walks you through the 3 foundational pieces of getting clients plus the missing link most estheticians ignore: traditional vs non-traditional marketing.
This is your no-fluff, real-talk guide to getting visible, getting clear, and actually getting booked.
Why posting randomly is not a strategy
The 3 core pieces every esthetician needs to get clients
The difference between traditional and non-traditional marketing
Why consistency matters more than motivation
How to create a simple system that actually brings in bookings
If no one is booking, the problem isn’t your pricing…
it’s that no one is seeing you.
You need consistent visibility, not occasional bursts of motivation.
Focus on:
Showing up consistently on 1–2 platforms
Getting in front of people regularly (online and in person)
Repeating your message so people remember and trust you
Key takeaway:
Visibility creates opportunity. Silence creates empty books.
If someone lands on your page and doesn’t know what you do within seconds, they’re leaving.
You need to be known for something specific.
Instead of:
“I offer customized facials”
Say:
“I help women 40+ improve fine lines and skin texture with results-driven facials”
Key takeaway:
Confused people don’t book. Clear people get paid.
You can’t hint your way into a fully booked schedule.
People need clear direction.
Strong CTAs sound like:
“DM me ‘FACIAL’ and I’ll send the booking link”
“I have 2 openings this week, message me to grab one”
Key takeaway:
If you don’t ask, they don’t act.
This is where most estheticians go wrong.
Getting clients is NOT just posting on Instagram.
Often overlooked, but one of the fastest ways to grow.
Examples:
Asking for referrals
Talking about your services during appointments
Local partnerships (hair stylists, gyms, boutiques)
Networking events
Word of mouth
Key takeaway:
Your next client is likely already connected to your current one.
This is how you grow your visibility at scale.
Examples:
Instagram content and reels
Email marketing
Website and SEO
Booking systems and follow-ups
Key takeaway:
Posting without a strategy is just digital journaling.
This is where momentum happens.
Example system:
Client comes in → you educate + plant a referral seed
You follow up after their appointment
You share results online
Their friend sees it and hears about you
That’s how you build consistent client flow.
Most estheticians don’t have a client problem.
They have:
A consistency problem
A clarity problem
A lack of a real system
Keep it simple:
3 posts per week
5–10 conversations (DMs, in-person, follow-ups)
1 direct booking post
That’s it. No overcomplicating.
Today:
Post something that leads directly to a booking
Start one real-life conversation about your services
Do that consistently, and you’ll already be ahead of most estheticians.

In this episode of Estheticians in Business, Allyson breaks down one of the most overlooked (and underutilized) parts of your business:
Retail.
Because let’s be honest… most estheticians don’t choose retail lines strategically.
They choose them because:
a rep convinced them
the packaging is cute
another esthetician uses it
or they liked one product
…and then wonder why it doesn’t sell.
If you’ve ever felt confused about what retail line to choose, how to add a second line, or why your products aren’t moving — this episode will give you clarity.
• Why retail is more than “extra income”
• How retail directly impacts your retention and results
• The biggest mistake estheticians make when choosing a line
• How to strategically choose (or add) a retail line
• The 4 questions you must ask before committing to any brand
• What actually makes retail sell (hint: it’s not the brand)
• Red flags to watch for when choosing products
• How to integrate retail naturally into your services
Retail isn’t just about making more money (even though… yes, it does that).
It should:
support your client’s results at home
increase retention
increase your average ticket
make rebooking easier
Even something as simple as selling $1,000 in retail per month can add $6,000+ a year to your income.
Choosing a line based on:
trends
aesthetics
what someone else is using
Instead of asking:
“Does this actually fit my business?”
If your retail line is:
too complicated
too broad
or hard to explain
…it won’t sell consistently.
Before choosing (or adding) a retail line, ask:
Acne, anti-aging, sensitive skin, holistic, etc.
If it’s random → it won’t sell.
Do you use it?
Do you understand it?
Have you seen results?
You are the walking proof.
If it’s too complicated… they won’t do it.
Simple routines = better compliance = better results.
Your retail should:
enhance your treatments
align with your ingredients/approach
reflect your brand standards
It’s not the brand.
It’s:
how you talk about it
how you introduce it during the service
how simple you make it
how consistently you recommend it
You don’t need a better line.
You need better integration.
🚩 You feel confused learning it
🚩 There are too many options
🚩 You’re not excited to talk about it
🚩 You don’t use it yourself
🚩 You chose it based on price or trends
You don’t need 5.
Start with:
1 line (beginner)
2 lines (ideal for growth)
max of 3 if you’re very intentional
More lines ≠ more sales
Clarity = more sales
Retail doesn’t need to be overwhelming.
It needs to be:
aligned
simple
and easy for your clients to say yes to

In this episode of Estheticians in Business, Allyson is back behind her desk for the first time since having her baby — matcha in hand, baby monitors on, and finally a quiet moment to record.
And we’re talking about something that doesn’t get said enough:
Burnout doesn’t always mean you hate your business.
Sometimes it just means something is off.
If you’ve been feeling unmotivated, overwhelmed, or like you just don’t want to show up right now… this episode will help you figure out why.
Because the real question isn’t:
“What should I do next?”
It’s:
“Why do I feel like this?”
Inside this episode, Allyson breaks down the 3 real reasons estheticians burn out and exactly what to do depending on which one you’re in.
• Why burnout happens even when you love your business
• The difference between being tired vs being discouraged vs being overwhelmed
• Why pushing harder is often the worst solution
• How lack of results can kill motivation (and what to do about it)
• Why consistency matters more than immediate traction in marketing
• How poor scheduling creates unnecessary stress in your business
• A simple system to organize your time and reduce overwhelm
Most burnout falls into one of these three categories:
Not lazy. Not unmotivated. Just tired.
As a business owner, you’re constantly:
seeing clients
creating content
answering messages
handling admin
thinking about your business 24/7
Rest is not a reward. It’s a requirement.
If you’re exhausted, the solution isn’t more discipline.
It’s recovery.
You’re showing up… posting… trying…
and getting little to no response.
This leads to the thought:
“Why am I even doing this?”
But here’s the truth:
Marketing works on repetition, not instant results.
Clients need to:
see you multiple times
build trust
understand your value
Silence doesn’t mean failure.
It usually means your audience is still warming up.
If needed, adjust your messaging — not your consistency.
If your days feel chaotic, it’s usually a structure issue.
Signs of this:
jumping between tasks all day
forgetting important business actions
feeling busy but not productive
The fix isn’t “do more.”
It’s organize what you’re already doing.
If you feel overwhelmed, start here:
Write down everything you need to do in a week
Include both business + personal life
Assign each task a time block
Treat it like a non-negotiable appointment
Optional:
Create a daily Top 3–6 priorities list to stay focused.
Burnout is feedback.
It’s not telling you to quit.
It’s telling you to adjust.
You may need:
• rest
• better messaging
• more consistency
• stronger systems
Your job isn’t to be perfect.
Your job is to keep learning and adjusting.

In this episode of Estheticians in Business, Allyson records her first podcast after having her baby — newborn on her chest, sitting on the couch, and keeping it very real about what entrepreneurship and life can actually look like.
But today’s topic is one that sparked a lot of conversation online.
Allyson recently shared that the economy is not the sole reason many estheticians feel like their business is struggling right now… and let’s just say people had opinions.
In this episode, she breaks down why slow bookings often have less to do with the economy and more to do with something that is completely fixable: visibility, consistency, and follow-up.
If your business has felt slower lately, this episode will help you understand what may actually be happening — and what you can start doing this week to change it.
You’ll learn:
Why clients don’t disappear… they just stop hearing from you
The difference between busy work and money-making work in your business
Why inconsistent posting hurts bookings more than you think
How lack of follow-up is leaving money on the table
The simple visibility shifts that bring clients back into your books
Most of the time, a slow week isn’t proof that your business is failing.
It’s just feedback.
And the good news? The things that usually cause slow bookings are completely fixable.

2️⃣ Bring-a-Friend Referral Cards or QR Codes
