Today I sit down with Brent Hogarth, a Sport and clinical psychologist and the head coach at flow research collective. Brent works with all kinds of athletes and peak performers and gets them in the headspace to be their very best. If you have no idea what the heck I’m talking when I mention flow state, that’s the acclaimed zone that we are seemingly always chasing. Brent explains it in more detail and more importantly, how we can have more of it in our lives!
Today I want to talk about something that often stands in the way of our peak performance, our nerves. You know what I’m talking about, those butterflies in your stomach that show up each time we get ready to perform. Nerves can make or break our performance, anxiety and excitement often get mixed up. Let's take five minutes to discuss how we handle that performance anxiety and achieve our best each time.
Today I had the chance to sit down with Brian Cain, Peak performance coach of UFC World Champions, NCAA National Champions, and 100s of other professional athletes. Brian helps the best of the best, perform that way and do so with more consistency. His strategies are some that I’ve implemented in my own life as I seek to improve and I think they will provide a lot of value to you as well.
Today I had the chance to sit down with Paul Tabe, current professional soccer player for Sure Sports FC. Paul and I went to high school together and I’ve had an opportunity to watch his work ethic turn him into the player and person he is today. His road to where he is now hasn’t been easy. We talk about the challenges he has faced, especially those of being a black soccer player and what that means in today’s society.
Today I had the chance to sit down with Joe Fauria aka Big Joe and talk about everything from his epic NFL Touchdown celebrations to transitioning to life post football. Check out what he found helped him make a complete 180 in his life when things weren’t looking great, something I think we could all use a little more of these days.
Today I want to open your eyes to the power that lies in self evaluation. Now more than ever with being away from our regular routines, we have less and less authority figures governing our day to day productivity. Companies have always been weary of their workers having the freedom to work from home because of the fear of lack of productivity. Now, maybe more than ever before, self evaluation is going to be huge in our abilities to stay on track and produce.
Today I had the chance to sit down with Wyatt Knight, former UVA Lacrosse National Champion who is now on a mission to spread his knowledge to positively impact those around his. Wyatt is the epitome of what this podcast is all about, he embodies the athletic mindset that he developed through his playing career; but he now takes it one step further and is helping those around him get 1% better everyday. A member of the 2:30 am wake up club, Wyatt crushes each day through his present moment focus and clarity on his WHY in life. Check out how he does it and his advice on how you too can do the same, even without waking up as early as him.
Today I had the chance to sit down with Chris Bocklet, current professional lacrosse player. Chris comes from a family deeply involved in the sport of lacrosse, one that’s no stranger to championships having 5 MLL championships, 3 NCAA National titles, and multiple all American honors just to name a few. Chris has contributed his fair share to those accolades and we dive into the importance of surrounding himself with a strong support system. He learned to use the success of his two older brothers and older teammates to push himself to his full potential on the field and in sharing his story, you too can learn to do the same, no matter what it is you’re currently competing in.
Today I keep things short and sweet as we dive into the topic of deliberate practice. How you spend your time doing your tasks goes a long way, this episode helps show you the value of practicing with intent.
Today I had the chance to sit down with US National Team Member Zane Grothe. Zane has had quite the career and is the former American record holder for both the 500 Free and 1650 Free. After talking to him, there’s no question his mindset and the culture he’s been immersed in have played pivotal roles in these recording breaking swims. Given my own background in distance swimming, it was great to find commonalities that make up the unique kind of crazy that is a distance swimmer's mindset!
