The HI team were in full voice post the loss to Port Adelaide, with Danny, Andrew and Darren back behind the mic to help you unpack the match and highlight the positives of the Hawks recent trip to South Australia.

In what could be the highest gap between lowest and highest ratings ever seen, the Insiders ensured that credit was given where it was due, but that no punches were pulled either. Some of the highlights were:

To say the cards were stacked against the Hawks in the 2001 semi-final against Port Adelaide would be an almighty understatement.

Peter Schwab’s side had the unenviable task of taking on the Power at their Football Park fortress in front of the infamously intimidating local crowd.

Port Adelaide had finished third and were one of the in-form sides of the competitions, having posted six consecutive wins to round out the home and away season.

There was a global scale to the story of the game too, with the world still left in shock in the aftermath of 9-11 which had happened just four days earlier.

It's been over 50 years since this incredible game.

The game that made David Parkin a premiership captain, John Kennedy a dual premiership coach, and the likes of Leigh Matthews, Peter Hudson, Don Scott and Peter Crimmins premiership players. What a star studded line up it was.

And of course who could forget Hawks' Team of the Century Full back - and one of the best to ever do it - Kelvin Moore.

The superstar joined the Golden Years team to discuss the iconic 1971 premiership, and the never-before-heard stories that came with it.

Plenty to discuss on this week’s Safe Space and while we were a few soldiers down for the night, Ash and Andrew were joined by our wonderful online community with plenty to add.

Each week we will bring you another episode of the magnificent Golden Years series that we recorded in collaboration with the Hawthorn Football Club. Each episode was special, covering many of the significant moments from our past with heroes of years gone by.

This episode of the Golden Years rewinds us back to 1991 and one of the greatest backs-to-the-wall wins in the club's history.

The Hawks took on West Coast, the season's minor premiers after losing just three games, and their clash was set at Subiaco Oval, a fortress for the Eagles. 

It was a historic game in many ways, namely that it was the first VFL/AFL finals game to ever be played outside of Victoria. 

Hear from one of the dominant players on the day - current Club President Andy Gowers, as we reminisce back to when we beat West Coast in the Qualifying Final in the west.

It was the Thursday Safe Space that many of our listeners needed.

Yes we covered the loss against the Demons and yes we looked ahead to the game against the Eagles on Sunday.

But most people came to talk about the news of the day - Clarko and his immediate leave of absence from coaching the Kangaroos.

We had quite a few people hit the request to speak button and have their say, giving us a good window into the spectrum of emotions that people are feeling regarding the current state of play.

It was group therapy - and won’t be the last time we lean on each other to digest the news of the day / week.
