  • The Ramble: Spoils even in North London, nervous Chelsea, and a cracker at Goodison

An exhilarating North London Derby at the Emirates headlined a great weekend of football and we take a fond look back over starring roles from Granit Xhaka and Harry Kane, the pros and cons of Chelsea’s wobbly start to the season and Everton and Wolves playing out a humdinger of a ding dong.

Segueing neatly on we also look at Swansea’s rout(ledge) of Leeds, a Sebastien Coates disaster-class and Eric Cantona’s latest role. This is the synopsis of the podcast. We love football.

  • The Blizzard: Brazil 0-1 France, 2006

For our latest episode of Greatest Games, we’re joined by football writer and broadcaster Tom Williams as we take a deeper look at the 2006 World Cup quarter-final between Brazil and France. This match, despite being awash with some of the greatest players in history, was completely dominated by the balletic and utterly irresistible Zinedine Zidane.

After two poor seasons with Real Madrid, many—Zidane included—felt his star was on the wane. So pervasive was this sentiment, that he announced his retirement ahead of this tournament. What followed however, against Spain in the Round of 16 and against Brazil, was a final glimpse of Zidane at his best in all his former glory. This Joga Bonito-inspired Brazil side, featuring some of the nation’s greatest attacking talent ever, could do nothing in response. Zidane left his mark on this game in broad, beautiful strokes and cemented himself as one of the greatest midfielders football has ever seen.

  • The Preview Show: The North London Derby looms, Sean Dyche’s other passion, and sad news for Bury

There can be nowhere to start other than with the terrible news that Bury have been expelled from the EFL. Our commiserations to any Bury fans. Let’s hope that this never happens again.

Away from that awful situation we do have a cracking weekend ahead, with an early North London Derby, Liverpool bringing their attacking verve to Burnley and Man United heading down to Southampton.

Elsewhere we have an Andros Townsend re-up, another theory about Sean Dyche’s unique timber and something about Pink Floyd.

  • On The Continent: Horrific scenes in Nice, new hope at Inter, and Benfica slip up

Ciao and willkommen to another lovely episode of On The Continent! We’re here to provide our usual service of scratching your various European football itches.

We begin with the sorry scenes in Nice, as homophobic banners and chanting halted their match with Marseille. We discuss the wider connotations involving the governing authorities’ attempts to curtail these various examples of abhorrent behaviour. Then, James discusses the differing fortunes of two Italian footballing giants as Romelu Lukaku and Inter look promising under Antonio Conte, and Roma move out from under Monchi’s disappointing shadow. Plus, we squeeze in some chat on Benfica’s surprising loss to Porto!

  • Jules & Andy: Combatting social media abuse, Wolves’ amazing year, and impressive young Brits

We start today’s episode of Jules & Andy with a look at some of the abhorrent racist abuse on social media that has been gaining publicity over the weekend. We discuss the possible ways to combat and reduce such abuse, and Jules discusses her own experience as a woman working in the game.

Elsewhere, we take a look at an impressive year for Wolves, as they stand on the brink of qualification for the Europa League group stage. With some of the league’s brightest talents playing at Molineux we try to gauge what success might look like for Wolves, as well as the joys of adventure that their fans are tantalisingly close to. There’s also time for a look at some of the young British stars who have hugely impressed in the opening weeks, from James Maddison’s bid for an England place to Jadon Sancho’s scintillating form in the Bundesliga.

  • The Ramble: Roy’s boys shock Man United, Arsenal fall short at Anfield, and Steve Bruce HITS BACK

A bad result for the now notoriously “not that good” Man United gets us underway as we look back at the weekend’s action, giving Marcus many opportunities to pronounce “Solskjaer” in that way that he does.

There’s way more than that though. We’ve got your Biblical Chelsea. We’ve got your Steve Bruce watching the cricket. We’ve got your Antoine Griezmann lobbing glitter about. We’ve got your Dean Gaffney and your Beppe Di Marco getting kicked out at Norwich. We’ve got your Fulham encroaching on the Thames. Get involved please.

  • The Blizzard: Blackpool 4-3 Bolton, 1953

For our latest episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard, we’re looking back at that thrilling 1953 FA Cup final contested by Blackpool and Bolton: ‘The Stanley Matthews Final’. Joining us is Seb Stafford-Bloor, a writer for Football365 and Four Four Two magazine, as well as a content editor of Tifo Football.

This final was a hugely significant moment in British football history. As it was the first final to be broadcast live on the BBC, the match was watched by a huge, unprecedented audience from all over the country. It also took place around the time that football was just beginning to be considered as the true ‘game of the people’ and still remains the only final where a hat-trick was scored. Seb, Jonathan and Marcus sit down and recount the rudimentary tactics and goalkeeping errors that led this match to be one of the most thrilling cup finals ever played.

  • The Preview Show: Arsenal head to Anfield, James Maddison looks sharp and Ian Holloway's got confused

We’re here to ease you into another lovely weekend of football with The Preview Show, sponsored by Betway!

After finding out it’ll take seven insipid years to get used to VAR, as well as Ian Holloway’s confused take on international diplomacy, we turn our attention to the weekend’s fixtures. Arsenal take on Liverpool in what should be another thigh-rubber as Dani Ceballos and his merry men will be hoping to get one over Klopp’s Clan. We also discuss West Ham’s trip to Watford—which will no doubt result in a very intriguing match, what with West Ham’s poor start and Watford’s terrible one.

We also squeeze in some chat on Sheffield vs Leicester and try to improve on our dismal record in Betway’s 4 To Score feature.

  • On The Continent: Maurizio Sarri's transfer troubles, Lyon start strong, and Franck flies to Florence

James Horncastle’s back in one of our continental hot seats and he’s packed some Serie A chat in his hand luggage! We start by talking about Juventus, as Sarri begins his reign in Turin. With the transfer window closing soon, their squad still looks a bit bloated— James discusses how they might be able to offload some of their fringe players as Sarri looks to streamline the team. We also discuss Franck Ribéry’s lovely move to Fiorentina and how they might get on under new coach Vincenzo Montella.

We then head to France as Andy’s faves Lyon have got off to a great start (against admittedly poor opposition). Plus, there’s talk on Zinedine Zidane’s difficult task at the helm of Real Madrid and Thierry Henry sticking his cultured boot in.
