Have Corporations Hacked Our Brains?

Listen Later

Have you ever felt like you were addicted to a product? Food, beverage, device, or otherwise, it seems everyone has been there. But what is it about certain products that keeps you coming back for more and more…and more?

In this episode, Robert H. Lustig, M.D., MSL, breaks down the science behind addiction and how businesses are using it to take over their customers' brains. The author of the acclaimed Fat Chance: Beating the Odds Against Sugar, Processed Foods, Obesity and Disease (Avery, 2012), Robert is professor of pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology and a member of the Institute for Health Policy Studies at University of California, San Francisco.

Today, he shares insights from his new book, The Hacking of the American Mind: The Science Behind the Corporate Takeover of Our Bodies and Brains. Listen in to hear how corporations get customers to confuse pleasure and happiness in order to keep them hooked.
