    It was absolutely the case of ‘get the job done and move on’ from the Hawks on Saturday afternoon at the MCG. Three lacklustre quarters ended with a bang in the final, as the Hawks skipped away to a 35-point win against the Demons.

    Danny and Weissy were on hand (a little later than normal) with the reaction pod for this one and the boys chatted through ALOT, so sit back and enjoy.

    🗣️ Key talking points:

    * 7-2 start to the season, why all the concern?

    * The depth being built in this playing list and the performances of some of the ‘lesser lights;

    * A shaky start and a barnstorming finish;

    * Some individual player focus;

    * The milestone man Josh Ward;

    * The skipper is back;

    * The Hawks entering a different phase of the journey to a Premiership;

    * Looking ahead to the Suns. It’s time to make a statement;

    * Plenty more…

    The Hawks head to Darwin today and begin preparations for a big month of football, but if you haven’t listened already, make sure to listen to our post game catch up with Josh Ward and read the recap article, both of which will be in your Substack feed.

    Back for another week to talk about the Week that Was - and there has been PLENTY of brown and gold news doing the round ahead of our 100 year anniversary celebrations. So Ash, Mick, Nat and Andrew came together to chew the fat together with a special guest in this feel-good mid-week pod.

  • Instant Reaction Pod: Hawks vs Eagles

    Subscribe to Hawks Insiders for the most in-depth and wide ranging Hawthorn cover there is. From exclusive interviews, analysis, match recaps, and podcasts, the Insiders have you covered.

    It wasn’t pretty, but the four points are coming home with the Hawks after their comfortable 50 point win against a pretty hopeless Eagles side under the roof at Marvel Stadium on Sunday evening.

    Danny and Daz caught up to go through the good and the bad to come from the hit out, as the Hawks move to 5-2 for the season after seven rounds.

    🗣️ Key talking points:

    * The execution being off and what may have caused it;

    * Beating an Eagles outfit that might have been a better match up for Box Hill than Hawthorn;

    * Kicking for goal at one end of Marvel compared to the other;

    * The young midfielders who stepped up with Will Day and Conor Nash missing;

    * Lord Meek;

    * Hawthorn’s key forwards - Mabior Chol and Jack Gunston and their impressive past couple of weeks;

    * The downer from the game - concussion injuries to Jack Scrimshaw and Karl Amon;

    * The opportunity that knocks for a quick recall for Fin Maginness and Changkouth Jiath after their impressive performances at Box Hill;

    * And plenty more…

    Ash, Mick and Brad return for this weeks’ *The Week That Was Pod* — a few days removed from the Geelong game and ready to go beyond the raw emotion and into the real talking points.

    This week’s episode tackles:

    * Reflections on the Geelong performance — was it truly a poor showing or just a tough day at the office?

    * Players whose form is raising eyebrows;

    * Box Hill’s resounding win and what it means for selection pressure;

    * The final word on the Conor Nash suspension;

    * A rare bit of injury list optimism;

    * Brad’s brand-new podcast venture;

    * Some early whispers around the 100th birthday game;

    * Why heading back to Marvel might actually be a good thing;

    * And whether the Eagles clash will be a percentage booster or a potential banana peel;

    As always, we wrap up with your questions, comments and sharp-eyed observations.

    Well, it wasn’t the way we wanted it to end, but pride was certainly restored after the Port shellacking last week.

    In a real arm wrestle between two quality sides, Hawthorn went down by just seven points to our arch rivals Geelong in front of a massive crowd of 88,746 at the ‘G. It was a tense one from start to finish — and the boys had plenty to say about it.

    🗣️ Key talking points:

    * Jack Scrimshaw and Connor MacDonald were strong inclusions, but the decision to start Luke Breust and CJ as sub was baffling.

    * The first few minutes brought Port flashbacks, but Hawthorn showed much better intent and defensive resilience to stay in the game.

    * Disposal efficiency stats flattered the Hawks — Geelong’s ability to punish mistakes and defend with structure made the difference.

    * Is DE an accurate metric anyway?

    * Jai Newcombe was enormous again: 28 disposals, 9 tackles, countless one-percenters — he’s officially in the A-grade midfielder conversation.

    * Lloyd Meek had a proper Meek Monday performance with 19 touches and 7 clearances — his physicality around stoppage gave Hawthorn a real edge.

    * Karl Amon was a standout with 802 metres gained and clever distribution off half-back — he’s quietly piecing together a very consistent season.

    * Mabior Chol responded to critics with a three-goal, high-pressure performance — doing everything asked of him in a role that doesn’t perfectly suit his strengths.

    * James Sicily had a game to forget, capped off by a crucial out-on-the-full late — but calls for him to be dropped are absurd.

    * With Nash likely to cop a suspension, the stage is set for Henry Hustwaite — but if he isn’t picked, what does his future look like at the Hawks?
