Clinical nutritionist and Aussie Craig Burton shares his knowledge on how to recognize if you're pre-diabetic and how to reverse it before it goes into full blown diabetes.
Craig has over 20 years experience as a health coach, and has achieved many qualifications in nutrition, as well as in health and fitness along with mental and lifestyle coaching. He attained a B.A. in Applied Science (Sports Science and Psychology) from Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia along with his nutritional degree from Ohio State University in the United States.
I am so excited to introduce you to Craig, because we have been working together ever since I held my first health retreat in Phuket, Thailand. I have brought him some really tough client cases where he has been able to see what even their doctors at home cannot see to transform their health and ultimately their lives. And I am sure he is going to tell you something today that you may have never heard before.
Don't forget to subscribe to the Hack My Age podcast for updates on the latest episodes. I highly encourage you to also leave a review so others can find this great content too.

I have been watching him evolve and create unbelievable things that actually matter to the planet since I was in my 20s.
It's an honor to have Dr. David Edwards on the Hack My Age podcast…25 years later!
David Edwards is a Harvard researcher who, I remember around the 90s was researching and designing inhalable medicines and vaccines that could be delivered to the lungs instead of taking a pill or shot. It sounded so sci-fi to me at the time. But he did it.
As long as I have known him he has always been working on new ways of improving human health and wellbeing through the air we breathe as well as so many other modalities.
In the late 90s he founded and eventually sold a startup called Advanced Inhalation Research (AIR), So, you can see he has been involved in the respiratory system and treating infectious diseases through the airways for quite a long time.
For 18 years, David was the Professor of the Practice of Bioengineering at Harvard University in the School of Engineering & Applied Sciences and later transitioned to Associate to lead the startup of FEND and support the startup of the nonprofit Next Breath.
in 2004, he was studying how to protect people from one of the most horrible, airborne biological weapons of our time: anthrax.
He is now one of the world's leading respiratory health scientists and today is on a mission to help all of us breathe and move about safely during this pandemic with what TIME magazine has called "The best invention of 2020", FEND, and we talk about this really cool gadget today.
David's been recognized by many international organizations and has received an incredible number of honors and awards. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering in the US and in France, he's also a member of the National Institute of Inventors, and a Chevalier of the Arts & Letters by the French Ministry of Culture.
He loves writing. He gets up super early while we are all sleeping to write. It's a real passion of his. You can check out his recent book Creating Things That Matter, which won a 2018 Nautilus Book of the Year Award.
I can go on and on about David, he's done so many brilliant things and he is a true inventor creating a ton of other cool stuff, which we won't get into, because my focus today is his latest invention, FEND and airway hygiene.

I first met Kim Vopni because members of the Biohacking Women 50+ club on Clubhouse were telling me to reach out to her so we can talk about vagina issues related to our age group like sneeze pees and vaginal dryness. Yeah, we talk about everything in that club. I was blown away by what she told us and love that she does not accept "light bladder leakage" as just part of being a woman. Thank you!
Kim is a very qualified pelvic floor specialist and fitness professional. She also has a degree in Psychology and a postgraduate certificate in Health and Fitness.
She writes books and regularly speaks publicly to campaign for women's health. She just wrote a book earlier this year called Your Pelvic Floor.
Kim is the founder of Pelvienne Wellness Inc – this is a company that gives pelvic health programs, products and coaching for women in pregnancy, motherhood and, yes, menopause. She also created a really cool recovery and birth prep system for pregnant women called the Ab System.
And if you're a health professional out there, or, want to be one, Kim also certifies people to know how to specifically work with women who have core and pelvic floor challenges through a couple of certification courses she offers. The Core Confidence Specialist and the Pre/Postnatal Fitness Specialist.

Dr. Stacy Sims is a true pioneer in the field of exercise physiology and nutrition, because she has been unraveling some horrific truths about science and research and how it relates to women. Things like showing how most studies are done on men, because women are "too complicated" with their hormones and cycles, and how many products, drugs and treatments are designed by men for men based on this research.
As a researcher, innovator and entrepreneur in human performance, Dr. Sims is truly a beacon of light for all women out there to understand our sex differences in training, nutrition and environmental conditions. She has combined her knowledge and experience in books like ROAR and a new one coming out called Next Level: Your Guide to Kicking Ass, Feeling Great, and Crushing Goals Through Menopause and Beyond.
She has also launched some kick ass online programs that women of all ages rave about, but the one we are going to talk about today is MENOPAUSE FOR ATHLETES. I'm now going to give you my honest opinion. This program blew my mind. It is THE best one I have ever gone through. I am already 51 and I have gone through A LOT of them. And I know I am not the only one out there with this opinion.
Dr. Sims is highly qualified to talk about topics like menopause, hormones, food and training. Back in 2007, she was the exercise physiologist and nutrition scientist at Stanford University where she specialized in sex differences for recovery and performance. And if you do a Google Search, you will find a ton of studies that Dr. Sims has published. She's really dedicated her life to challenging the existing dogma for women in exercise, nutrition and health and has created an incredible community of feisty menopausal women along the way.
She now lives in New Zealand with her family and continues to do the amazing work work she does for all of us from there.

--- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hackmyage/supportToday's guest is back for a second time on the show and she is one of my favorite guests. She is a regenerative and anti-aging doctor who has a whole list of qualifications and she's one of the most well-trained doctors on hormones. She's incredibly intelligent and in this episode helps us understand our own hormones and clear the confusion on hormone replacement therapy.
I'm talking about the one and only Dr. Elizabeth Yurth who has helped hundreds of women just like us solve joint pain, menopause symptoms like bloating, moodiness and fatigue and just get back to our old balanced and energetic selves.
Dr. Yurth is trained in Sports & Spine Orthopedics, Functional & Regenerative Medicine, and even Cellular Medicine.
After a long career in orthopedics, Dr. Yurth decided it was time to move her practice forward to the next level and in 2006 co-founded The Boulder Longevity Institute. There they specialize in advanced, research-based longevity medicine that has treatments like Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (yes, please), Regenerative Orthopedic Procedures (yes, please), Regenerative Peptide Therapy (oh yes, please), and Next Generation Regenerative services. It sounds like a sci-fi movie.
What makes Dr. Yurth someone we should be listening to? She is double board-certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation AND Anti-Aging/Regenerative Medicine. And although she doesn't look like it, she has a long history as a specialist in Sports, Spine, and Regenerative Medicine that includes a Stanford-affiliated Fellowship in Sports and Spine Medicine, and a dual-Fellowship in Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine (FAARM) AND Anti-Aging, Regenerative and Functional Medicine (FAARFM) through the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M).
Dr. Yurth has been selected as one of the 25 mastermind physician fellows in SSRP (Seeds Scientific Research and Performance). This means it allows her to stay abreast and teach others in this growing field of cellular medicine.
The cool thing for athletic older people, like me, is that she's also an active athlete herself. So she totally gets us!
Dr. Yurth lives and breathes active human beings who want to keep moving in their 80s and 90s….heck even 100s…because she lives in the health mecca Boulder, Colorado.

Do supplements really work or are they just snake oil? Melanie covers all the basics of supplementation Do's and Don'ts, who needs them, who doesn't, how to measure their efficacy and how to choose a brand that is safe and effective.
Melanie is a registered dietitian and completed her masters of Nutrition, Healthspan and Longevity at USC. (very cool masters!)
I found Melanie through the Fasting Mimicking Diet newsletter. I saw she studied (as have I) at the prestigious research based University of Southern California with Dr. Valter Longo who created the Fasting Mimicking Diet and one of TIME's 50 most influential people in healthcare. She popped up in a university newsletter, I investigated further, I loved her website and the holistic approach she takes to nutrition. She specializes in gut health and is based in Los Angeles.

--- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hackmyage/supportToday's guest is Dr. Dale Bredesen - an expert in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease. He wrote a groundbreaking book and New York Times bestseller that you probably have already heard of : The End of Alzheimer's (2017) and then several years later wrote a follow up book: The End of Alzheimer's Program (2020). And just several weeks ago he published a new book called "The First Survivors of Alzheimer's: How Patients Recovered Life and Hope in Their Own Words". This is a great book to hear first hand real stories of people who have reversed their Alzheimer's diagnosis.
Dr. Bredesen is a professor at UCLA, but he has also taught at UC San Francisco and the University of California San Diego. He directed the Program on Aging at the Burnham Institute before coming to the Buck Institute for Research on Aging in 1998 as its founding president and CEO.
Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative condition where we have a progressive decline in cognitive function, like thinking and reasoning. People with Alzheimer's are eventually unable to do any activities of daily living, simple things like bathing, driving and dressing. It's the most common form of dementia in people over the age of 65; about one in 10 people over 65 has Alzheimer's disease, but if you're a woman, your risk is 1 in 5. Nearly half of all people over age 85 are affected by Alzheimer's. That's 50%! What's crazy is that almost two-thirds of Americans with Alzheimer's are women. So we explore why this is with Dr. Bredesen today and what we can do to lower our risk.
Most doctors and experts in this field say there is no cure for Alzheimer's. But Dr. Bredesen blatantly says that Alzheimer's is absolutely 100% reversible and preventable. He is going against the grain with his research, which he has been working on for decades. He's been consulting patients and getting results with his ReCODE protocol, while traditional treatments haven't.

--- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hackmyage/supportDr. Michael Platt clears the confusion on bioidentical hormones and what this can mean for women going into menopause. We also talk about adrenaline dominance. You may have heard of estrogen dominance, but this is very different.
I first heard Dr. Platt on Dave Asprey's podcast in 2019 and I was very intrigued by what he said about progesterone. I had a client dealing with fibromyalgia, so I was eager to share the information on how progesterone may help. And we will talk about this too.
Dr. Platt is board-certified in internal medicine and has been practicing since 1972! This was back in the day when doctors spent an hour one-on-one with their clients. He's watched the whole medical system evolve over the last 5 decades. He even used to work in elder care medicine as a director of 30 nursing homes in Los Angeles, which made him appreciate the importance of preventative medicine.
He is really well known in the health and wellness circles around the world for his research on progesterone, adrenaline dominance and bio-identical hormones. Some of us call them human identical hormones too. He wrote 3 award winning books about it all
The Miracle of Bio-Identical hormones
Adrenaline Dominance – A Revolutionary Approach to Wellness
The Platt Protocol for Hormone Balancing
Dr. Platt is now the director of the Platt Wellness Center in Rancho Mirage, California (or is it in Palm Desert?). Over the last 40 years in his practice, Dr. Platt has been helping his patients overcome conditions that many doctors say are impossible to cure….like bi-polar disorder, fibromyalgia and ADHD. He has helped tens of thousands of people with their health issues and live full, happy lives.
Now you may be wondering why this man knows so much about women's health. Well, he delved into the world of hormones after his own mother died prematurely of breast cancer at only 61. If he only knew then what he knows now... I also lost my mother prematurely to breast cancer when she was only 57, so this is a topic that is of huge personal interest…particularly as I get closer to menopause.
