Hosts Ashley, Danny and Andrew sucked in the big ones and got together to give every Hawk player who graced the MCG on Easter Monday a game rating.
While almost every player flew through the first half of the game, it was the second half that showed where some individual deficiencies lie.
And with those deficiencies well and truly on display, we only managed to dish out a few pass marks from our list of 23 players.
Did we get it right? Too harsh? Not harsh enough?

It was the Easter Sunday that delivered for Hawthorn fans, and following the breaking news of the morning, Ashley Browne, Darren Levin and Danny Prins chatted all things Will Day and his shiny new 4-year deal, discussed the funding promised by the Victorian Government for the Kennedy Community Centre, and previewed the huge Easter Monday clash.
The team also discussed:
* What the future looks like beyond Day’s new contract;
* Day’s ceiling as a player and the midfield group that Hawthorn are developing;
* The benefits of drafting players with connections to the Football Club;
* Dylan Moore’s local coffee shop in Highett;

Another week and another Safe Space - but this episode had a different flavour to it.
With most of our panel subbing out due to Passover, we called in for reinforcements to look at all that has been happening in the world of brown and gold.
So thanks Danny Prins hosting (@daniel_prins), Nat Martin (@NatMartin30) and Andrew Johnston (@ARJ7X) it was a wonderful chat with the Hawk community as we discussed:
* The win against North - the Good and the Bad;
* A look ahead to Easter Monday and the Harley Reid Cup versus Geelong;
* A crop of contract extensions;
* Injury news including the Mitch Lewis setback;
* The emergence and contract situation of Will Day;
* The lack of emergence and contract situation of DGB;
* And plenty more.

Our first win for season 2023 has arrived, and hosts Ashley, Danny and Brad were more than happy to go through the list and discuss who caught the eye in Tasmania on Saturday.
There was a lot of discussion both pre and post match that this was just another game of footy for the players and that they would not be buying into all the outside noise created on the Sammy v Clarko front.
But do you believe that? Our boys played with pride and passion, and were clearly motivated to get the win at UTAS Stadium - and that’s just what they did.
Find out which players performed above expectations - and which players still let our Insiders down.

Now that we have settled into Wednesday Safe Spaces for the time being, we were joined by plenty of supporters wanting to have their say.
From comments through the Substack, to people joining us that were at the SCG, to random questions and thoughts on individual players on the list, it was a great group therapy session.
In this week’s Safe Space we discussed:
* The game itself against the Swans - the Good and the Bad;
* The realisation of what the first two rounds of results actually means;
* Our playing list - who is on thin ice and who deserves another chance;
* Brad’s Selection Dissection for round three;
* Plenty of other food for thought from our Insiders community.

In our second player ratings pod of season 2023, hosts Danny, Darren and Andrew had plenty to say in the wake of the massacre that unfolded at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
There may have been even fewer pass marks awarded this week than were given that after round one - who did the Insiders let off the hook this week? Who did they refuse to even rate? And which player divided our hosts opinions the most?
Find out which players we have plenty of time for, and who we are ready to send back to the magoos.

Friend of the Hawks Insiders and Box Hill Hawks President Ed Sill joins Darren Levin and Danny Prins to discuss all things Box Hill Hawks and Hawthorn Football Clubs’, including previewing the 2023 VFL season and the clubs expectations.
Ed spoke in depth about:
* Hawthorn’s alignment with Box Hill and how it has become the ‘gold standard’ when it comes to AFL/VFL club relationships;
* The ability for players and staff to ‘transfer’ from Box Hill to Hawthorn and why being able to develop people is so important to the fabric of what makes Box Hill what it is;
* The fab five; Ned Reeves, Jai Newcombe, Lachie Bramble, James Blanck and Fergus Greene;
* The AFL level ability of the two Cal’s; Cal Porter and Cal Brown;
* Which Box Hill players might surprise in 2023;
* An insight into the Hawthorn youngsters currently developing at Box Hill, and who can take the next step quickly.

In our first Hawks Insiders Safe Space of the season proper there was PLENTY to unpack, and we had plenty of contributions from listeners just wanting to have their say.
What started off reflecting on the horror of the MCG on Sunday against the Bombers turned into a therapeutic discussion where calmness and serenity prevailed.
In this week’s Wednesday Safe Space we discussed:
* The debacle against the Bombers and what went right;
* The debacle against the Bombers and what went wrong;
* Brad’s selections to ponder ahead of Thursday’s team reveal;
* The game ahead against the Swans;
* Chad, our ruck division, Will Day, Cam Mackenzie, the forward line, Box Hill and more.
With Thursday night footy continuing for the next four weeks we will be making the short-term switch to Wednesdays!

Subscribe to Hawks Insiders for match recaps, exclusive pods, player ratings, and all the news through Hawthorn-tinted glasses.
In our first match recap of season 2023, hosts Ash, Darren and Andrew were in a disheartened but chatty mood as they reflected on the opening round loss to the Bombers at the MCG.
How many players were given pass marks? How did our club debutants fare? Which senior players were found wanting? And which of the kids excited our Insiders on the big stage?
We answer these questions and many more of the ticklers that came through on social media after the game, in an hour plus of reflective discussion.

Our final pre-season Space was as challenging as last year’s trade period, as we dealt with Elon and the Twitter gremlins that were out in force.
But we managed to get through it all and covered a fair bit in the lead-up to our opening game against the Bombers.
In this week’s Wednesday Safe Space we discussed:
* The opening round against the Bombers and gave our predictions;
* Brad’s predicted 23 for the game;
* Sliding Doors - and NOT the Gwyneth version;
* 1983 revisited;
* Peter Crimmins Medal predictions;
* The racism review;
* And much more.
With Thursday night footy back for the next five weeks we will be making the short-term switch to Wednesdays!
