The Psychology Behind Mob Mentality
When you act as an individual, you bare soul responsibility for your actions.
When you act as a group, you share responsibility, and the blame doesn’t fall squarely on your shoulders.
Therefore, when you think of yourself as an individual, you’re more likely to consider the consequences of your actions.
And when you think of yourself as part of a group, you abdicate responsibility for your decision making to the group.
People who see themselves as an individual tend to give more thought to an action before taking it.
People who see themselves as part of a group tend to just go along with whatever the group is doing.
Individuals have to be persuaded, one by one, with logical or emotionally convincing arguments.
Groups just need a charismatic leader to get behind and blindly follow.
The number one rule for making people easier to manipulate?
Get them to identify as part of a group, rather than as an individual.
When someone keeps beating you over the head with your group identity, that’s a pretty good indication they’re trying to manipulate you.

They should come from people your market can identify with or aspire to be like.
Customer reviews and social media reviews.
Influencer marketing is another option.
In today's environment, both are better than celebrity endorsements.
If you can control the direction of the mob, either by leading it, or by framing it, you can control the direction of people who defer to the mob.
