Charles Lee, second in command of the Continental Army, brings a reinforcement army to Charleston, SC. He arrives arrives on June 4, 1776. Lee expects the arrival of a British fleet under the command of General Clinton and Cornwallis to attack the colony. The first British ships arrive days later.
