This is the fourth in a series of interviews with people who have suffered and dealt with anxiety in their own way. Many people have used a mixture of therapies and medication and have insights into the way they have dealt with and overcome many of the challenges associated with anxiety and depression.
Their stories help to show the vast range of circumstances where anxiety shows up and gives us all hope that our lives can be better in the future.
These are their stories, and you are free to take from them whatever you wish. Dawn is not a doctor or psychologist and therefore please consult your own medical practitioners before taking any action with regards to medication.
For the last 15 years Libbie Walsh has been helping other people with their lives whilst she develops her own understanding of her own trauma and anxiety. In this episode, she talks to Dawn all about the trauma she suffered as a child including the narcissistic abuse from her mother and how she came to the decision to go on her own journey of self-discovery and healing from her past.
Libbie is an accredited Narcissistic Abuse specialist, A Brain spotting Practitioner, a Holistic Therapist, Coach, Author and is a certified hypnotherapist. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings over the last 15 years with clients and patients alike, providing emotional and physical healing from the effects of abusive relationships, including anxiety depression, PTSD, and Trauma through mind-body healing therapies. she has received several accolades in her Holistic Therapy, and Eastern Healing modalities, and continues her professional development in working with Trauma, and the after-effects of Narcissistic abuse.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Libbie has spent many years trying to break down and discover what has caused her anxiety. She did research into why she felt the way she often did and what caused her responses to certain situations. She discovered that the traumatic event of her sister dying, when Libbie was just 3 years old was the start of this, as well as having to deal with the death of her sister it is when her parents started to abuse her too.
- The relationship with her mother was particularly bad, which only seemed to get worse the older Libbie got. She was frequently taken into care but would always be sent home.
- Libbie didn’t feel loved, looked after or needed. She was suffering at home and at school too. She became consumed by her own trauma and difficulties. It wasn’t until she got older and realised that she needed to look into her past to see what she needed deal with and uncover to then create healing and change for herself.
- As Libby started learning about trauma, narcissism and psychology she discovered that there were many narcissistic traits within her mother and that these probably stemmed from her mothers own trauma.
- So many people look outside of themselves to fix themselves. This is something Dawn calls ‘outsourcing your wellbeing’ but this is never a real or long-term fix and can actually create more problems than it solves.
- If we can see healing as a journey and not a destination, focusing on what we want our life to become we can begin to find peace and love within ourselves.
BEST MOMENTS
“When we call it our anxiety we own it”
“Unless we know our own psychology we can’t actually piece that together, understand it or step outside of our behaviour to see the cause of it”
“I still felt there was a part of me that was just dying to get out”
“Healing form such abuse is a journey, it’s certainly not a destination”

ABOUT THE GUEST

She has worked in a variety of clinical settings over the last 15 years with clients and patients alike, providing emotional and physical healing from the effects of abusive relationships, including anxiety depression, PTSD, and Trauma through mind-body healing therapies. she has received several accolades in her Holistic Therapy, and Eastern Healing modalities, and continues her professional development in working with Trauma, and the after-effects of Narcissistic abuse.
Libbie has a special interest in mental health, and Relationships including PTSD, Trauma, and anxiety disorders, having dealt with all three from childhood, and narcissistic abuse herself in several relationships. As an unconfident child, teen, and young adult She struggled with self-sabotage and self-harm, and never felt good enough. Through her own transformational journey, She became her own driving force, in discovering that mental health that is out of balance, and continuous stress and Trauma on the nervous system, affect not only emotional health but also the physiology of the body, presenting itself through illness and disease. Facing her own mortality twice, She became an advocate for teaching people how our awareness and ability to change our lives is often completely overlooked and avoided due to living in our own perceptions of ourselves. How we then create who we are, due to childhood adversities including bullying, trauma, abuse, etc. It's not until later in life that when we find the courage, and the ability to change those perceptions, and when we realise we can, we then see no limits to what we can achieve in our health, and our lives.
