The Hawks crashed back down to earth due to an insipid first half performance against a Port Adelaide side that took every chance afforded them.
Fresh off being frustrated at the Pink Hill Hotel throughout the match, Danny Prins and Nat Martin discussed everything that went wrong in the first half, and the light at the end of the tunnel in the second.
🗣️ Key talking points:
* Training cones vs Port Adelaide for 45 mins;
* Hunger, intensity, effort - all missing in the first half;
* The second half that teased, a massive what if'';
* The positives including Jai Newcombe, Jack Gunston, Lloyd Meek;
* James Sicily forward and Dylan Moore in the middle - more please;
* Fin Maginness, Blake Hardwick, Mabior Chol and friends - struggle town;
* Plenty more emotion and reason…

Another week has come and gone, filled with Hawthorn news, speculation and adoration from the wider football world.
Life is good.
Another week of zero tech glitches - X seems to be a thing of the past.

* The importance of independent Hawthorn media when we are good;
* The GWS Giants win - what we liked, and how we feel;
* Oscar Allen;
* Harley Reid versus Zak Butters;
* Box Hill and our fringe players;
* Questions from around our social traps;
* And much more.

A new week at Hawks Insiders and we came good on writing the wrongs from last week, making sure that we had no issues on X for the entire evening.
Okay - that was because there was no X Safe Space - and perhaps a bit of a look into our future where we potentially change the format of our Wednesday night / Thursday morning offering.
Watch this ‘Space’ - pardon the pun.
So for now you can sit back and listen to the dulcet tones of Andrew Weiss and Nat Martin as they unpacked a host of brown and gold news from the week, including:.
* A slightly different look at the Blues game and what it means to be 3-0;
* Harry Morrison and Finn Maginness love - and a look at our depth;
* Injuries and how we are looking to replace Connor Macdonald;
* A look ahead to the Giants game and questions from our followers;
* How Harry Kane and Dylan Moore have more in comment than you think;
* Buddy back in town;
* And much more.

Under the lights, under the pump, and yet again, the Hawks delivered when it mattered — grinding out a 20-point win against a backs-to-the-wall Carlton t the ‘G. Final score: Hawthorn 12.8 (80) defeated Carlton 8.12 (60).
The morning after the game, Prinsy and Daz had a rogue, “feelings not facts” chat. It was full of the sort of optimism that comes with a side that just might be building something pretty special.
🗣️ Key talking points:
* Weathering the early storm and absorbing the pressure;
* Efficiency wins games;
* Jai’s evolving into one of the comp’s best mids;
* Josh Battle — welcome to the Hawthorn Footy Club;
* Marbs magic;
* Ward and MacKenzie stepping up;
* CJ bringing the deep house vibes;
* Gunston turning back the clock;
* Gini’s selflessness;
* Depth proving vital;
* How do you even begin to fill a Croc-sized hole?

First of all, a massive apology to all of our Insiders community for the avalanche of technical issues that plagued our attempted Spaces live catchup on Wednesday night.
But never fear — we quickly pivoted into an Emergency Podcast with special guest Ed Sill, outgoing President of the Box Hill Hawks, to preview the upcoming VFL season.
Ash, Danny, Mora, Brad and Mick chatted about a range of topics including:
* Our quick review of the game against the Bombers;
* The injury to Jack Scrimshaw the the importance of him in our backline;
* A proper pre-match preview of the Thursday night clash against the Blues;
* A special appearance from and long form segment with our great friend Ed Sill;

The Hawks first win over Essendon since 2021 was worth the wait. The mosquito fleet was in full flight, delivering a high-pressure, high-efficiency performance that saw us keep the Bombers at arm’s length all night in a 26-point win at the ‘G.
With the small forwards buzzing, the back six standing firm, and Karl Amon’s elite ball use on show, it was another step forward for Sam Mitchell’s high flying side.
The day after a big night at the ‘G, Darren Levin and Nat Martin unpack it all in our instant reaction pod.
🗣️ Key talking points:
* Our clinical efficiency inside 50: Despite 10 fewer entries, we took 16 marks inside 50 to Essendon’s six, making every chance count.
* The back six is locking in: Just their second game together, but TB and JB absorbed pressure and stood up in key moments. The Bombers managed just six marks from 56 inside-50s — a major tick for our defensive structure.
* Amon’s elite delivery: His kick to Watson in the first quarter was special, but he did it all night. We’re only two games in, but he’s in All-Australian form.
* Moore is the momentum killer: Three goals, 23 disposals, and a knack for stopping opposition runs exactly when needed.
* Nick Watson does it all: Three first-half goals were big, but it was his chase-downs, smothers, and defensive acts that the HI team buzzing.
* Flexibility up forward: Dimma Hardwick’s switch forward paid off, while Weddle also showed promise as a marking target late in the game.
* Depth is a weapon: The Hawks aren’t relying on just the top-end talent — cameos from Ward, McKenzie, Finn, & Weddle all helped keep the game on our terms.
* Six-day turnaround to Carlton: The Blues were embarrassed by Richmond —they’ll come out fired up, but can they handle our speed and versatility?
* The Bombers rivalry: How much do we hate Essendon, and where does this rank among the Hawthorn rivalries?
Keep your eyes peeled for our recap article, dropping later this weekend 👀
