Welcome to “Healing From Within.” I am your host Sheryl Glick Reiki Master Energy Teacher medium and author of The Living Spirit Answers for Healing and Infinite Love stories that shares a metaphysical approach to understanding spiritual communication, healing energies, miracles and intuition for well being progress health prosperity and happiness and is delighted to welcome Fiona Heckels the co-author with Karen Lawton of The Sensory Herbal Handbook to Connect with the Medicinal Power of Your Local Plants

As listeners of Healing From Within are well aware Sheryl and her guests share intimate stories and insights into the world of metaphysical concepts, healing, and transcendence, so we may begin to understand our true nature as spiritual energies having a physical life experience who are learning to balance both physical and spiritual worlds. For in knowing more of who we are, we are able to transform ourselves reach a higher consciousness and explore ways for the evolution of humanity and the world.

In today’s episode of “Healing From Within” both of The Seed Sistas who met on a Phytotherapy Herbalism group of study formed the social enterprise Sensory Solutions Herbal Evolution with the intention of cultivating change facilitating grassroots growing projects such as community medicine gardens. They share their love of plant medicine as they believe that through community cohesion and reconnection to the earth positive change will ensue.

The Seed Sistas friendship and professional bond began when Karen and Fiona recognized the immense love of the natural world they shared when studying together for a Bachelor of Science degree in herbal medicine. Immersed in nature from childhood they both developed a deep love of this beautiful green planet. Their questioning natures and spirit led to developing their own system of medicine and resisting the status quo. They learned to trust their intuition and to go against the grain or simply question societal programming that often failed to appreciate the natural healing ways of the past or alternative medicine which is actually holistic practices from before Western allopathic medicine techniques began.

Sheryl says she is much in alignment to working with nature and natural self-healing techniques since being guided to work with energy medicine or Reiki and as an empath able to often feel the emotional and physical pain or needs of people and receiving messages from Spirit through vision thoughts smells and tastes to help people validate their own life needs and journey and to help them reach for their spiritual gifts as well she knows there are so many realities and dimensions of life past the five senses.

As medically trained herbalists Fiona tells us something of the force of healing that can be achieved by exploring all that the plants have to share. As a collective of eco- pro-activists with a mission to reconnect us all to the often overlooked power of plant medicine she and others are trying to do this through creating community medicine gardens inspiring others to do the same.

We also know the five elements water fire air earth and spirit and the ever changing seasons interact with the human body and her book offers charts and a clear view of how we might use this information for natural healing. Herbalists approach blends science, medicine creativity, ritual, magic into practical easy to use tools that guide us to develop a relationship with plants.

Sensory Herbalism is based on the western herbal medicine tradition, drawing on tools and energetic language that have traditionally been used to connect with and understand plants and people. Western Herbal Medicine is a holistic system focused on returning a person’s health back to a state of homeostasis or balance. It has become a practice informed by rigorous medical training but sometimes with little connection to the plants themselves.

In Sensory Herbalism the focus is on getting to know plants intimately using our senses and intuition as well as the analytical brain

It is clear that plant habitats and diversity are under attack. Areas that can be harvested for wild herbs and plants have reduced in number since the introduction of modern farming practices such as the use of pesticides. Sensory Herbalism aims to encourage the rewilding of green spaces, to protect plants and to pass on knowledge that will reignite people’s interest in these most valuable beautiful and medicinally rich beings.

Working with plants is an act of political activism, a statement of self-empowerment and belief in protecting nature. The more we understand about herbs, the more we want to create the environments in which they can grow and flourish.

In Sensory Herbalism there is a focus on how we as humans can restore our own health by interacting with the plants themselves through energetic doses and through the growing and harvesting of them.

Sensory Herbalism also has a strong focus on creativity placing great emphasis on connection to nature or spirit through story telling drawing and poetry. It asks you to draw on the power of intention as you grow craft and take herbal medicines.

Sensory Herbalism is also about understanding the human body and how the elemental forces wind fire earth water and spirit –pervade all off life and are expressed in varying degrees in plants, in the seasons and in people as holistic organisms.

The Key tools of Sensory herbalism are:

    1. Observation through the five senses The more familiar you become with the way a plant looks smells or feels the more you begin to notice similarities with other herbs. Sight smell and taste give you an idea of the compounds within a plant. Great chart p53 on different plants.
    2. Intuition People often stop in their tracks to wonder about certain plants or a tree they pass as our primordial instinct may be telling us this plant needs to be in our lives. With intuitive knowledge there is no right or wrong way. It is about connecting to what you sense when you focus inside yourself. What pictures or words come to you? Tapping into the spirit of the plant and going on a journey of exploration can take many forms
    3. Interpretation What does it all mean and how can it be applied for healing. You might research what others have to say about the plant and see if there is validation for your own observations.

Some of the thoughts you might have are

    1. stem feels dry
    2. smells very strong
    3. smells uplifting and energetic
    4. clears my head
    5. tastes supper strong
    6. tastes perfumed oily slightly butter and is coating my teeth
    7. makes breathing deeper and fuller
    8. upward moving energy
    9. feeling my heart and movement of my body
    10. reminds me of a funeral when I wore a sprig rosemary.
    11. feels protective and lucky
    12. Characterization (personalizing the plants a very creative aspect encompassing stories rituals and folklore. We can recognize the qualities or personality of each herb. By personifying the plants it is easier to recognize and remember aspects of the herb more clearly.
    13. Plant Dream creation (weaving all the above findings into the messages of the plants for you/Plant dreams are a product of all the information gathered from the murmurs of plants themselves and encompasses all you have gathered through observation intuition interpretation and characterizations. It might include some of the folklore of the past. Tell us about these tools.

Sensory Herbalism draws on chakra theory as another tool of understanding the body and emotions. Understanding the ancient zodiac associations assigned by astrologers give us a sense of our body and its unique needs in relation to the world and natural allopathic ways to maintain health and balance.

Sheryl says As a Reiki Master Teacher compliments the authors on the lovely charts on the Chakras with Associations and Imbalances. Also great descriptions on Elemental Medicine including Ayurveda Chinese Medicine Western Medicine (the Four Humours)

Sheryl liked a way to see that there are multiple ways to connect with the divine to come to acceptance and unity from prayer meditation yoga tai chi to practical ritual such as methodical preparation of wood for the fire, to preparation of medicine herbs and to the ingestion of perception altering plants. Spirit is present in all beings and is accessible in different ways. It may be expressed as deep knowledge, as championing causes, as inspiring social change and justice, or as psychic abilities magic or intuition. Spirit informs our ritual practices with plant medicines and drives our connectivity.

In Sensory Herbalism, the plants predominately express one of the five elements and this in part relates to their astrological associations. For example plantain is ruled by the planet Saturn linked with the earth element…warm grounding generous. Plantain is therefore seen as a plant representing the earth element. Plantain as a mucous membrane restorative improves the stability of our own physical boundaries. Mucous membranes are a boundary between the outside and inside worlds preventing pathogens or allergens from penetrating the system and into the bloodstream

Each chapter contains a wealth of recipes and ideas for how to use the herbs both in the medicine cabinet and on the dinner table and Fiona tells us of that. We can refer to Bruce Parry who wrote the Foreword to the book and said, “To my mind the best healers and shamans are fully grounded beings who live in this world but can journey into the other realms. It is the moving between the worlds and finding the balance which is the real test and testament of wisdom today. It is all too simple to abide in one space or another. Everything can be a poison and everything can be a medicine—it’s all about context and degree, relationship and dose. Relationship is key. Plants exist inside of us and outside of us. Plants nourish and cure us, they propel and sustain us and also have character and are imbued with an essence or spirit just as humans are. Each herb is unique while also being a part of the whole.

Sheryl asks Fiona to tell us something of a plant that captured her attention, Daisy Bellis perennis. Daisy was the first herb that taught us to pay close attention to our intuition and also revealed that understanding the language of plants does not have to be complicated or mystical. Once a staple herbal medicine, its common name was bruisewort. indicating just one of its many healing gifts. Daisy had fallen out of fashion by the time we were training to be herbalists so we were not taught anything about this incredibly common little flower considered a garden weed. We decided to gather the delicate blooms everywhere and create a syrup and see what it had to offer. When tasted we discovered a sweet metallic soapy bitter flavor The soapy flavor indicated saponins plant constituents with an expectorant action helping to clear the lungs…(small white and yellow center flower growing everywhere.

The Seed sisters tell us that Daisy’s message was that it was needed in today’s society. One of its abilities is to revive our inner child; it is here to address the manic work ethic worry and anxiety that are prevalent in this modern age. With its message of play and be joyful don’t take life too seriously and bounce back from emotional bruising it became integral to our herbal blends. We created Drops of Courage and Passion Potion and set about giving drops to as many folks as we could at festivals and other events. People experienced amazing positive shifts and the Daisy Revolution had begun.

    The modern pharmaceutical industry still relies heavily on plants, a quarter of all prescription drugs come directly from, or are derivatives of plants Some of the most famous are;

    1. Quinine which is used to treat malaria and is synthesized from cinchona bark.
    2. Digoxin which is used to treat heart conditions and is derived from foxglove.
    3. Diacetylmorphine which is better known by its trade name heroin and was originally sold incorrectly as a non-addictive substitute for the naturally occurring morphine in poppy plants.
    4. Aspirin also know as acetylsalicylic acid which is the artificial reproduction of salicin found in willow bark of the Pacific yew.
    5. Taxol which is an anti-tumour drug derived from the bark of the Pacific yew.
    6. Artemisinin derived from a cousin of the mugworth plant Artemisia cinnua is a potent anti-malarial medicine discovered in 1972

The medical profession and politics have always been intertwined. The focus of healthcare in any given country is determined by the ideals of the political party in power. With the rise in influence of drug companies in recent decades, the medical profession is often at their mercy. Much medical research is conducted with a specific goal in mind determining how and where money is spent in the healthcare system. Power is often removed from the doctors, and access to medicine is determined by the pricing of drugs and alliances between the government and the pharmaceutical companies. The aim of herbalists is to protect the earth from greed and violence by linking people with their local medicinal plants. If people can recognize and harvest medicinal herbs, a reconnection with nature develops. On the foundations of self-empowerment respect for the Earth and knowledge of the past, a whole new system of healing can be built, creating community cohesion autonomy in healthcare and participation in grass-roots activism.

Seed politics and seed saving are linked to herbal medicine and we campaign for the ideal of a medicine garden in every community a growing space filled with abundant medicinal herbs accompanied by educational signs to support everybody’s learning and connection with the plants..

Sheryl says..It certainly would be better to treat minor illnesses with medicinal plant therapy and energy treatments not running to the doctor for prescription drugs which have many side effects as we all well know. Our society has revered a nation of victims and illness and people have relinquished their own self healing abilities as well as political rights to the government and other authorities leading to less individualistic approaches to mental and physical strength. Moving forward we must realize the power as individual to make choices and can find many benefits to modern allopathic medicine. Governments dictate how we can and cannot distribute herbal medicines yet often these government themselves have little knowledge about plant medicine.

A whole plant containing a multitude of chemical constituents has a very different action on the physical body because all those phytochemicals work synergistically. For example, the herb meadowsweet contains the compound salicylic acid the constituent that aspirin is derived from. Aspirin’s side effects include corroding the stomach lining and causing ulcers. Conversely, meadowsweet is actually indicated for stomach ulcers in herbal medicine and contains other elements in addition to salicylic acid working in synergy to prevent this side effect.

Plant medicine is an ancient mode of healing with countless systems and theories and can be daunting to the novice Managing optimum health as a day to day endeavor adding herbs to meals drinking daily herbal teas and reaching for specific herbs when you notice illness approaching can give a sense of wellbeing and empowerment. Following what is seasonally available avoids cumulative toxicity or potential adverse health risks of long term use of any one herb.

When harvesting herbs it is important to recognize the shifting seasons in order to catch the spring greens the summer flowers the autumn berries or the winter roots for your medicinal cabinet. There are loads of different ways to try drying herbs. You can put them in the oven on a very low heat. Leave the door open so moisture can escape Can also dry them in a basket in a warm and dry place. Then there’s much to know about Infusions/decoctions tinctures infused oils syrups vinegars and oxymels.

Sheryl thanks Fiona Heckels and Karen Lawton for the most beautiful and comprehensive presentation of plants in their book and the promotion empowerment autonomy freedom and diversity of plant and herbs in a preventive plan for wellness and optimal health that they clearly share.

In summarizing today’s episode of “Healing From Within” we have tried to share the magic and benefits of knowing and living with the medicinal power of local plants, a respect for holistic and personal approach to our well being and a bonding to the beauty of nature and its ability to help us work with mind body spirit healing.

Fiona writes, “Addiction has a root in personal feeling of lack and inadequacy. We are currently seeing this play out in the death economy of modern Western society—in our addiction to consumption and hoarding wealth that is destroying the very ecosystem we rely on for life.”

Fiona and Karen and I would have you return to the essence of your soul life and discover the many traditions and ancient healing techniques that as they are rediscovered and incorporated into modern day life will help us evolve and move past the limitations of these challenging times to remember the eternal soul essence of our natural being and will begin again to restore the health of our body mind and soul as well as our communities and political educational medical structures for we will awaken to our true potential and shine the light and love from within which in conjunction with the beauty of nature is our divine truth and our right as eternal spiritual beings to live in prosperity and health

  • Be The Light That You Are

Welcome to “Healing From Within” I am your host Sheryl Glick Reiki Master Teacher and author of The Living Spirit Answers for Healing and Infinite Love and welcome Debra Landwehr Engle author of Be The Light that You Are which shares an approach to moving from bitterness and divisiveness to peace during these highly charged political and emotional issues facing the nation and world and a way inspired by A Course in Miracles to tap into your own alignment to higher consciousness and to live with kindness decency and authenticity in troubled times.

As listeners of “Healing From Within” are well aware my guests and I share personal intimate stories and insights as we seek to understand our dual nature as spiritual beings having a physical life and how we may become attuned to our inner sense of intuition and guidance from Spirit so we may know that the physical world and all its challenges provide opportunities for self-growth and to master our emotions leading to health and happiness.

In today’s episode Debra Landwehr Engle, a longtime teacher of A Course in Miracles and the author of The Only Little Prayer You Need and Let Your Spirit Guides Speak, will share 10 simple ways to live with the light energy force and love that is your true nature and offer ways we may all change the world.

When I asked Debra to think back to her childhood and remember a person place event or a challenge that might have shown her or others the values and interests she would pursue in her adult life for I believe we are born with a soul destiny and life plan and it just unfolds as we begin to remember who we are and where we come from. Debra told me she was in a family who was very interested in metaphysical subjects and was always aware that life was so much more than we were able to see.

Debra writes, “When I was a little girl, I knew there was something more than this world of houses to live in and Monopoly games to play and bicycles to ride. On some level even though it wasn’t conscious, I knew that we each had a soul, spirit. Our dog Pepper and her puppies had souls. The sycamore tree I climbed in the front yard had a soul. The fireflies we caught in Mason jars with holes punched in the lids had souls. The word soul means different things to different people, but I mean it as a spark of light, a mysterious but animating energy that brought us to life and gave us the ability to feel care and experience. I knew this light came from a source beyond me and that we all embodied it…..Our gruff old neighbor across the street had it. So did my teachers—the ones I liked and the ones I didn’t like. So did Billy, the boy in my class who talked with a lisp and was the target of other kid’s jokes.

Sheryl asks Debra why on the back description of the book it says “Life is hard” for Sheryl likes to think that many people may think this but she prefers to think of life as riddled with mysteries and unsolved ways to bring out all our talents and remembrances of our heart or soul so we can see the beauty of nature the world and Spirit and learn to accept everything as necessary for our soul development and evolution. It is not exactly hard as much as it is what it is, a physical world where change is constant so we must find ways to make it easier for ourselves and for others. Debra immediately says those are not her words, but the words of the publisher as they try to capture the fear which resides in the ego mind reality and not at the heart of the matter as Sheryl and Debra further discuss.

Some of the ways we can stay true to our higher values and spiritual principles and understand life as a vehicle for our best interests moving beyond thinking it is hard and is thinking of it as necessary events for our growth. Here are some of the ways to stay true to our spiritual principles:

Claiming your unique gifts and blessings Fostering self-love Meeting others without judgment Asking for help Rising above the battlefield Taking the path of forgiveness

Although some of the teachings seem basic in a Course In Miracles it is still difficult for many people to implement them into their everyday lives. Debra tells us about some of the constant thoughts or main theme and direction of A Course In Miracles.

Perhaps A Course in Miracles simply takes you back to the memory of Who you are. You are an eternal beloved soul of Universal Divine Creative life within the force of Creation or God and through the challenges of the physical world growing more into the magnificent force of your light and goodness. Debra writes, Consider the stories you’ve told yourself about who you are. Pay attention to how many of those stories are based on your “shortcomings” or “failings.” When you become aware, you’ll likely see that those stories, no matter how deeply embedded they may be, don’t fully explain who you are or what you’re about.”

“Listen to the voice deep within—maybe long buried and faint—that says, I am more than my fears. I am more than my mistakes. I am more than my shame. There is a light within me I have not yet seen….As you remember the light that you are, you’ll expose your old structures and beliefs for what they are: simply a story. Because you’ve lived with that story for a long time and it feels like home to you’re nothing will be gained by making yourself homeless. So be patient and gentle with yourself. Don’t try to dismantle the structure all at once.”

In discussing what it means to not judge others we cannot judge ourselves either. Once we stop doing that we will be free of the pain that we are not enough and begin to realize we have everything we need to accomplish our soul mission in this life, whatever it is.

In Sheryl’s book in reference to implementing faith, allowance and acceptance for our life plan and having what we need within us, we can achieve the evolution of our light or soul essence. Sheryl wrote in “The Living Spirit” in order to receive energy and Divine inspiration from that Higher information band of spiritual knowledge or Source, it is necessary to conquer our need to control others and it is necessary to be honest with ourselves about what we need to do for our own highest good. Therefore, we must not make judgments about other people’s behavior and actions, and we must not interfere in the way they choose to conduct their lives. Detachment from judgment and great expression of love towards those suffering is the best way to help them. By the same token, we must not allow others to make decisions for us and take away our personal soul power.”

This book Be The Light that You Are is not a Christian book or a Buddhist book or a Jewish book but a book for humans. Be The Light that You Are is about the higher ideals that govern all no matter where we live, what we do for a living, the color of our skin, our sexual orientation, our age, our culture, or whether we worship or not and where. This book depends on a belief in a higher power. We use different names for this power or force of life such as God Source or Divine Spark but ideally these names all stand for the same thing, “the Creator” who is not defined by a particular religion or theology. You might think this book excludes atheism or agnostics but that is not the intent, but if we substitute Love instead of a higher power or God, we can all see that there are many ways to work beyond fear and negativity to find our higher source of well being and happiness by living with kindness, cooperation, and a clear hope for peace according to a divine universal philosophy.

Debra has written a book The Only Prayer You Need, and the prayer that we need is simply to ask to help us find the way past any negativity or fear or limitation of our heart and mind, so we are always searching for the best in ourselves and life.

Sheryl says that she feels herself to be in constant prayer all day includes using the words that share blessings with others and heal them such as “thank you” and “forgive me” along with other words of an uplifting nature, preventing her from lapsing into judgment or fear and asking spirit often during the day to “Help me to know the path that will best serve Spirit and my human and spiritual destiny.” Sheryl is grateful for all the love and help that comes to her each minute of each day and for feeling the beauty of Spirit when channeling messages that help her clients and herself to bask in the innocent kindness and gentleness of unconditional love.

Debra says the only thing her book requires from the reader is a willingness no matter how small to believe that we can live without constant drama violence and conflict.

Sheryl says that in her book The Living Spirit, she addresses the way to find peace and happiness regardless of the drama and violence and unknowingness of other people’s behaviors and writes, “Since I receive intuitive messages for my clients, many people have asked me, “How can I find peace and happiness in my life?” “This is the answer I give them: Before there can be peace and happiness in a person’s life and in the world, every person must be responsible to do their own work about acknowledging what needs to change within their attitudes or actions so they can better relate to the outer world. Finding true happiness and joy is the natural outcome of self-investigation. There are no shortcuts. No one can make you happy or unhappy unless you give him or her the power to do that by surrendering or giving your own power away. It may seem easier to become a victim and align yourself with other unhappy people making your status or inclusion in a group secure. But this is a copout. Most people want to be loved and accepted by a group regardless of the cost to their own individual character. Therefore they tell themselves many stories in order to be accepted by others. Many less evolved souls may even choose to blame parents, spouses or children for any unhappiness they experience or any delays in achieving immediate goals or desired outcomes. However it is not only by our own efforts and choices that each of us can develop a sense of accomplishment and self-growth but by recognizing the greater whole of our being and the role we play in creating everything in our lives.”

What is the light that shines within each of us? Debra writes, “Within all of us, there’s a light that shines like a lantern’s bright flame. We may call it love, divine energy or an expression of our Source. No matter what name we give it that light never goes out. As we go through life, though, our self-doubts dim the sides of that lantern. The drama in the world adds its own layers of soot. And eventually, it’s easy to lose sight of the flame burning within, forget how bright it is, or believe it was never there at all.”

The idea that you are the light may seem radical. But references to being the light show up in every major religion and spiritual teaching.

A Course in Miracles says, “We are the light of the world.”

The Buddha says, “Be your own lamp, seek no other refuge but yourself, let truth be your light.”

Matthew 5:14-16 says, “Your are the light of the world…let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deed and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Each of these quotes alludes to the truth that the Spirit/Creator/Higher Power who created us is divine love and so are we. In other words, the Spirit/Creator/Higher Power who created us is not broken, sinful, bad evil or incomplete. And, as Spirit’s progeny neither are we.

You remember that you’re the light as you get past the fears that have been taught for many centuries by so many learned people that they have been institutionalized in our schools, our lives and our government. That’s why it is important to remember when you were little and could feel or see the pure light in yourself and others, before it became stained with fear. How do you get to the point where you look in a mirror and say, “Yes I am the light” as easily as you say I am a mother or I am a teacher. Who are you? The answer to that question is the great equalizer because it is the same for everyone. “We are the light.” This truth comes from a level of higher consciousness or higher self and is soul based as well as based in the divine light of Spirit.

Debra discusses changing the concept of sin and changing it to the word fear. That can help us understand the troublesome ways and acts of people. As Debra writes, “Let’s think of all the gay men and women who marry because they believe their sexual orientation is sinful then live lives in shame and fear of being found out. Think about the adults who abuse children as a punishment for their “sins.” Think of the millions of lives lost in wars that have been fought because another country or culture was “sinful.” Teachings about sinfulness can sometimes lead to mercy and compassion but they can and do lead to a distrust of God yourself and the world. This can make you feel alone, cynical and adrift because you always wonder if you deserve to be loved. And even when you are surrounded by love, you cannot let it in. So if we change the word “sin” to “fear” instead of saying the school shooter is sinful, he is overwhelmed by fear and pain. And instead of “This world is sinful,” it feeds our fear.” This language reflects the fact that we’re not broken; we’ve simply forgotten who and what we are.

Sheryl says That is correct. Until we understand ourselves as spiritual beings having a physical life and that we are spirit as is everyone else connected to the Creative force which is the divine spark or soul within each of us is that Creative force. We will have the personal power to conquer our fears. We can bask in the magnificent potential of our own divinity which is love and can create goodness, kindness and wonderful expressions of beauty into the world. But first, you must know who you are.

Sheryl has never been much concerned with sin or suffering and does not think of people as some religions suggest that we are all sinners. For like anything else we choose what we do and say and when you are aware that your choices are creating your reality and that the Law of Attraction is always functioning, you will replace fear with love and good and will monitor your every thought, disengaging from negativity when it surfaces, and embracing more productive ways to create a stream of more acceptable possibilities. Suffering is also a choice. Living with tolerance, acceptance and surrendering to all events lead you to know that nothing is good or bad; just experiences the soul chooses to know as it seeks its highest level of truth.

We can discover there are two primary emotions: fear and love and everything negative and destructive to our soul well being lies under fear and we constantly try to find ways to move from fear to love and well being as it should be. Fear equals disease, distrust distress disaster dissatisfaction dismay disallow destroy deny denigrate etc. Love equals bliss, health positivity joy happiness well being creation satisfaction etc.

Debra shows us why many people fail to show their great spiritual gifts with others and shy away from their greatness. We’ve been trained to think that claiming our gifts and grandeur equates with self-importance. But knowing you’re the light of the world doesn’t mean you’re a braggart or that you think you’re more important and special than others. There’s a big difference between saying, I’m more important than anyone else and I’m important because I’m a child of God—everyone else is too. In fact, A Course In Miracles says, If God made us to be the Light of the World, who are we to deny His creation?

    Debra leaves us with the idea that there are 4 steps to help you remember the light you are;

Pay attention to what you tell yourself. Make a commitment to say one loving thing to yourself each day. You will claim the truth of your inner light.

Spend time in your heart each day. Share gratitude for your blessings, send love to those you care about and ask a power greater than you to extend love throughout the world on your behalf.

Bring more beauty into your life. When you start feeling frustration, anger, anxiety or shame, focus on beauty, buy yourself a bouquet of flowers or go to an art museum. Beauty is effervescent. It lifts you up which will help you remember who you are.

Imagine the light within. In your mind’s eyes focus on a spot above your navel and see the light as a candle or open flame. See that light form a circle around you and grow brighter and imagine it touching everyone around you. Feel the peace or blessing and know they are real because you are remembering the light that you are.

    Being the light means:

You have a purpose that has nothing to do with your job or the many roles you play in life.

You’re willing to turn many of your old beliefs inside out and see them from another perspective.

You’re not alone because you’re connected to something greater than yourself. Compassion, kindness, abundance and well being are your natural state so you needn’t do anything to earn or deserve them. You don’t have to prove your values to anyone because your value is an innate state of being.

When you combine your light with the light of other, powerful and wondrous things can happen with less effort.

You are not a victim in a random universe. Like you everyone on the planet is more than their bodies, opinions, and circumstances.

When you need answers and support, you trust that you’ll find guidance by turning within.

Sheryl thanks Debra Landwehr Engle author of Be the Light that You Are for the gentle way she guides those already on the path to awakening to validating their own remembrances of the “light within” and to be able to see the world with clarity as they use their spiritual gifts to achieve peace and well being.

In summarizing today’s episode of “Healing From Within” we have explored ways to remember our soul essence or the bright light within and the eternal nature of life so we may move past the restrictions and limitations of fear sin and the ego based illusion that society and old beliefs encourage us to think and which the physical world pushes us to focus on. In actuality, our inner world or soul thoughts are creating our reality and also the actions throughout the collective world. When focused on materialistic gains alone and forgetting the dual nature of life, our spiritual as well as our physical needs, we are lost. It is simply in knowing we are beings of light and love and can create whatever we need to live in peace and harmony that we are able to combine our dual nature and live a more prosperous, purposeful and happy life. It is in forgetting the truth of the divinity of each of us that we feel alone, separate from spirit and each other and that is the great lie. For in truth we are never alone and always aligned to the creative force of life and in remembering that truth, we can know ourselves as co-creators and part of possibilities for all that is beautiful and good within us.

Debra and I would have our listeners begin to pay attention to their thoughts trying to rest in quietness rather than judgment or fear and allow thoughts to shift to more pleasant positive and loving ideas and values knowing their soul has the power to change life for themselves and others. Shift from negativity to loving thoughts and actions and watch the changes that you begin to behold. Step back and listen to intuitive thoughts and guide yourself to accept the love you are. As listeners of the show are well aware Sheryl and her guests share intimate stories of a growing awareness of life showing us that as spiritual or energetic beings having a physical life we possess enormous possibilities for creating or manifesting conditions that encourage prosperity, health, love and joy as that quite simply is our natural birth right. The key of course is to become aware of Who we are? What life is about? and How to utilize our inner wisdom for success.

In today’s episode of “Healing From Within’ Theresa Cheung who was born into a family of psychics and spiritualists went to Kings College, Cambridge University graduating with a masters in theology and English and is the author of numerous bestselling mind body spirit books will share today how to think about Intuition from the simple way a mother may have a feeling about her child’s needs to how we gather information about the best plan of action from a gut feeling which have often proven to yield better results in decision making than logic. We will discover how like optimism, intuition can be cultivated.

Theresa shares her scientific search to describe intuition and how may it be cultivated. The best way to understand intuition is to experience it. Your intuition is an untapped source of higher wisdom that draws on your previous knowledge but it is also much more than that. It is the still quiet voice within you, an awareness of cognitive messages, auditory information, visual images and physical sensations that can provide you with meaningful information about past present or future realities. Some even consider intuition a form of ESP or extrasensory perception.

Sheryl says..It is indeed an alignment to the Universal Energy or life force of creation which flows through each of us: surrounds us and is indeed the awareness of “All that is.” In other words intuition is the wisdom of the eternal soul and as described by the messages of clairvoyance clairaudience clairsentience are often the heightened gifts of sensitives, psychics, mediums, healers and prophets.

In her book The Living Spirit Sheryl addressed this great gift of knowingness or intuition as our soul’s wisdom and wrote, “Before I awakened to the awareness of the continuity of the eternal Soul, the immense possibility for the growth of each person’s personal power, and the ability to connect to spiritual energies, I did not know or even vaguely understand how to listen to my inner voice. Was this the whisper of guidance from a higher self, or a gut feeling connected to the mind, or an innate cellular intelligence? I now know the inner voice comes to us from our own soul essence, as well as the Divine whispers of other souls to whom we are connected and wish to aid us from afar in whatever situations we find ourselves. The mind containing our intellect or ego with its constant chatter and fearful thoughts makes it harder to follow our soul whispers. After years as an energy healer and medium, I am aware of the ordinary mental thoughts as compared to the higher thoughts of my soul and all the souls in Spirit.”

SO then Sheryl says rituals and acceptance of destiny and past experiences have hastened and aided her progress as it will all who begin to mindfully and reverently accept their powerful personal soul power. With consistency trust meditation and being with like minded people who swirl in the same energy of creating their own truth through an acceptance and surrendering to their destiny and life plan many miracles can be created to help themselves and others.

Theresa Cheung goes on to elaborate on what a ritual is and some of the meaningful and intentional rituals to be developed when one first tries to enhance their already natural gift of intuition. A ritual is in its simplest form an action performed with intention and feeling that boosts your motivation, understanding and well being. Our daily actions shape our lives. Repeat an action long enough and it becomes a habit, but habits often lack meaning. To ensure meaningful change our actions have to be filled with personal feelings and meaning. The need to be ritualized…creating personal ritual, brings the presence of the sacred into your daily life and that has meaning for you as a potential tool for both personal and spiritual growth. An example would be looking in a mirror and smiling which can be energizing and light up your face.

In addition to the spiritual perspective there’s a whole lot of science to back up the life-changing power of ritual. For starters scientists from the University of California have shown that your brain is led more by your actions than your thoughts. This suggests that your daily routines are the place to begin because if your daily actions are positive, your thoughts will follow. Change, according to science, starts with what you do, the actions you take, rather than what you think. If you walk or exercise you will feel better physically and emotionally. Your actions—getting some exercise boost your mood.

In addition research indicates it is not so much the actual ritual you perform that matters. Simply having rituals in your life is key and also key that those rituals are personal to you in some way. They are beneficial as they are actions that focus your intention on the present moment. This is a link to the mindfulness movement we hear so much about.

As Theresa researched and practiced the rituals in this book 21 Rituals to Ignite Your Intuition it became clear that the rituals actually encourage personal transformation and are natural mood and self esteem booster. Helping you become calmer, more positive and confident which the world could truly benefit from in these challenging changing times.

Theresa says positive thinking alone doesn’t work. The reason it doesn’t work is that positive thinking is only half the story. The other half is positive doing and that is where rituals play their part in the drama of our lives. We’ve all been so intoxicated by the thoughts creating our reality mantra, we’ve forgotten something very obvious, thoughts, words meditations, affirmations, visualizations, prayers, and dreams mean absolutely nothing if you don’t take action. Your actions need to attract what you want in your life in the same way you hope positive thinking will. With daily rituals you combine the potential power of positive thinking with the real power of positive action. The Universe source or Spirit responds to action!

Intuition is a skill that we can strengthen through intentional practice. Aristotle wrote “Intuition is the source of scientific knowledge.” So let’s think how we currently make decisions. Most people might list the pros and cons or ask advice from other people or search endlessly for and gather information. There is merit in all these rational approaches but for important decisions like moving, changing jobs or even getting married research shows that your intuition is your best resource. Intuition is not guessing but informed and based on experiences and information stored in our long term memories—the information we aren’t consciously aware of but which we have stored away and which can reveal itself through a flash of intuition.

Currently intuition research is booming and intuition is regarded as a very real ability by scientists and psychologists. In 2014 the US Navy allocated an astonishing four million dollars for research into the workings of intuition as a potential life-saver for members of the armed forces and whether or not there are ways to improve it with training. Indeed an increasing number of other respected studies explore the process and make sense of information unconsciously received. Research by Dr. Julia Mossbridge and Dr. Dean Radin takes this further and suggests our bodies may intuitively know things before they happen. Sending us signs like increased heart rate to warn or guide us. This is called presentiment or predictive anticipatory activity. Finally studies done at the Max Planck Institute have confirmed that intuitive decisions are reached faster and are subjectively better than those landed on by purely rational means.

Many people are already using intuition though they may be unaware that they are. Sheryl can strongly attest to this truth. She has been using intuition and psychic empathic ability all her life just thinking it was her own good thinking, hard work and persistence that made her achieve many of her goals. Sheryl tells us that many years ago when she first started her Reiki energy healing practice she had a girl at the front desk of the office taking money payments and a sum of money had accumulated. One day Sheryl walked in and a thought flew through her head, “Take the money now.” Sheryl had a busy morning of sessions planned so she put her attention on the work schedule of the day and ignored that thought. The next day the girl was gone as she had been fired and when Sheryl went to her envelope only a few dollars were left…hundreds of dollars were gone. Sheryl learned a lesson that day she must pay attention to her thoughts and act immediately… not procrastinating.

So this shows us again what intuition is and Theresa wrote “Intuition is your connection to something deeply wise within you that leads you to make decisions based on your highest level of good judgment. It provides you with valuable insights about yourself, your life, the people you interact with and the situations you encounter. It is not a moral compass or a supreme authority about what is absolutely right and wrong for everyone. But it does provide a sense of what is right for you and what isn’t going to be in your best interests. Trouble is intuition is often so hard to identify, connect to and trust because it is the inner voice many of us lose contact with and don’t know how to identify when it does try to speak.

Theresa tells us the story of how her life was saved when she was in her early thirties. She was driving behind a truck when a voice inside her head told her without explanation to turn right when she really needed to turn left to get to her destination. She obeyed that voice and avoided a crash that killed three people, one of whom would have been her if I hadn’t listened to that voice. You’d have thought that this dramatic experience would have given her faith in her intuition and I would have gone from intuitive strength to strength. It didn’t, so I took courses, read books, meditated, visualized, journeyed, tried hypnotherapy and finally found Intuition is something that comes from within me, not something I can learn or acquire from the outside in.

We can boost our intuitive reflex through daily rituals. Well now we know that intuition is unconscious reasoning that urges us to do something when we don’t have any idea why or how we know it. It is a knowing without knowing. You might think that intuition is a gift you can’t control or command. Science is proving that intuition is a real super sense, but to connect to it you need to be preferably positive and have a calm state of mind. Rituals are ideal because they occupy and calm your conscious mind with the action performed while allowing your brain’s associative powers to get to work producing the intuitive guidance you need. In short the more ritual there is in your life the more intuitive you become.

By performing at least one intuition igniting ritual a day for 21 days you are therefore keeping your mind focused on the intuition boosting power of that ritual for the minimum length of time required to unlock neural pathways that can stimulate your intuition.

Sheryl says that as a Reiki Master Teacher when a student is attuned to the Reiki 1 level of training it is required for them to do the self treatment on themselves for the first 21 days and they are actually encouraged to do it every day as a ritual meditation relaxation and a connection to spirit and the healing guides who help us with the work we do.

For the rituals that we offer here it is important to pick at least one new ritual for 21 days to imprint itself on your brain and become a natural part of your life…just like brushing your teeth, combing your hair and sleeping all rituals to make life healthier and more productive.

Rituals can help us become aware that certain activities can help us tap into our intuition and tend to cluster around three major themes

    1. Becoming more self-aware and mindful
    2. Creativity and imagination
    3. Relating to yourself and others with empathy

The seven wake up rituals are

    1. Forget your phone Highly intuitive people aren’t glued to their phones because they know their best insights come when they are off line…Ironically as social media is designed to make us feel good by being connected studies have shown that many people feel dissatisfied after visiting sites like Facebook ..it seems selfies and the focus on likes and dislikes of others triggers envy and feelings of being left out. Forgetting about your phone puts you in charge, not the outside world.
    2. Eyes Wide Shut According to science intuition is an unconscious insight that bursts into our conscious awareness after substantial mental and emotional processing. At night when you dream you are receiving information from the unconscious intuitive part of your brain so paying attention to dreams helps to tap into your unconscious. The Malaysian Senoi tribe are known for being free of depression and crime. Why? They use dreams for personal growth and encourage children from an early age to pay less attention to the material world and more to the world of dreams. People who are highly intuitive pay attention to their dreams. Dream recall is a sacred ritual for highly successful people..Paul McCartney heard the Beatles song Yesterday in a dream Neurologists believe that rapid eye movement REM phase of sleep in which dreams occur corresponds to brain development processing information and boosting memory.
    3. trike a Pose Now think about your body language whenever you need to make an important decision. Think big and act big. Your intuition responds to confidence. The longer you keep your body hunched and small the repeated signal to your body and brain is that you are small and unimportant. People who stretch and raise their arms up will be happier and healthier so do that first thing in the morning
    4. Two minutes of quiet time is all you need for the powerful intuition-igniting ritual. Intuition igniting benefits include meditation which can change how your brain functions and help you deal calmly with emotions and stress. People who meditate have less risk of stroke and heart attacks. Also reduces the risk of depression there are suggestions it should be taught in schools showing that students who meditated regularly were more lightly to graduate.
    5. Think Back Intuition doesn’t obey the linear, logical or rational laws that govern our waking lives. Intuition springs from the unconscious where there is no order or sense of time and space. You can create the most receptive mind and body awareness for intuition to surface and thrive
    6. Shower Insight We all have insights but it is using them to inspire action that those insights become reality
    7. Tooth time Instinctively knowing something about a place a situation or person without being aware of how you know—and that something turns out to be correct is the voice of your intuition speaking loud and clear. Brushing your teeth is a good time for igniting your intuition and may also be good news for heart health and your well being also.

Theresa Cheung author of 21 Rituals to Ignite Your Intuition has shared a clear understanding of the nature of intuition, the benefits and the ways to begin to heighten and grow intuition which is an important tool for advancing personal goals towards greater health prosperity and happiness www.theresacheung.com

In summarizing today’s episode of “Healing From Within” we have explored the inner world of intuition and discovered many rituals that we may begin to practice to enhance and awaken our natural gift of inner knowing which aids us in making decisions and choices that create a happy healthy positive life journey.

As Theresa writes, Trouble is many of us don’t know how to recognize when our intuition is speaking to us as we so often confuse it with the voices of fear or wishful thinking. We also tend to assume intuition is spontaneous and outside our control. To some extent that is true. Intuition is like a wild bird. It isn’t meant to be caged. But, just as a bird can be trained to fly to you and eat out of your hand, it is possible to not only recognize when your intuition is speaking but also to harness it through the power of ritual.

Theresa and I would hope you begin to discover and use your God given divinely inspired key to your inner life and wisdom, your intuition as a way to know how to maneuver yourself through this physical world with greater efficacy, to inspire and manifest your best life.

  • MINDFUL PATHS LEADING TO HIGHER AWARENESS

Welcome to “Healing From Within” with host Sheryl Glick Reiki Master Teacher, intuitive healer and author of The Living Spirit which shares stories of spiritual communication healing energies miracles and finding intuition for creating your most purposeful joyful and healthy life. Today Sheryl welcomes Rev. Constance McClain author of Mindful Paths: Steps Towards a Living Spirituality which is based on a course entitled Spiritual Health that Rev. Constance McClain developed for using in a classroom setting that has been available for over ten years now. It is a key component in an accredited degree program on Holistic Health. As Listeners of “Healing From Within” are well aware Sheryl and her guests share intimate experiences and stories in an advanced metaphysical search to discover who we are. why we are experiencing this physical life, and how we may merge our energetic intuitive soul wisdom with our ego based reality for a productive happy and healthy life journey. It is we find in the knowing that we are spiritual beings having a physical life that we begin to understand the energy aspects of our thinking health and how we create with our thoughts our own reality for better or worse. As it is said, “We are the masters of our journey.”

In today’s episode of Healing From Within we will discuss what Living Spiritually actually is and how coincidences or divine intervention often bring us together with people who share a similar interest as we discover more about ourselves the world universe and ways to create our healthiest most prosperous loving life story and learn how to deal with the stumbling blocks or challenges along the way.

Rev Constance tells us about the genesis for her book Mindful Paths Steps towards Living Spiritually which she co-authored with Rev.James Anthony Walker and how she believes that there was divine intervention many times in her life and that it was not random or a coincidence that she met Rev Walker and wrote this book. Perhaps an awareness of the benefits of mindful spiritual awareness and meditation practices led to the genesis of this book. His leadership and passion have led the way in the development of a rigorous body of research focused on the physiological and psychological benefits of mindfulness meditation.

The results are staggering and have brought meditation into the mainstream of our healthcare systems.

Meditation, in all of its many forms, is here to stay. We hope, if it’s not already a daily practice for you, that you’ll give it a try. As with any physical fitness training practice, there are certain elements of it that are foundational. There are many forms of meditation Here is one….Transcendental Meditation, with its roots in the Vedic traditions of India, was brought into the global mainstream in the 1950s by Indian guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It is a form of silent mantra (most often a religious or spiritual thought/prayer) meditation, practiced sitting comfortably, with eyes closed, and assuming no particular position from the yoga traditions. The fundamental goal of TM is largely the same as with other meditation practices… to quiet the mind to a point where a greater clarity and focus can be achieved. While training in TM requires a time commitment and financial investment, you may find some approximation of the clearing benefits of this practice by selecting a mantra that holds meaning for you (‘Om Nama Shivaya’ from the Hindu tradition is a good one, and means ‘I honor the Divinity in all things’)… and, seated in a posture which is respectful to your body… say it silently, repeatedly, for 15 to 20 minutes. You may want to journal about your experience, as well as with these other techniques. Mindfulness meditation continues to experience remarkable growth and popularity all over the planet, and today, as a spiritual practice it has also become increasingly legitimized within the medical community a development which has come in large part through the competent hands and creative mind of Jon Kabat-Zinn.

Living an inspired life is important because it is completely co-mingled with the endless creativity of the universe, of Spirit. Life in all of its dimensions is constantly creating something new of itself, expressing itself in new and exciting ways. For us to live a life outside of that flow seems somehow less than what it should be. And yet, we often do.

We become creatures of habit, because it is comfortable, easy. Life is working just fine for us, so as the old saying goes: why upset the apple cart? What we lose in the process is our ability to hear the subtle voices inside us. Our ability to hear our inner guide, that which many would call our intuition… that rarely steers us wrong, if only we are willing and able to hear.

And that is where so many of the practices we’ll be discussing and experiencing will serve you well. They are the key to your inner world, where you can establish your connection to a higher source. You may not know at the moment how to get there. That’s okay… you are at the beginning of this journey of spiritual transformation and that takes a lifetime.

It begins with nothing more than your desire to unearth the parts of you that you want to create, recreate, or co-create… rooted in a personal belief that there is a more evolved, conscious, authentic human inside of you. A decision to expand your life and awaken to the best human being you can possibly become. So let’s begin to locate that inner pulse of yours, in search of that higher, lighter self… the one that arises from a Divine source, or energy, known by any name comfortable for you. Our favorite words to describe this higher (Divine) energy are: Great Spirit, God, Christ Consciousness, Buddha Mind, The Ground of Being, and Source.

Sheryl says, “I always thought of Spirit or God as a philosophical idea to help man and communities deal with the challenges and difficulties of confronting loss illness death and sadness. As a child, a sensitive, I often felt the pain or joy of others and responded to those stimuli in many different ways thought not knowing I was an empathy. It was at times painful and challenging and I needed to learn to protect this quality, which could either be a gift of a difficulty if I was not able to protect my own needs and thoughts. I always followed the thoughts that made good sense and as a result was successful and happy, but not fully aware of this complete connection to Spirit, either in a religious spiritual or physical way until about 26 years ago while being quite ill with the flu I had what I thought was a dream and sensed my grandfather in energy standing to my right side and telling me I had to write something for my father. The next day I received a phone call that my father had passed and proceeded to write his eulogy and so began my journey to understand spiritual communication the afterlife Universal Energy and how we are all connected to one another and source. It was fascinating for me to discover what happens to us when we leave our physical life. As a medium and energy healer I have explored the metaphysical aspects of life and have found that indeed we are very much more than we appear to be.”

Rev Constance gives interesting descriptions of divine paradoxes which Sheryl found very compelling as they show us much more of how paradoxes can lead us to a process of spiritual discernment and to examining truth in our own lives.

Divine Paradoxes are seemingly contradictions, deeper truths. A paradox is a statement that combines several premises, each of which are true in and of themselves, which in their juxtaposition together lead to what seems at first an unacceptable conclusion, but which prove to be well-founded upon our deeper reflection. One of the best examples of secular paradox has to be the entire opening paragraph of Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.” How can all of these things be true? Well, in this particular example, Dickens is describing life in two cities, London and Paris around the time of the French Revolution, and indeed, from different perspectives that could absolutely have been both a brilliant and accurate statement. Divine paradoxes on the other hand, take us into a much deeper process of spiritual discernment, and ask us to examine their truth in our own lives. Here is the Second Verse of the Tao Te Ching, an ancient, holy and paramount piece of writing attributed to Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu, a 6th century BC contemporary of Confucius: Under heaven all can see beauty as beauty, only because there is ugliness. All can know good as good only because there is evil. Being and non-being produce each other. The difficult is born in the easy. Long is defined by short, the high by the low. Before and after go along with each other. So the sage lives openly with apparent duality and paradoxical unity. The sage can act without effort and teach without words. Nurturing things without possessing them, he works, but not for rewards; he competes, but not for results. When the work is done, it is forgotten. That is why it lasts forever. A journaling assignment you might suggest in reference to those statements above might be to choose one sentence from Lao Tzu’s work above about which to briefly share your thoughts. What is your interpretation of it, and what does it mean to you personally?

Rev Constance shares a story of a child who tries to help a struggling butterfly but in his haste to help actually harmed the process of creation. Don’t we often do the same in our attempt to help another try to do it for them. However each person must have the experience to see life in their own way and often we cause more damage than good by not allowing the plan to unfold in the way it spiritually is meant to. Here is the story of a child who meant well. A small child spent hours watching a butterfly struggling to emerge from its cocoon.

It managed to make a small hole, but its body was too large to get through it.

After a long struggle, it appeared to be exhausted, and remained absolutely still.

The little one decided to help the butterfly and, with a pair of scissors, cut open the cocoon, freeing the butterfly from its struggle. But the butterfly’s body was very small and wrinkled, and its wings were all crumpled.

The child continued to watch his new friend, hoping that at any moment, the butterfly would open its wings and fly away. But nothing happened.

In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its brief life dragging around its shrunken body and shriveled wings, incapable of flight.

While acting only out of kindness, the child simply didn’t know that the tight cocoon and the struggle of the butterfly to squeeze out of it was Nature’s way of training the butterfly, and of strengthening its wings.

Sometimes, a little extra effort is exactly what prepares us for the next obstacle we face in our lives. These struggles are a part of our journey, and they prepare us for what awaits. It is in the struggle that we learn to fly. -author unknown Rev Constance discusses the difficult times we live in and how changes are happening even though we need to let go of some of the trappings of our ancestors.

She writes, “It’s scary out there. We live in a time filled with chaos and uncertainty, worldwide. As a contemporary humanity, we have no corner on the market, but over the history of the planet many continue to seek stability during these unsettling times, by turning their attention toward time-tested tools that can help. In the past, this often meant turning outward to one of hundreds of faith traditions worldwide, to find equanimity, community, confidence, and the courage to go forward in life. But since the 1960s, here in the United States and in many other countries, young people have begun to move away from the churches, faith traditions, and definitions of community which served their parents and grandparents. Because even though these time-tested institutions were no longer approachable or authentic enough for a younger generation living in a significantly transformed world, they still found themselves yearning for more understanding and inner guidance for their lives… still yearning to find and develop their “highest self,” but without some of the trappings of their ancestors. Their numbers became so large, and their statistics so overwhelmingly unavoidable, that they emerged as a new category of “spiritual seekers” that author Sven Erlandson coined the SBNR… an acronym where they could begin to self-identify as those who had chosen not to become involved with organized religion, but who instead were “spiritual but not religious,” still wanting to develop approaches to better evolving into their higher spiritual selves.

Our needs are changing. Time has shown this as something more than an overnight sensation that is here today and gone tomorrow. The Pew Research Center conducted a 2012 study on SBNRs, and their findings gave us new vision to both their size and scope. The number of Americans who do not identify with any religion has increased from 15% in 2007, to 20% in 2012, and a follow-up study has shown that number continues to experience significant growth… to 27% in 2017. The depth and breadth of these approaches to spiritual growth are both eye-opening and potentially life-changing, and in this book, we’ll walk you through a number of spiritual practices that will help you open your heart and mind, while becoming far less judgmental in your everyday life. This book Mindful Path is about the self-discovery of you, and how to begin to look at your world through a more mindful, authentic lens… one that is truly yours, and one where we can begin to better recognize the importance of working together to create a better world for ourselves, our children, and for all sentient beings. This outlook asks us to expand our perspective of life itself, and to look at it through a much more panoramic lens. A lens of inclusiveness and care, not only for our families, but for Mother Earth herself, and all the species that she wraps in her constant, loving and non-judgmental care.

Living from this perspective is an inside job, and so we’ll begin by better understanding how we witness the world, determining whether or not we witness it through a lens of non-judgment, kindness and compassion… or in some other way that may not even be truly our own.

Sheryl has discovered over time that perhaps the reason a soul opts for a physical life with it’s many challenging aspects is to have the opportunity to remember their soul magnificence and eternal life force and find once again what may have been lost…their true soul essence past time and space bridging heaven and earth. The remembrance of your inner being brings with it many wonderful awareness of peace love interconnectedness Source and divine life paving the way to creating spiritual as well as physical and emotional well being.

Spiritual health is a thing. Perhaps one of the root causes is a lack of reverence for life itself, lost for so many in an increasingly disposable culture. Perhaps a deadening of our willingness and ability to communicate in a world that operates at light speed, where change comes at a pace which often exceeds our ability to absorb it. And so, we become numb to it. Let’s face it. Being human means we’ll be wounded and scarred. This pain can either be mental, emotional or both, often manifesting in physical symptoms that can disrupt our lives, and often either shut down our ability or our willingness to cope with it. We believe that over thousands and thousands of years, this has left a deep wound in our collective heart and soul. These wounds cry out to us to be healed. But with an empathy that is compromised, it has become increasingly difficult to hold something, anything… reverentially. And so, have these centuries old wounds weakened our sensitivities toward the world at large? Imagine if we all woke up one morning feeling the collective pain and suffering of humanity. Could we regain our empathy, and our reverence for humanity? Is this our problem, or at least part of the problem? We’ve written this book because we hope it can help us, together, to become a part of the solution to a world seemingly at war with itself. That when we live our lives with moral integrity, we can become more aware, more conscious, and far more awake to our unique potential to support others Rev. Constance says “The Choice is Ours.” And Sheryl asks, “What choice are we talking about?” Allowing ourselves to be the spiritual beings that we are means that we first come to understand our values. Do we refuse to accept greed, dishonesty, cruelty, violence, discrimination or any other mindsets that, through our ego-based self-centeredness only compromise the other sentient beings with which we share this Earth? If so, then we have begun to seek the sacred in our life. A life filled with meaning and purpose. Our divinity, wherein we reach to our highest potential as human beings. As French philosopher Pierre Teilhard de Chardin so famously wrote: “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” We are here, now, breathing freely as an expression of the lifeblood of everything in this universe to which we are connected. A unique, living embodiment of something much greater. Something endlessly creative. Something arguably nothing less than Divine.

As we open ourselves up, safely, to the unifying experiences of exploring a more contemplative life, we cross a sacred bridge, into a world where confidence in our right-mindedness blossoms like a field of spring flowers where we begin to walk along our most meaningful path with full vision to life’s infinite possibilities. Crossing this bridge is a mystical experience all of its own, where we discover that, one step at a time nothing is frightening or overwhelming. Where our self-limiting thoughts release into the ether, and our confidence in the Divine within us grows, grounded in a powerfully-rooted, often intoxicating love for humanity, and for the wonder in the world around us. If you’ve found yourself with his book in your hands, make no mistake… it is here because it was meant to be here. You are being called to a higher purpose. One of the main ways we cultivate and nurture this calling is through contemplative practice. These practices guide us on to better ways of living a humane, authentically human experience. We know we must contemplative practices and discover more about a transformative Journey. Meditation is first and foremost a mainstay practice in the contemplative traditions, if not since the dawn of man, then for a very long time. Findings suggest that prehistoric cultures and religions often practiced a kind of repetitive chanting in order to bring a focused result in thinking. This has evolved over time in a direct way to become what we know today as either chants, or mantras… still an oral tradition (more on that in another section). Some of the earliest written records of meditation come from the Hindu traditions of Vedantism, in around 1500 BCE. Much later, in around the 6th to 5th centuries BCE, other forms of meditation developed in both Taoist China and Buddhist India. Through the centuries, meditation has become an integral part of all of the world’s great wisdom paths… Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, and Judaism alike, with varying approaches to its practice, but with remarkably similar intent.

Fundamentally, spiritual transformation is a desired change in ones sacred or spiritual relationship to life. Psychologically, human beings have an inner pulse that wants to understand its place in the world. We are better humans when we connect ourselves to something greater or wiser than we understand ourselves to be. We feel we are better served in our life if we find a sense of meaning and motivating purpose for ourselves. In pursuit of that connection, we seek out answers to the big questions in our lives. Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going? These seem at first blush almost unanswerable, but if we have a willingness to examine who we are in the moment, the answers can come easily… by looking within to our mind, our body, and our spirit. Our mind represents the flow of information through our nervous system. This includes all the information we process, moment by moment. Our body is the vessel that holds all of our dreams, our aspirations, our past, our present, and our hopes for the future… a manifest reflection of the state of all of the dimensions of our health, for better, or for worse. Our spirit animates us (the body and mind). Spirit is often used metaphysically to refer to our consciousness. It comes from the Latin word “spiritus,” meaning “breath.” You speak of the season’s of the soul and refer to an awakening as we live our lives and experience many different emotions. You may have come across the phrase “seasons of the soul.” If you have, it’s likely that what you found was a broad reference to the process of our aging, passing through the seasons of our life. You may even have heard the reference being made in the classic song “It Was A Very Good Year,” written in the 1960s by Ervin Drake, and made famous by Frank Sinatra, as a man, now growing older, reflects on the seasons of his life:

When I was seventeen, it was a very good year. It was a very good year for small town girls and soft summer nights. We’d hide from the lights on the village green. When I was seventeen. When I was twenty-one, it was a very good year. It was a very good year for city girls who lived up the stairs. With perfumed hair that came undone. When I was twenty-one. Then I was thirty-five, it was a very good year. It was a very good year for blue-blooded girls of independent means. We’d ride in limousines, their chauffeurs would drive. When I was thirty-five But now the days grow short, I’m in the autumn of the year And now I think of my life as vintage wine from fine old kegs. From the brim to the dregs, it poured sweet and clear. It was a very good year. You’ll also find this type of reference in a variety of literature attributed to the world’s great wisdom paths. One example where the concept is most deeply engrained comes from the Hindu tradition, which suggests that at different stages of our life, there are four things that we really want:

    1. Pleasure – seeking personal happiness and attending to your needs
    2. Success – enhancing your happiness through acquisition of wealth, Fame, and power
    3. Renunciation – searching for meaning and value
    4. Duty – helping others. You can easily see the seasons of a life play out in this as well.

The seasons of our life are the broadly brushed seasons of our soul. Of course, we physically go through the seasons of our Mother Earth many times in our lifetime. But it is very much the same with our soul. Consider … There are times when we need to be alone. To quiet the mind and listen for our highest voice… our greatest purpose. By any other name, this is soul-searching, where we unplug and go inward for our answers. This is Autumn, our time of centering. There are times when we need to cleanse. To let go of anything which does not serve: people, thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes that have begun to get in our way. Once we have centered ourselves by quieting our minds, we can then begin to take inventory of what’s inside and releasing whatever no longer serves. This is the classically barren season of Winter… a time of emptying. There are times when we need to grow into our mind. To hear our creative voice, to listen to our intuition, and to trust our mind. This is a time to let go of ego, and connect with something higher, more personal. To prepare to simply receive, without judgment, the creativity that surrounds us, and which will feed us if we let it! Where we can experience a relaxed receptivity to the Divine in each of us. This is where we can ask ourselves the big questions, like: “Who Am I?” and “Why Am I Here?” This is Spring… a time for grounding. These traditions we have discussed and the quest for a spiritual path have taken such deep root in human civilization.

In a nutshell, our quest for clarity. Our quest for calm. And in achieving that, an increased opportunity to live life more fully. To be present in the moment. To rid ourselves of the constant distractions which we self-present… that tendency we commonly refer to as “monkey mind.” This term came from no other than the Buddha himself, who described the mind as being filled with drunken monkeys, jumping around, screeching, chattering, carrying on endlessly. “We all have monkey minds,” Buddha said, “with dozens of monkeys all clamoring for attention. Fear is an especially loud monkey, sounding the alarm incessantly, pointing out all the things we should be wary of and everything that could go wrong.” And so, Buddha, along with other mystics and contemplatives like Confucious and Lao Tzu, came upon the power of calming and quieting the mind. Rev Constance Mc Clain has helped us to follow a journey of awakening with the use of transformative tools such as meditation and in a delightfully clear concise and wonderfully creative look at that process in her book Mindful Path captures your mind and heart to open. The self-investigative process and journey of the soul has intrigued seekers from the beginning of time: now in the age of technology we have an even greater need to explore and refine the energy of our Universal Source within, as we discover once again the truth of our divine and physical aspects and the eternal force of life and creation. In summarizing today’s episode of “Healing From Within” we have explored the contemplative means to go within and to recognize the personal power and wisdom of our soul and its connection to the Universal Source of life as well as our interconnectedness through the seasons of the soul in a physical life. We have discovered the beauty of the calm and peaceful methods: meditation prayer moving past the chatter of the world and finding peace within the alignment to nature man and the divine. We have seen through the words and stories of age old seekers such as Buddha and others that at some point in our lives most of us will want to know who we are, and how to make the most of the time we have in this present incarnation. Whenever you awaken to the beauty of your inner voice and the song that brings you the most joyful remembrance that you are a spirit of eternal life living a physical adventure, know that that will be the right time for you to begin to live and breathe the beauty of the Universe and feel free. Rev. Mc Clain wrote “And now… a few thoughts from the Dalai Lama on meditation: “Generally speaking, our mind is predominantly directed towards external objects. Our attention follows after the sense experiences. It remains at a predominantly sensory and conceptual level. In other words, normally our awareness is directed towards physical sensory experiences and mental concepts. But in this exercise, what you should do is withdraw your mind inward; don’t let it chase after or pay attention to sensory objects. At the same time, don’t allow it to be so totally withdrawn that there is a kind of dullness or lack of mindfulness. You should maintain a very full state of alertness and mindfulness, and then try to see the natural state of your consciousness — a state in which your consciousness is not afflicted by thoughts of the past, the things that have happened, your memories and remembrances; nor is it afflicted by thoughts of the future, like your future plans, anticipations, fears, and hopes. But rather, try to remain in a natural and neutral state.” Rev. Constance McClain Rev. James Walker and Sheryl would have you know that as we all in these challenging changing times opening to the guidance and love of Spirit and the energy of life as we walk the mindful path, the opportunity for greater awareness and higher consciousness is allowing us to make choices..Please make the choice to be well, to be happy, and to be grateful, for this divine time in the history of the soul.

Welcome to Healing From Within. I am your host Sheryl Glick author of Life Is No Coincidence, The Living Spirit and my soon to be released third book in the trilogy A New Life Awaits Spirit Guided Insights to Support Global Awakening which share stories of intuition Higher Self and our dual nature as spiritual beings having a physical life. I am delighted to welcome Jo Chun Yan author of The Intuition Journal who will share her consciously designed guide to increase clarity, deepen your spiritual journey, and encourage a theme of transformation.

As listeners of “Healing From Within” have come to expect over the years my guests and I share intimate stories of awakening, Higher Consciousness Intuition and spiritual gifts that allow us to learn more about the true purpose of our physical lives and how to use inner guidance for self-investigation to master our emotions and to create a purposeful joyful life experience.

In today’s episode Jo Chun Yan will share ways to recognize intuitive messages knowing when it’s fear or instinct that is speaking to you and share key questions you might use to help you with life changing decisions, so that you make better choices and perhaps six tell tale ego signs as well as show us how to expand our comfort zone to allow more space for inner growth. We might also learn how to release habits that are no longer serving us and more beyond childhood programing.

When Jo Chun is asked to think back to their childhood or earlier days and remember a person place or event that might have shown them the lifestyle work or interests they might pursue as an adult Jo Chun tells us she always knew there was a greater force around her and her parents were very creative and encouraged her to use imagination and creativity to share her joy in living well.

Jo tells us something about the book herself and the inspiration behind The Intuition Journal.

An Author/designer Jo Chun Yan is a trained intuition coach, dedicated to helping people explore the art of listening to their inner wisdom setting powerfully aligned goals and taking transformation action. Following her own intuition has changed everything for her—it ignited her spirit. Since then she has carved out invaluable space to embrace intuition in her everyday life. She consciously weaves it into every aspect of her work so that it connects to people on an energetic level. Jo has cultivated a loyal, engaged social media following. She is based in Melbourne, Australia

Jo tells us in an artful and charming way what’s different about her book and why journaling is so vital to the process of awakening and discovering your intuition and how to incorporate it into your everyday life for greater success.

    Moving through the four phases

Phase One Preparing Sacred Ground Creating a stable and nourishing foundation for your intuitive intentions and insights.

Phase Two Nurturing the Seedling Moving through moments with curiosity and joy, and removing obstacles that inhibit you from connecting to your intuition.

Phase Three Navigating Deep Growth Working through the ego and fear that holds you back from connecting to your higher self.

Phase Four Living in Full Flourish Committing to strengthening your energy to hold space for even deeper inner work.

This journal is presented in four sections, or phases. Each phase runs for 13 weeks, covering a different stage of emotional and spiritual growth as you develop your intuition over a year.

These four phases echo the natural growth cycle of a seed evolving into a plant or tree. A tiny seed is planted in fertile ground. As it is nourished by nutrients in the soil, its roots anchor down to create a strong foundation, and it sprouts through the earth. The seedling makes its way upwards, leaves opening to catch the sunlight and buds forming. It extends its branches and eventually evolves into a fully grown plant or tree – abundant in fruit and flourishing flowers.

By using this journal each day, you will nurture your intuition in the same way – so that your inner growth and transformation can bring your dreams, intentions and visions to life.

Jo and Sheryl share information about the way intuition works through the different types of messages received in a sensory way from clairvoyance to clairaudience and how someone would know which one they are? Is this gift of intuition available to everyone.

Sheryl says as an intuitive energy practitioner and medium she simply assumed she was always sensing feeling and knowing things but just chalked it up to intelligence and a good education. It wasn’t until 26 years ago that she had a dream while very ill with the flu and her grandfather presented himself in energy form. In her thoughts he told her she had to write something for her father. The next day Sheryl received a phone call from her mom telling her that her father had passed. Sheryl wrote his eulogy, but the feeling of that energy created a series of coincidences synchronicity that led her to explore the nature of physical and spiritual life discovering through science and spirituality our intimate connection to everyone everything and Universal Source. While Sheryl was always sensitive to people places and events and now knowing she was always an empath feeling deeply and wanting to help others she did not understand the importance of working with intuition and inner guidance connected to Spirit. tapping into your intuition and trusting your deeper feelings beyond your logical mind.

We are all born with intuition and we all have the ability to refine this skill, just like any other innate talent, throughout our lives.

Most people receive intuition through a primary sense that can be called a “clair” sense. You may only have heard this term in the context of psychics and clairvoyants, but if you have ever noticed the feeling change in a room after an argument or sensed the emotion in the text of a letter, you are using your clair senses. To identify your strongest clair sense(s), tick the boxes that best apply to you below. Keep the results of this assessment in mind as you move through the journal, looking for intuitive insights.

Jo clearly explains how intuition can help us understand anxious and fearful thoughts.

Intuition is your innate inner knowing. As a trained intuition coach, I like to think of it as the wise, guiding voice within that tells us to chase after our wildest dreams – whether to move halfway around the world, start that creative business you’ve been drawn toward for so long, or just live each day with more simplicity.

You have probably felt that inner nudge or spark that accompanies a stroke of intuition. It may be experienced as a feeling, an energy or a moment of inspired insight. But at its core, tuning into your intuition is simply the act of listening to your body and the whispers of your heart, which is what this journal is designed to help you do. How do you know when your intuition is speaking to you? People sense and experience their intuition in different ways. For some, it might come through as a gentle guiding voice; for others, an inspiring vision. Use the exercise on the following page to get to know how best to recognize intuitive insights in your own life. Learning to listen to a healthy balance of both your heart (intuition) and your head (rationality and logic) will serve you well.

The purpose of this journal offered in The Intuition Guideurnal has been created as a dedicated place for you to tune into, develop and act on your intuition by cultivating space and stillness between your thoughts. Writing in it daily means making a commitment to knowing yourself better and to allowing your innate wisdom to emerge with more clarity. I hope you enjoy the journey of perspective shifts and inner growth that it takes you on – so that you can love and appreciate your life even more than you do already

Some key grounding practices in the book are presented below:

Practice by design, readers are called upon to explore a Daily Intuition Ritual, set their intention and commit to an Intuitive Action for the week. The opposing interdependence forces of Yin and Yang energy are woven throughout to create a sense of balance and flow and are used as grounding principles for the seasons and exercises. Structure and discipline (Yang) has been created to hold space for intuition (Yin) to flow

In Nature Gardening and tending to vegetables Forest bathing or simply sitting at the foot of a tree Walking barefoot or wearing footwear made from natural materials Visualizing your heartbeat connecting to the pulse of the earth

Body-based Practices Taking an earthing bath with a generous cup of Epsom salts Spending time at a hot spring Massaging your back, legs and feet Doing yoga poses such as Child’s Pose, Triangle Pose and Mountain Pose At Home Bringing earth elements into your home, such as terracotta and stone Cooking with root vegetables, such as beet, pumpkin, potato and carrot Using grounding spices and herbs, such as rosemary, ginger and clove Sleeping on a futon and sitting on the floor instead of a chair.

Other Grounding Practices Playing with clay or making pottery Bringing crystals such as jasper, garnet or bloodstone into your home Using essential oils such as vetiver, copaiba, sandalwood and cedarwood Attending a sacred cacao ceremo

The best way of connecting to your inner child is to develop a safe and productive place with the right mixture of people work and leisure activities. The metaphor for this state you can create is…..A new beginning comes from the planting of a single seed in fertile ground. Within this seed lies all the potential for new life and growth.

In order for a seed to sprout into a seedling and then develop into a plant, it must be nourished by good soil. If the ground is not rich in nutrients, the seed will struggle to sprout. If the ground is not firm, it will not provide a strong foundation for the roots to anchor into as the plant grows. This is also true when it comes to developing your intuition.

Over the next 13 weeks we will prepare the ground for you – making it feel stable, nourishing and sacred. In this safe, anchored sanctuary you will be able to connect with your inner knowing and use this to nurture your heart- led intentions and wildest dreams.

Developing our intuition is so integral to a more fulfilling life?

Daily intuition practice is considered to be an integral skill for creativity relationships, communication, problem solving and leadership.

    Benefits include:

    1. Self-trust and authentic decision-making
    2. Self-acceptance and the shedding of old habits and limiting beliefs
    3. Deepened intuitive skills and heightened creativity
    4. Learning to balance strength and work with your energy

Stress reduction and connecting back to the body

It is important to step out of one’s comfort zone to reach your full human and spiritual potential. Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey and Nicolas Tesla are among the many high profile people who have recognized intuition as a key factor in the success of their life

According to ancient Indian tradition, the energy center between the brows – known as the third-eye chakra (or ajna chakra in Sanskrit) – is associated with inner vision and wisdom. Bringing this into energetic balance will cultivate a stronger sense of intuition and connection to self.

Ways To bring into balance Nourish yourself with purple foods (the colour associated with the third-eye chakra), such as figs, aubergine (eggplant), plums, blueberries, blackberries, purple grapes, plus cacao for mental clarity.

Connect with nature by spending time in the sun, moonlight bathing or star gazing. ∆ Practice self-awareness by observing your thoughts, tracking any visualizations and keeping a dream journal.

Practice meditation and yoga poses such as Child’s Pose and Standing Half-forward Bend.

Three things you need to develop your intuition

Firm Foundation The discipline of regular practice creates a grounded, structured, sacred container for your intuition to grow in. When you feel safe, centered and anchored, you have the freedom to rise above distracting mind chatter and gut-instinct survival reactions.

Lack of Obstacles Recognizing and releasing old beliefs and habits that are not in alignment with your higher purpose helps to remove the emotional obstacles preventing you from being able to tune into your intuition, like a plant being blocked from catching the sunlight that it needs to grow.

Strong Connection to the Self Doing regular self-enquiry work to cultivate a deeper understanding of yourself and the energy around you helps you to create a strong channel for receiving your intuition more clearly.

We thank you Jo Chun Yan author of The Intuition Journal for offering a practical approach to begin to become aware of your spiritual gift of intuition which we all have and when discovered enhanced and used regularly can improve all aspects of your physical and spiritual development. www.jochunyan.com

In summarizing today’s episode of” Healing From Within” we have explored the world of intuition or inner guidance dealing with a connection to Universal energy and the awareness that we are indeed more than our body and can gather so much information about ourselves and others through this inner sense of guidance or wisdom. When we act from a place that feels deeply aligned with our core values life plan or destiny we move through life with greater ease purpose and contentment developing our interests and talents serving others and making a positive impact on the world and those around us. What is intrinsically best for this lifetime will keep nudging us, calling us to our destiny, and in paying attention to these nudges will ultimately prove to be rewarding and help us know success on so many levels.

Jo Chun and I would have you begin to pay attention to your dreams and thoughts and what seems to be reappearing in your daily experiences either by coincidence or synchronicity, as it is simply the Universal Source, the Divine or God which ever your cultural or familial training offers you but it is guidance and love offered to help you navigate and succeed in your fondest dreams and to live life joyfully and purposefully. There is a divine plan for each of us, and for the world, and intuition is the key to discovering who you truly are.

  • Energy Medicine Yoga and Health Care System

Welcome to “Healing From Within” I am your host Sheryl Glick Reiki Master Energy practitioner medium and author of Life Is No Coincidence and also The Living Spirit which share stories of spiritual awakening spiritual communication healing energies miracles and ways to heighten your intuition for manifesting a better quality of health and life prosperity and am delighted to welcome Lauren Walker author of Energy Medicine Yoga for if you want to affect the physical matter that is your body, as well as the invisible matter that is your mind and soul, the most effective practice you can learn is how to work with your own energy. Her Energy Medicine Yoga practice offers you a solution oriented manual to complement any health regime—one filled with essential insights for well –being to activate your body’s natural healing intelligence and a powerful new vision for happiness and wholeness.

As listeners of the show are well aware Sheryl and her guests share intimate experiences and insights into the metaphysical world of energy experience and Universal Laws in order to more accurately understand how a spiritual being living a physical life can utilize all talents and abilities and manifest the best version of what they need to live successfully. It is by recognizing through self-investigation and self-mastery of our emotions that we have the ability to leave fears traumas blockages of thought and energy behind and awaken to a state of wholeness and joy.

In today’s episode of “Healing From Within” will help us uncover the root cause of specific physical emotional and psychological health complaints along with a treasury of potent self-care practices to accelerate healing. We will discuss the Five Elements System and three important Ayurvedic techniques to change your life.

When Lauren is asked to think back to her childhood and remember a person place or event that may have signaled to her or others the life path work or lifestyle she one day would live she tells us losing her maternal grandmother and others when she was quite young made her wish to make people healthy and live long lives. Her love for life and people made her study the body mind and soul so she could bring the many pieces of healing to herself and others

Energy medicine yoga is a combination of many energy healing modalities and as such works on the various levels of our multidimensional life force. Sheryl loves one of the endorsement quotes Lauren received which read, “As a professional athlete, I deal with a lot of pressure and nerves. The Energy Medicine Yoga Prescription has helped me realize how important it is to clear my energy field. We as human-spiritual beings have to take the time to clear our aura and energy field so we can radiate light and be a loving force.” JAMIE ANDERSON Olympic gold medal snowboarder; yogi; activist

Another endorsement gives a clear example of what is discussed in her book “Drawing on insights from the Chinese Five Elements theory and the Vedic systems of yoga and Ayurveda, The Energy Medicine Yoga Prescription offers an interesting perspective on self-care. It will help you think in a different way about bringing health and balance into your life.” GARY KRAFTSOW founder of the American Viniyoga Institute

Energy medicine might be described ways designed to move energy through the body and the chakras or energy vortexes of the body which channel Universal Energy around and within us for greater aliveness and well-being. Both are based on ancient, tried-and-true methods. Lauren Walker has done a great job of charting Five Elements Theory, yoga, the meridian system, and many other wonderful tools to enter the state of union that yoga is all about We discover that combining Energy Medicine with Yoga is a guide for the person who wants to increase their health and vitality and knows that the most effective path is one that combines physical, intellectual, and spiritual dimensions. The secret sauce to that outcome is through the energy system of the body, and Lauren Walker offers a multitude of easy-to-apply methods to affect that system through breath, diet, tapping, movement, gratitude, self-compassion, and much more.”

Energy Medicine Yoga — the marriage of Energy Medicine with a tantra- based yoga practice — has the same possibility and the same parallel. We come to our yoga mat day after day, hour after hour. Our energy, like the snow, is also changeable; every day it’s different. But we do the same moves again and again. There isn’t anywhere to get to. There’s no prize at the end for the most downward dogs. It is simply the moment that is sublime. It is like coming home to a feeling of goodness in our own bodies. This is the important part: We need to feel good in our lives and in our bodies just as we are right now. We need to know how to self-soothe and how to heal. It is important to have tools and skills to help us manage our emotions so we can balance and find harmony no matter what challenges occur. So many of us go for the outside stimuli of drugs, alcohol, shopping, sugar, or sex when we’re uncomfortable bored or tired. If we’re sick, we go for outside cures: pills surgery radiation. But we must learn how to simply and effectively take care of ourselves from the inside to be healthy and happy.

Lauren describes life in terms of being a skier and adjusting to the mountain and life and writes, “We can take a look at this metaphor. Once you go off into your life, you become the skier on the mountain. You are now taking these energy systems with you because they are you, and they are constantly changing. Being the mountain, you must come into stillness, calm, and solidity, having your energy work to help you ground and center. Being the skier, you must come into movement, the flow of life and experiences, and have your energy maintain its balancing work, no matter what is going on. Each of us is really a moving ball of energy, fields and lines, vortexes and swirls, all zooming around our central core, and we’re moving through the world, which is full of millions of similar but different energy systems all zooming around. We tend to see these energy systems and ourselves as fixed figures. But really we are just zooming bits of information and light. It’s all very Jetsony, except its invisible and its real. In this book, you’re going to learn how to be the skier — how to be the energetic structure, how to master the art of moving through the constantly changing world without falling down, ejecting from both of your skis, losing your hat, mittens, goggles, and poles — what is called in ski language a “yard sale!” Another ski phrase that is helpful is this: it’s all about the recovery! Sometimes what the mountain throws at you — what life throws at you — is too much to handle. How you negotiate and recover from it is essential to maintaining your health and sanity.”

We can derive many benefits from Energy Medicine yoga. People who understand who they are as energy or spiritual beings having a physical life and who can merge the aspects of heart intuitive guidance and ego or mind based personality awareness can ultimately be fit in mind body and spirit. The benefits from knowing this which may be experienced before or during energy medicine yoga are immense to the well being and personal development of the knowingness that comes from this awareness. In yoga, we are constantly uniting opposites: yin and yang, extension and contraction, the individual soul and the eternal Soul. Because we are both the physical structure and the energetic structure, we must be able to affect change on both of these levels.

It isn’t an either-or proposition, as this book will show, but both. We are both the physical structure and the energetic structure. Neither is more important, but the energetic structure is often ignored for lack of information, knowledge, or tools to access it. The goal is to be both the mountain and the skier. As the mountain, you have your underlying energy systems working at their best. As the skier, you navigate your life and are able to handle anything it throws at you. You can recover and thrive no matter what comes your way by understanding how to work with energy in motion.

With the EM practice, we are guiding the energy in the directions it wants and needs to flow. With the repetition of the combined practices of EM and yoga, we help the energy to re-pattern and remain in these new, beneficial flows. The EM student gets the physical benefits of moving and opening the body. The yoga student gets the awareness of how and where to move energy. Putting the practices together, we get a healing paradigm that offers results that seem magical. Once your energy is working for and with you, almost anything is possible.

Teachers and students who have practiced yoga for years suddenly start shifting things that were stuck. Chronic pain, digestive complaints, depression, relationship struggles, hopelessness, pulled muscles, sleep disorders, indecision — these are just some of the issues that get resolved by students who have often tried every other kind of alternative practice with no result.

EM Yoga is a tantra-based practice. The Sanskrit word tantra means to weave and to stretch toward. More broadly it also refers to systematic techniques for achieving a particular outcome. The yoga part of EMYoga is grounded in a practice with emphasis on various techniques to help you accept your innate perfection and from there transform into, or stretch toward, becoming your best self. When Lauren first started studying tantra yoga, she was amazed at all the things involved that seemed to have nothing to do with my idea of “yoga” — things like Vedic astrology, gemology, and aromatherapy, as well as things like gratitude, journaling, and rituals. But has come to understand the deeper meaning and power of yoga, it all makes perfect sense. If we want to reach the goal of ultimate union with ourselves, and with the divine, we need to master more than just the physical body.

In EMYoga you’ll learn asana practices (physical postures) that incorporate poses and moves to access your underlying energy. Some of the poses look similar to yoga poses you may already be familiar with. Others will be complete departures from standard yoga and are used to influence specific flows of energy. You’ll use the electromagnetic energy of your own body, often with your hands, to affect the energy in your body — sort of like those old Wooly Willy games where you pull the magnet around to draw features on a face with iron filings.

EM yoga is both relaxing and a workout and helps to learn about the chakra system and the Five Element Healing system of water earth air wood and fire

A description of chakra personalities is included in this quick rundown of the personalities of the chakras:

    • The first chakra (muladhara) carries energies related to family, tribe, security, and sexuality.
    • The second chakra (swadhisthana) carries energies of creativity, innocence, joy, and sexuality.
    • The third chakra (manipura) carries energies of ego, our personal identity, and our sense of power in ourselves and in the world.
    • The fourth chakra (anahatha) carries energies of love — our ability both to receive and give love.
    • The fifth chakra (vishuddha) carries energies of communication and expression.
    • The sixth chakra (ajna) carries energies of intuition, insight, and vision, as well as our connection to our own inner world.
    • The seventh chakra (sahasrara) carries energies of our connection to the larger world and to the cosmos or the divine.

Along with knowledge of our chakras and the five elements diet is an important issue to attend to. THREE MEALS A DAY, NO SNACKS Diet is a central tenet of Ayurvedic healing. Not only what you eat, but when and how. This simple Ayurvedic philosophy helps weight loss, digestive issues, depression, balances blood sugar, and reduces cravings. It also helps people come into their natural best weight. It is remarkably easy, yet at the same time, in this day and age of constant eating, it can be very challenging to practice.

Feeling is a primary sensor of a healthy diet. It doesn’t matter what you look like, it matters how you feel. Are you flexible and strong? Do you have resiliency? Can you get sick and then get well? Are you strong enough to accomplish the task at hand? How do you feel? The food you eat is what makes you. It literally becomes you. But when we talk about diet, we so often just mean how much we eat or don’t eat. Food is nurturing and satisfies our basic urges. It is the connective tissue of our families. It ties us back to our ancestors. It is also a mainstay of social interactions. But this is not always a positive thing. And many of us struggle with eating as a result of how we ate growing up.

There is a lot of wisdom (five thousand years!) in the Ayurvedic eating styles. There are many wonderful and easy books that share this wisdom. Among Lauren’s favorites are Dr. John Douillard’s “Body, Mind & Sport” and Deepak Chopra’s “Perfect Health.” One of the simplest pieces of that wisdom you can follow without reading another diet book is this: eat seasonally. The seasons bring forth the foods we need when we need them. Spring shoots help cleanse the body from the heaviness of winter. Summer berries give us major antioxidants. Fall roots help us nourish and ground as we go into the long winter. It goes on . . . the wisdom of the seasons is once again in play for us.

Energy Medicine Yoga differs from many styles of yoga as it is the combined awareness of metaphysics science and study and the power and comprehensive practices of EMYoga incorporate pranayama (breathing practices), meditation, visualization, journaling, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) tapping, nutrition, diet, body image, and belief systems. The beauty of energy work is that it translates into every facet of your life — from what, how, and when you eat to how you think and how you feel about your body, mind, and life. It only starts on the mat. EM Yoga touches every area of your life because energy touches every area of your life.

Sheryl who is a Reiki Master Teacher and medium shares her awakening process over twenty five years ago when she was told during her first spiritual psychic reading which was a gift to her that she would begin her intuitive journey with yoga..Really? I said quite doubtful. But, a week later Sheryl’s hairdresser Anna said she had a free coupon to her yoga class in town and because Sheryl had been told she would take yoga classes she immediately said, “Yes.” That was the way Sheryl began to feel her energy flow awaken my healing process and move beyond belief systems that I had held tightly for all my life. Soon I was guided to Reiki Energy Healing and developed my ability to connect at a higher level to Spirit and download information to help people know their spiritual soul essence. It all led to a metaphysical study of energy and knowing life beyond the physical body and to the interconnected unity of all souls and life.

How we truly feel about ourselves must be considered when we talk about healing. Lauren has a chapter all about the fruition of the EM Yoga practice, which leads us to a place of deep intimacy, respect, and love for ourselves. From that place of love and acceptance, change can flow. But first is the place of being with what is. Many of us have what Pema Chödrön calls a “subtle aggression” against ourselves. Unfortunately, our desire for change or transformation often comes from there. But that never works.

Transformation begins on its own from deep inside us, when we love ourselves now, just as we are.

This is the magic of EMYoga. The way out is in. This may seem paradoxical, that in order to change, we have to accept what is. This is another example of both-and. We can change, but first we must accept what is, embrace what is, and allow ourselves to be okay in this moment now. Well most definitely if people begin to understand how important their mind and thoughts and actions are in creating from within themselves their reality and quality of life and can stop putting so much emphasis on the outer world and other people’s expectations for them, they can begin to know the truth of the Universal Law of Attraction and Karma and can begin to influence their health, relationships and all aspects of their daily life in the direction that brings happiness and prosperity to them.

The following quote shows you this idea quite truthfully. Your thoughts and beliefs are the single most important indicator of your state of health. . . . Your beliefs and thoughts are wired into your biology. They become your cells, tissues, and organs. There’s no supplement, no diet, no medicine, and no exercise regimen that can compare with the power of your thoughts and beliefs. That’s the very first place you need to look when anything goes wrong with your body. CHRISTIANE NORTHRUP, MD Goddesses Never Age

Yet here is the single most important thing to understand: it is the energy that needs to heal first. Only then can everything else heal. All successful medical interventions and psychotherapies work at the energetic level, intentionally or unwittingly, along with whatever they are consciously targeting. Shifting the energies is the most direct way of targeting a problem. So even if you can’t see energy, this book will teach you how to sense it, work with it, understand it, change it, and align with it.

You say that emotions play a vital role in the health of an individual stifling them or expressing them (moving them) EM Yoga work directly with emotions and works with them affecting the overall well-being of the physical body. Everything in the universe is energy vibrating at different frequencies. If you want to affect the physical matter that is your body and the invisible matter that is your mind and your soul — in the most efficient and powerful way — you must learn how to work with your own personal energy.

Specifically, you will learn how to work with and balance the energy systems that make up your body and that you experience indirectly by their effects. If things in your life are out of whack or if you are experiencing a health crisis of any kind — mental, physical, or spiritual — you are experiencing energy that is out of balance. Even if you are not in crisis but you feel overwhelmed, tired, anxious, melancholy, or rageful, you are experiencing energy that is out of balance. And even if you feel great most of the time but sometimes you feel completely off (depression strikes, you’re going through a period of doubt, or you just broke your leg), your underlying energy at that moment is out of balance.

When you are in balance and flow, your body and mind are working well, synergistically and coherently — meaning the least amount of effort is expended to accomplish all the tasks necessary for living and thriving. You are in resonance with yourself and your life path. You may feel tired after a long bike ride or a long day of work, but you fall asleep easily, your body rebuilds, and the next day you feel good again. If this is not the case, your energy is out of balance.

Yes Energy Medicine Yoga is for everyone. The beautiful and most powerful thing is that working with the energies of the body is quite simple. You don’t have to be able to do a one-armed handstand or sit in a full lotus. If you can breathe, you can do EM Yoga. At the same time, it isn’t a quick fix. This isn’t a pill, a cream, or a tincture. This isn’t chemotherapy, chelation, or reflexology. This is a series of tools, practices, and wisdoms that you can bring into your life to make your life better.

As you continue to practice, day after day, clear goals will lead you up the path of mastery instead of into a rut. I like to remind myself of this with the words of the brilliant musician Prince: “There’s joy in repetition.” The magic and complexity of your body makes your I Phone look like a Fisher Price toy. The body can do things that science still cannot explain, like differentiate cells and heal itself miraculously. But when things go wrong, it can be challenging to know where to look to fix them. For far too long, we looked at the body mechanistically, like a car. We replaced parts. Only recently have we begun to look at the body holistically, understanding that every part affects every other part. Your emotions affect your organs; your organs affect your emotions; your thoughts affect your physiology — everything affects everything else. And underneath all of that, the substrate on which your physical, mental, and emotional being rests is energy. It not only rests in energy, it is energy. You are at one level no more than a vibrating, pulsing wave form that is moving slowly enough to appear solid

Simple practices include: Visualization is one of the tools we’ll use to move energy through the body. Many studies attest to its power. Groups as diverse as elite athletes and people with paralysis use visualization practices with incredible results. My own personal experience of healing with my mind came from Healing Back Pain by John E. Sarno, MD. Sarno links all back pain to undigested anger, and since Lauren started doing the practice he recommended, after years of chiropractic adjustments, she has not had another back issue.

The beautiful thing is, you can rewrite your unconscious programming. This means accessing the unconscious mind and inserting new, positive programs that align with the desires of your conscious mind and many tools such as breathing practices can be helpful.

The reason breathing practices (pranayama) are so important in yoga is that your breath is a direct link between your conscious and unconscious mind, and shifting one shifts the other. Tapping journaling, automatic writing, and vocalizations are other tools for shifting these patterns. EM Yoga is designed to unite these opposing forces so that you are in true alignment with your soul’s deepest desires, your highest purpose, and your best life

Yes Energy Medicine Yoga can heal disease and maybe even the world when our though processes allow us to allow accept and surrender to the true nature of our being as spiritual beings having a physical life and learning to see feel sense the balance between our inner and outer realities.

Your personal recipe is a prescription to stay healthy as well as for healing if you’re sick. If your life is full of challenges and obstacles, whether physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual, you can use this book to find a recipe to transform your disparate parts into a healthy and balanced whole. Both ancient Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda (the medical arm of yoga) hold the tenet that balance is the holy grail of healing. The body will do its own miraculous healing if its systems are in balance.

As you start to go deeper into this book, especially if you are suffering from an illness, it is vitally important that you understand the difference between “healing” and “curing.” Matthew Sanford, author of the book Waking, is one of the leading teachers of adaptive yoga and is a paraplegic. He responds elegantly about this in an interview with Yoga Digest: “I think that so much of our culture is fixated on healing as a reversal of condition. Anyone who has lived through trauma knows you can never go home. It’s never going to be the same, and that’s okay. I’m never going to walk again — does that mean healing is done for me? Does that mean the only healing possible is for me to have a good attitude about being paralyzed? Absolutely not! What yoga creates is the conditions for people to heal in unexpected ways if they can just look beyond healing as curing.”

It is sometimes impossible to understand the path of your life, especially when it takes an unexpected turn toward illness, disease, trauma, or loss. You cast about for answers, build stories to explain your new life, and move forward as best you can.

After reading Energy Medicine Yoga you might remember that Once you tap into your energy systems, cultivating a daily practice with consistency and devotion is the most important thing you can do to live healthfully and heal disease. It isn’t what you do every once in a while that can harm or heal; it is what you do most of the time. And that is true with your energy systems as well. Energy moves in patterns, has memory, and evolves which can help keep you stuck or help release you. But release only happens when you start to consistently introduce and practice new energy patterns.

Another thing Lauren suggests is to use your journal for “doodling.” Drawing connects the hemispheres of your brain and creates new neural links. You can doodle figure eights to increase them in your fields (the most powerful pattern to have in your fields). Doodling shifts you out of linear thinking into the quantum realm — the place you make real leaps in terms of change. It is these leaps that are called “miracles” or “magic.” It is connecting with Einstein’s “spooky action at a distance” — and it is not only attainable, it is learnable and replicable.

Sheryl shares a coincidence with Lauren and tells her she recently did a reading on herself and asked if one of her guides would come forward and answer some questions. One of the impressions Sheryl saw was that of a girl moving a baton in the figure eight position and marching to music and the message said, “Practice the rhythm of the baton and marching in unison with Truth and Music in the Band of Life.” And Sheryl found herself in her mind making that infinity sign and feeling in balance and harmony and peace. It was only days later that while reading Lauren’s book that Sheryl noticed the same sign and it was suggested it was an important sign for establishing health and balance. The infinity sign in Sheryl’s Reiki practice is the sign of love.

In summarizing today’s episode of “Healing From Within” we have discovered that we have a way for the body to heal from core traumas and illness often a result of our earlier childhood training and thinking and developing a fear of some possible reality. We often learn when we change our thoughts and emotions pursing a more positive spiritual plan for feeling well being joyful and positive, the body responds to this reprogramming and retraining process. It is possible and advantageous to work with yoga in a group dynamic with others who seek to empower themselves both in health mind and a purposeful lifestyle.

We have seen that we can connect to this universal source of life force energy by becoming still and allowing ourselves to feel the energy move through us and around it and by realizing this source of connection to Higher Self, we actually grow more peaceful. We also may become aware that we are very much more than our bodies and life exists on multiple plans of existence. This is a powerful freeing thought and though one cannot necessarily see energy they can certainly begin to feel and know changes in their environment and within themselves.

In the face of unexpected changes in our lives Lauren wrote, “What Energy Medicine Yoga offers in the face of these huge challenges is the ability to slow down, tune in, and understand the body and mind in a different way. Some challenges can be reversed; some diseases and conditions can heal or go dormant. There are many techniques in Energy Medicine Yoga that can help you transform the despair of your challenge into acceptance and understanding so that you can thrive in your life, instead of just survive. It’s also important to understand that nothing is going to take away the experience you’ve undergone. But that doesn’t mean that healing isn’t an option. There are many ways to heal and many ways to live your life that are sometimes different from what you’d planned or hoped for. This resiliency is in fact a huge part of healing.”

Lauren and I would ask you to try a healing energy session or go for a EMYoga class to begin to know yourself intimately and find a way to rest in the energy of eternal soul life which ultimately helps you relax in the physical world and to accept allow and surrender to your challenges often making it possible to move past them with courage and infinite success.

As listeners of Healing from Within well know Sheryl and her guests
share intimate stories of awakening, recovering and exploring all
aspects of our full multi-dimensional possibilities for creating and
living our most purposeful and joyful life experience learning to use
the many spiritual tools of our inner soul wisdom. It is in the
remembrance of our deep connection to Universal Source and energy and
how to merge this part of life with our mind-based ego reality
    physical world.

In today’s episode of Healing From Within Nikki Gresham Record will
share with us how to transform unhelpful beliefs through the clearing
of the chakras which metaphysically are the wheels of light that
connect us to the energy all around us and within us which are the
true essence of our life force and connect to the issues we face in
our daily physical life experiences. When the chakras are clear and
healthy, we are able to raise our vibration to higher thinking for
greater health prosperity and happiness. In finding ways to eliminate
unhealthy beliefs and energies in our chakra system that take root in
our subconscious or soul-based energy we are able to clear dysfunction
and return to a state of well-being.

When Nikki is asked to remember her childhood and any issues that may
have contributed to her lifestyle as an adult, she tells us the
constantly felt aches and pains and were eventually diagnosed as
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus a serious autoimmune disease which she
had for 18-19 years. She goes on to tell us that her spiritual
awakening began when she hit rock bottom and had been unable to
breathe properly for a few weeks with inflammation. At the time she
had a 16-week-old baby and a 19-month-old toddler and desperate she
called out to a higher force repeating, “I open myself to the healing
energies of the universe. She had her first experience of energy or
spiritual healing and became curious about the mind body and spirit
connection. It was a five-year journey of healing to a full recovery
which led Nikki to surrender to her full spiritual awakening—a
three-hour emergence into a higher state of blissful pure loving
consciousness. Nikki has had many experiences but it was there beyond
all doubt that she knew she was connected to the infinite source of
Love which she devoted herself to in that moment and decided to be of
    service to.

Sheryl says to Nikki that she thinks those like us born as Indigo
Children or Change Makers and as empaths or sensitives engage with
emotion and feelings at a level that can often make us experience
health challenges as we are taking on the energies and experiences of
those around us and indeed the chaos of the world. When intuitves
healers’ empaths finally understand the metaphysical aspects of soul
potential they learn to manage and utilize their spiritual gifts to
help themselves and others as indeed those in spirit are always
guiding us and are well aware of the challenges, we have taken on in
    this particular life incarnation.

Sheryl wrote in her second book in the trilogy The Living Spirit, “As
a practicing healer medium I am able through the channeling of energy
and messages to help an individual or a group access their own soul
being, leading them to know there is no separation between where we
begin as energy beings and physical beings…As people discover their
own energetic presence, they are able to perceive new thoughts about
long term fears or limitations that have impeded their progress in a
way that allows needed changes to be made…As we learn to feel and
manage our energies and emotions, we increase our abilities to deal in
a more effective way with all life’s experiences.”

Nikki reveals that we all have conditioning, we’re also all part of
the collective consciousness and for a while now, the belief systems
that we have shared have perpetuated our suffering. It’s so important
now at this time of awakening we can align with the new energies
connecting with the earth. Nikki came to realize our beliefs literally
shape our reality and then became passionate through bringing belief
to clients and witnessing the shifts. If we don’t believe healing or
change is possible for example, and subscribe to one version of
reality then that is all we can experience. Belief change is like
opening a door to a new reality.

Sheryl says that Belief Change as well as recognition of who we are as
spiritual beings having a physical life is what is needed now to deal
with the corruption that had created many of the situations leading to
the damage to our living planet and created so many health and mental
health issues and a breakdown of virtue harming good living,
destroying family life for so many and creating ecological and climate
health and mental health problems affecting us globally as well as
instigating a decline in human connectedness and spiritual awareness
of our complex nature as energetic and physical beings. This breakdown
in government, economic, and political structures has led to
dysfunction and corruption and may be the means to help us remember
our higher values and to move beyond greed, jealousy, negative
emotions, feelings and actions and find once again the kind good
beings we truly all are. It truly is a spiritual issue as we have
moved away from knowing the true dual nature of life.

Changing ourselves and realigning to Universal Energy as a complete
spiritual and physical oneness beyond duality and separation that mind
group think has encouraged and past the misconceptions of an ego-based
material-based lifestyle will raise our vibration and that of the
planet. We will begin to see miracles leading to immense progress and
good will and the restoration or creation of new systems that lead to
    positive actions.

Nikki goes on to say when we use the Healing Insight Method, she
proposes we change our awareness of our health and can bring our
personality in line with our inner being. The inner being knows all
that is possible and that we are infinite multi-dimensional beings
playing with life in manifest form. We are creation, truly magical.

There are consequences of people holding onto their beliefs. If we
stay stuck and live with what is giving our personal inner power or
needs away to the collective the old paradigm, we become victims of
the experience rather than creators of it. Many people do not move
beyond, “what is” for fear of losing it all. When we take command of
our own well-being, happiness and so on, by moving beyond other
people’s judgment or concerns we grow, expand and raise our own
    vibration or energy level.

Sheryl says everything changes no matter how hard one tries to hold on
for change, evolution and awakening is the urge of the soul and heart
for which we are eternally programmed. We are programmed for
individual awareness as we strive to come into alignment with “All
that is” and always will be—the Creative Divine force of Universal
Energy and life that is within us and which the chakra system responds
to as it helps heal any past challenges.

When asked what role the chakras play in our beliefs Nikki claims not
to know exactly how it works but as a practitioner is assisting in
releasing blockages of energy thought or constriction and like most
practitioners is able to read energy distortions that may reflect as
pain and pick up information about dysfunction in life experiences
emotions and help clients to perceive new valuable thoughts of
clarity. Each chakra it seems carries an aspect of consciousness or
life connection and responds to various nerves and organs in the
physical body. Limiting or unfulfilled needs may create distortions in
    the energy chakras.

One of the people who have inspired Nikki’s work is Bruce Lipton She
remembers a video which showed how the environment affects our genes
for we are constant receivers of information from the environment.
Nikki loved the concept that he offered that we each have our unique
vibration in order to create white light or refined energy. Nikki
really appreciates the new science along with spirituality by teachers
like Joe Dispensa, David Hamilton. Rupert Sheldon as well as Eckhardt
Tolle. Nikki tells us that her husband was very into the Law of
Attraction when she met him while she was busy working and focusing
on” doing”. He was aligned to love a nice home and family new job
through his asking and being. He was doing a great job working with
the Law of Attraction and the Universe.

Nikki Gresham has developed a unique transformational process called
“Healing Insight.” How does your process work? Nikki tells us it
utilizes the spiritual process of Qigong and principles of
wuji—emptiness. It uses movement, focused intention upon the desired
belief and the process of allowing and acceptance as you activate each
hemisphere of the brain, reprogramming the subconscious mind, so you
release the resistance and realign vibrationally, the beliefs. There
is a head and gut procedure, so you end up really going inward,
releasing and becoming a vibrational match to the new belief—aligning
with the inner being and putting us in the flow. We then end up
responding differently, shifting our perceptions, thoughts and
feelings. Nikki also shows us how we can muscle test for confirmation
of the shifts but also to test through the many beliefs to see where
blockages are held in the chakras

Nikki tells us she wrote this book Working with Chakras for Belief
Changes because she is aware that it is time for us to heal on a
massive level as we are awakening and just no longer know how to deal
with things when the pain and stuckness surfaces. People are finally
ready. Nikki knew she had to move beyond time for money and material
    success to reach more people.

This book as indeed all metaphysical books and concepts are for anyone
who is willing to take the time to surrender to the light within and
let go of what is not part of that great wisdom of the soul and
universal source. It’s about disempowerment from the circumstances of
the physical world, the thoughts and control by others to empowerment
and to choosing and creating your own beautiful life.

Sheryl believes that souls are guided to the teacher’s practitioners
and methods that best serve their soul journey at any given time.
Nothing is random and there are many approaches to reach this state of
higher awareness and consciousness so no one ideology or spiritual
method is better than another and all patterns of self-investigation
allows us to master our emotions leading us to peace harmony balance
and the most beautiful lives possible.

The message Nikki would like to share with those who read her new book
is, “You are whole, beautiful you are Light. While we have layers of
conditioning that is not who we are, we’re not our stories, our
illnesses, our past, we’re not who other people tell us we are…and
healing is indeed possible beyond any limitation or challenge. Nikki
suggests to be courageous and to take the reins to start trusting and
steering ourselves in the direction that most serves our life plan and
unique destiny. As we raise our vibration to love we change the
collective consciousness and create more white light and share it with
    all.

We thank Nikki Gresham Record for sharing a beautiful bool with a
clear understanding of our spiritual energy system, the chakras or
wheels of light that support our physical and spiritual life and
connection to Universal Source. Her book is well done artistically
with cards and charts to aid you in mastering your own energy
    awareness.

In summarizing today’s episode of “Healing from Within” we have shared
the lifetime and soul time journey of an amazing dedicated
consistently mindful person’s exploration of life both in spiritual
and in terms of the changes individuals and world communities are
experiencing at the present time in human history.

As we are awakening to the possibilities and probabilities of our
potential as spiritual beings having a physical life we recognize the
ability to create and manifest heaven on earth plays a role in the
unfolding of the Grand Plan of human evolution and though we are all
on different life journey’s it becomes easier to accept that people
perceive life in the way that best serves their destiny and we stop
trying to control them. As a soul healer and soul sister to Nikki and
those of us who have already learned the truth of allowing accepting
and surrendering to all that is both here in the physical realm and
beyond, the words truth healing and living as the loving beings we are
and discovering the courageous souls we have always been are within
our combined energetic and physical form. As empaths Nikki and I know
what one person feels affects us all so it is our calling or choice to
be in alignment with the higher realms of life and creation, as well
as to find ways to better understand the differences and similarities
of all our living brothers and sisters who all yearn to transform
negative fearful feelings to positive joyful and healthy expressions
of life even if they are not yet actively aware of that desire for
    change.

  • Heaven on Earth

Welcome to “Healing From Within” with host Sheryl Glick author of The Living Spirit Answers for Healing And Infinite Love which shares stories of spiritual awakening communication healing energies miracles and shares ways to discover and utilize intuition for greater awareness and a true knowing of Self. Today Sheryl welcomes Martin Rutte to discuss his book and movement Heaven on Earth: what it means? and why so many of us think about ways to improve ourselves the human condition and our world. It seems to be a need or calling from the soul of life.

As listeners of “Healing From Within” know Sheryl and her guests share intimate stories and insights into further understanding the metaphysical aspects of life so we may accommodate our energetic spiritual inner life goals with the ego based physical reality of materialism family and community life expectations while learning to balance and utilize intuition or higher consciousness for a healthier more purposeful life experience. The goal has been and continues for us even if we unaware that perhaps we will discover heaven with ourselves, so we may offer this light into the world thereby creating Heaven on Earth as Spirit has always intended us to do.

In today‘s episode of Healing From Within we will explore the three simple questions that will help you change yourself, the world and easily provides a simple blueprint for you to discover what Heaven on Earth is for you and what simple easy concrete steps you can make in the next 24 hours to begin making Heaven on Earth real. Martin Rutte is the co-author of the New York Times business best seller Chicken Soup for the Soul at Work. He is president of Livelihood a management consulting firm in Santa Fe New Mexico and works with world corporations and addressed the Corporate Leadership and Ethics Forum of Harvard Business School.

When asked to think back to his childhood and remember a person place or event that may have shown him or others the adult life he might like to experience and the interests and passions that would bring him joy Martin writes and describes: “I was born and raised in a lower middle class family of Jewish immigrants in Hamilton Canada My mother was from Poland, my father from the Ukraine. Martin’s native tongue was Yiddish. I learned English on the streets and French and Latin in high school. I learned Hebrew in Hebrew school and a smattering of other languages. I tell you this because I’ve always had an ability to understand and translate between people and world views. This ability helps me perceive the world and thus what’s unique to them as individuals and what’s common to us all as humanity. The emphasis on helping people was on helping them distinguish between their mind ego and the Soul. When you set goals from your physical mind and socialized perception of the world you set your sights on what you believe is possible. When you do the same thing from your Soul from your deep inner being, what you want in life is usually beyond what your mind/ego believes is possible. So from an early age Martin simply knew he wanted to help people love life and live life in a Heaven on Earth fashion.

Sheryl shares with Martin that she also felt the pain and sorrow so many people were experiencing and wanted to understand the reason why life was so challenging She tells Martin that when she was 17 years old she saw the show Man of La Mancha about a man Don Quiote chasing dreams and miracles trying to protect people no matter the consequences. Sheryl heard the song “The Impossible Dream” which spoke of reaching for the stars, going where angels feared to tread, to bear with unbearable sorrow and to right the unrightable wrong. It continues by saying “This is my quest…to be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause, and I know if I’ll only be true to this glorious quest, that my heart will lie silent and sure when I ‘m laid to my rest, and the world will be better for this, that one man scorned and covered with scars, still strove with his last ounce of courage to reach the unreachable star.”

Well Sheryl says, “There was the beginning of asking Spirit, perhaps subconsciously, to help me be that energy of Heaven and goodness. I always yearned to conquer the physical limitations and rise to the soul potential that I knew within, but it took many miracles and years of searching for the truth of our connection to Universal Energy to begin to conquer the fears of physical life and be on my journey like Don Quiote. But the complete dedication to soul work began in seriousness twenty six years ago after completing many of my responsibilities to my physical life family so I could engage the larger focus of my attention: the human condition and how we can bring about the changes needed to be more humane and loving and bring about Heaven on Earth.

Martin like all spiritual seekers began exploring Heaven on Earth by asking himself certain questions: Why are we here? What is humanity’s job? Haven’t we had enough of the hells on Earth? Isn’t it time to make our world Heaven on Earth? Martin imagined being given a magic wand and with it could create Heaven on Earth. Wouldn’t you want to not only lessen the amount of war in the world but really end all war? And wouldn’t you want to do the same with hunger poverty homelessness crime addiction abuse and so on. In 1998 Martin was graced with an epiphany and realized what his next assignment in life was.” I’m going to take on changing the story of what it means to be a human and what it means to be Humanity so that we collectively experience co-creating Heaven on Earth.”

Sheryl says about 26 years ago she had a dream and in the dream her deceased grandfather in Spirit said to her, “Sheryl you have to write something for your father. The next day Sheryl’s dad passed and she wrote his eulogy and so began her awakening process: the remembrance of her spiritual promises even before she was born moving her pass the issues of everyday living with fear and limitation, to living in a metaphysical way with awareness of our connection to the eternal multi-dimensional layers of eternal life, the Universal Laws and values of goodness humility honor truth justice love and compassion. Sheryl like Martin sensed there must be Heaven on Earth and as she developed mediumship skills or the ability to connect to spiritual energy to receive information to help people know themselves, life, and how to create with their thoughts and actions the best version of life, Sheryl constantly sensed within herself, the words “Heaven on Earth just flowing through her.” At that time it meant she must share the gift of Spirit and their love and hope for us to make ourselves the most responsible loving entities, divine humans who throw all their love and goodness into every project and encounter, actually creating a state of mind and Being so “Heaven on Earth” can begin within each of us.

In Sheryl’s book The Living Spirit Sheryl wrote, “One day at a meditation group I suddenly sensed Jesus next to me. He was crying and I found myself choking back tears as well. “I have cried for many ills done by unknowing souls,” Jesus said, “Just as you and your group members also cry for the injustice and insensitivity of many.” …His words to me brought a feeling to my heart that to this day is hard to describe. It was as if Jesus wanted us to know that he and other emissaries of the unseen world work by our side for the continued advancement of humanity. They impress upon all of us that self-love and love for others will always be the goal for a soul experiencing a physical as well as an energetic life. To strive for excellence without hypocrisy in thought, word and actions was the message he gave then and now. Heaven on Earth is the feeling within that we are never alone and always loved by the Divine.

Heaven on Earth is such a BIG idea and people might get overwhelmed. Well, people are busy attending to their physical life responsibilities and often feel there is no time to address the spiritual needs of their body mind and soul but of course this is the farthest thing from the truth. Martin writes, “Now that they knew the story of their workplace, they began discovering that they could nurture and expand the parts of the story that worked and change the parts that didn’t they spoke of using the same process to discover the story of their own lives, their families and their nation. I believe the time has come to do the same thing with the story of our world. We’ve heard it said many times that the old story isn’t working—disease wars poverty and other sufferings continue. What we need is a new story—but notice that no one ever says what that new story is. It’s never named. Let’s name the world’s new story and make it a grand and noble new story….. Let’s make it an ambitious and splendid story about what it means for us to be a human and what it means for us to be Humanity. Let’s engage people enroll them from deep within their hearts and Souls that makes them want to pitch in and contribute to make this new story work because it has touched something in the very essence of who we are. This new global story will usher in a new era of promise, creativity, responsibility dedication and devotion—our Soul’s deepest desire. We can do it.”

What and where Is Heaven is a question many continue to ask. Sheryl tells the story of Caroline’s father who had a stroke and in the hospital while Sheryl was practicing a Reiki healing session over the very quiet man, he shared with her the thought or impression that he was ready to take a rocket ride far away to the beautiful green lush terrain of his childhood days in Ireland…The next day in meditation and while Sheryl was sending healing energies Caroline’s father let Sheryl know that he wouldn’t need a rocket ship for Heaven was only a “helicopter ride away” and he would be very near to his family.

Martin hopes for all of us, for Humanity that:

We experience why we are here and what we are here to do

We understand what our work together is—creating a world that works—and we begin being of service in accomplishing that: and

We choose to move to our next level evolutionary level

We can continue believing that we can’t make a difference, that we have to resogn ourselves to a world without hope for the future that we are insignificant that life is overwhelming. Or we can choose to use our energies to have the kind of world we deeply long for.

The first choice is fearful, shut down, polarized vengeful and mired in negativity. The second choice overflows with possibility energy hope accomplishments and heart. Imagine harnessing our collective human capacities and taking this planet to its next evolutionary level. As humans we can focus our life energies. As Humanity we can do the same and alter the planet and people’s lives for the better.

Sheryl says Eternal life or the Universal Energy that is all around us and the Divine Spark of God Life and Heaven a force of creativity love and expansiveness brings the past present and future together in one simultaneous energy that is around us and within us. That is “Heaven on Earth.” In recognizing our divine spark our divinity we bring heaven on earth to ourselves and in the way we express love and goodness into the world. We only have to help others to know who they are..”Spiritual beings having a physical life of experiences: none of them exactly good or bad, just experiences to help our soul energy refine and grow. Love and compassion raise us up from the three dimensional form of living to a “Fifth Dimension” of lightness of heart and being, with more compassion to shine out into the world. Many of us are almost there. Give up fear worry anger and many of the negative emotions and live with acceptance allowing and surrendering to the flow of your life plan and destiny, for “All is exactly as it is meant to be…Nothing is random …and we are eternal divine souls growing and expanding into greater awareness and Higher Consciousness.” Know thyself and you are free!

Martin shares with thoughts of Heaven on Earth from Ancient times. Heaven was imagined as a canopy which like a large sphere encapsulated the Earth. It was immediately visible above us. The stars the sun, the moon and the visible planets orbited within this sphere. Heaven was thought to exist from a couple of inches above the earth to the canopy above. In other words Heaven was here and now…

For Martin writes, “For me and a great many people Heaven is usually thought of as the place where God and the angels live and the place we go after death. Described by the Oxford Dictionary as a noun:

“ The celestial abode of immortal beings: the habitation of God and his angels and of beatified spirits, usually placed in the realms beyond the sky: the state of the blessed hereafter.”

In my research on Heaven though I discovered there is an additional way to describe it. The Oxford English Dictionary also defines Heaven as a verb:

“To make heavenly in character to transport or transform in heaven: also to bless with heaven, beatify render supremely happy.” We feel heaven on earth in the love of a spouse children family and friends in our flowers and listening to music prayer art and in the joy in our heart that simply sings with gratitude and hope.

Martin and Sheryl have obviously worked with many people over the years who have experienced unspeakable horrors or traumas. Martin tells the story of a young girl he met in Fortaleza Brazil in a children’s hunger rehabilitation program called IPREDE and how it changed him. IPREDE takes in starving children nourishes them and brings them back to the normal weight for their age. It also works with the mothers teaching them how to properly feed their children grow food and medicinal herbs and realize they can positively impact the health of their children. And then one day Martin met a child about 10-12 years old sitting on the floor by herself, malnourished catatonic cigarette burns on her body. Martin sat down next to her and picked up a little stuffed animal and tried to engage her. She pulled away. Martin decided the only thing he could do was send her his loving compassionate thoughts and hopes for her recovery. In his mind he said to her that what had been done to her was unacceptable. It was wrong. It was not what it means to be human. And then he sent her his love.

Sheryl says that as an intuitive healer she responds much the same way to wounded clients. Only recently there was a five year old boy thrown from the third floor landing of a mall in Minnesota and seeing the smiling face of the child on twitter she simply cried. Then Sheryl sent Distant Healing each day for weeks feeling the pain and fear of the boy and family as she is sure many people did from all over the nation. One day on her twitter feed Sheryl read that the boy was alert and she knew he would survive perhaps to do something extraordinary in our world. It was a “miracle” and Sheryl feels Spirit is sending many light being helpers to move us forward and we will be seeing many miracles and changes for the good, but, we must all speak up and work for cooperation and healing on all levels. Past the hurt and anger we must choose to create “Heaven on Earth” Healing and love is the way.

We give some examples of how people have made co-creating Heaven on Earth real in their lives. Sheryl says she has made it her normal way of life to interact in any way needed at work home or in her healing practice, in her writing, in her radio show to honor the best of our thinking of and sharing of and receiving love. Sheryl talks to everyone and makes time and has patience with everyone. She looks past any instinct of judgment reserve and fear to see the best and bring out the best in all people, places and events. Sheryl did hospice volunteer work for eight years helping people accept the journey beyond and helping their families have a clearer view of who we are and how we can truly accept all things to grow past fears and limitations. Simply try to smile and enjoy the beauty of everything. Pull back from too much social media to encourage personal interactions. Love the sun moon and sky, the water and animals, and most especially, the children who are the promise and hope for a new world of knowingness.

Sheryl thanks Martin Rutte author of Heaven on Earth for sharing his three questions as an approach to change ourselves and then the world. And for his passion in being part of this powerful movement for people to connect to a deeper level of awareness and consciousness of eternal soul energy which allows us to remember and know the power within that is love and compassion at its purest level. Finding it and sharing it brings “Heaven to Earth.”

In summarizing today’s episode of” Healing from Within” Martin and Sheryl have shared a growing awareness of the possibilities of the new life we are creating with each new awareness of the energy of soul, breath and the hope for many more people to awaken to the infinite possibilities for healing and growing into the version of themselves and this world we live in.

As Martin revealed “We know we have it within ourselves to tackle the overwhelming problems of the world. The human spirit has already

Sent and returned a man from the moon Knocked down the Berlin Wall Stopped smallpox and leprosy epidemics Brought about a peaceful transition to democracy in South Africa

Invented the Internet with its endless possibilities (Sheryl says but also infinite challenges to be overcome.) Detected gravitational waves for the first time

Launched an interplanetary probe that sent back the first close-up pictures of Pluto

Developed nanotechnology Delved into the far reaches of the micro-universe (confirmation of the Higgs boson) and the macro-universe (observed light from just after the Big Bang.)

Accomplishments such as this and so much more are a testament to the human spirit and the positive caring and creative part of Humanity’s story…A story shapes our perception of reality. We tell our story to others to connect and to define who we are. Doing is another aspect of story such as Martin Luther King”s actions in the emancipation movement story and Mother Teresa/s story of extreme poverty in Calcutta and chose to change it.

Martin and I would have you join us on this journey of self-investigation of our inner world of dynamic new insights and passions and the self mastery of emotions as we seek the highest forms of love cooperation humility honesty trust and truth and move past the materialist trappings of society politics and business religion or any limiting structure to be at one with Self the world, Humanity, and Universe and create Heaven on Earth. Just begin by feeling what makes your heart feel pain or joy and then find ways to use your intuition to rise above challenges to engage and participate in life. We can change ourselves and then change our world for the better finally bringing about Heaven on Earth in our hearts minds and actions.

  • WAYS FOR REVERSING DISEASE WITH NUTRITION/LIFESTYLE AWARENESS

Welcome to “Healing From Within” with host Sheryl Glick a Reiki energy practitioner and author of The Living Spirit Answers for Healing and Infinite Love which shares stories of spiritual awareness, communication, miracles, and ways to discover and utilize intuition, as a guide for your personal well being, healing and productive life journey. Sheryl is delighted to welcome Roberto Tostado M.D. author of wtf* is wrong with our health offering a rebel physicians manifesto for reversing disease and increasing smiles and of course our goal should be to lighten up, reduce stress, and bring more joy and happiness into our everyday life.

As listeners of “Healing From Within” are well aware Sheryl and her guests share intimate stories and insights into the metaphysical scientific and spiritual aspects of life to gain greater awareness of true healing on all levels mind body and spirit, so we can create and manifest through our thoughts actions and higher consciousness, a happier healthier productive life experience. Through self-investigation and self-mastery of our emotions, we begin to explore the magnificent inner landscape of our being and ourselves and the world more accurately.

In today’s episode of “Healing From Within” Dr. Roberto Tostado who has been practicing medicine for over 26 years is Board Certified in Regenerative and Anti-aging Medicine, also a fellow of Nutritional And Digestive Medicine from the American Academy of Anti-Aging medicine is a new breed of doctors pioneering an integrative approach to wellness. Dr. Tostado shares the simple powerful idea that good food is medicine and will offer suggestions to improve our health awareness, learn about detoxification, encourage the elimination of processed foods and foster vitality and a revitalized energy of health.

When Roberto is asked to think back to his childhood and remember a person place or event that might have foreshadowed the path he would pursue in adulthood as often Sheryl feels the plan is already within the child’s mind and heart and their life destiny which becomes clearer to them and others in time and he tells of growing up in East Los Angeles which posed many challenges, including poverty, gang violence and intimidation, limited resources in public education, and the general stigma of failure in the community. Graduation from high school was daunting enough for students in Boyle Heights, acceptance to college and completing a four-year degree even rarer. But these odds never discouraged me, for Roberto always had sensed that he had a destiny of service. He didn’t allow the circumstances of his environment to become deterrents. In a way, he rebelled against his inheritance and became a rebel with a cause. He describes himself as perhaps self-conscious as a kid, wearing glasses before he started school, and a bit chubby. He was studious, shy, and socially awkward and couldn’t say that he fit into any particular social group in elementary school, but teachers noticed that he read well and had me tested for ‘gifted’ status. He passed the examinations and was promoted to third grade after finishing the first grade. As if things weren’t awkward enough, he was placed in a class with older kids, while I was the same uber-shy bookworm. Throughout his life, Sheryl would find himself in some kind of uncomfortable circumstances that contributed to becoming a maverick. Sheryl has a somewhat similar story as she was in the SP in Junior High School going from the 7th grade to the 9th grade and also graduated college early so she was always with older people. Roberto also tells us that many people in his family had health problems and he was committed to finding ways to live a healthier life and to help them.

Dr. Tostado tells us he came from a broken community littered with street drugs, only to enter a medical community advocating prescription drugs, and generating a broken community of disease. Drugs were also present on campus once he entered middle school. Little did he know that becoming a doctor would make him feel like a drug dealer, but one who was legal and licensed: a pusher of pharmaceuticals. He came from a broken community littered with street drugs, only to enter a medical community advocating prescription drugs, and generating a broken community of disease.

He wrote, “I left the graffitied walls of Boyle Heights for the ivy covered walls of Columbia University in New York City. The year that I graduated high school in 1981, five of us were accepted to Ivy League schools — the first school in east Los Angeles to have that many graduates attending these prestigious schools. In college, I went rogue as well, studying literature aside from my pre-med classes, instead of the usual science major. This experience was profound for my development as a student and as a person, since my belief is that the arts and other “humanities” are fundamental to our well-being. Sheryl tells Roberto that it was great he had an opportunity to enlarge his understanding of the world through the arts as in medical school his entire focus was on the techniques and rigors of medicine.”

Dr. Tostado realized that healing depended on the patient often changing thoughts attitudes and behaviors and wrote, “We are in a moment that demands radical change, to preserve the health of our children and future generations through our choices. I can do all the talking, but actually doing what’s necessary is completely on you. A friend of mine asked, “How can you make people want to be healthy?” My answer was simply that people have to know it’s possible to be healthy without endless doctor visits and lifelong prescriptions. Then the healthy choice will be clear. Finally, this book is for my colleagues in the medical community. More physicians are gaining a new understand- ing of real nutrition, as I did, and passing on this life-giving information to our patients. You can benefit greatly from this approach. I put in ten years of conventional practice with the Kaiser Permanente healthcare system in California, growing increasingly disenchanted as I began to question whether I was really helping people heal, or only providing assistance in the maintenance of their diseases. My anger and disappointment grew as I watched too many patients suffer heart attacks, even with normal cholesterol levels, and saw diabetics forced to suffer amputations despite increasing their insulin levels by the vials.

Dr. Tostaso discusses regenerative medicine and what he thinks real healing is. He tells us he attended a conference in San Diego sponsored by ACAM, the American College for Advancement in Medicine, where he found himself surrounded by physicians who expressed the same disgruntlement and frustrations, and wanted to make a difference through alternative approaches with creativity, conscientiousness and compassion. At this gathering of defiant fellow doctors, Roberto learned that the fourth largest cause of death in this country was prescription drugs. That was his light-bulb moment, when he realized we were licensed to heal, but too often ended up killing instead; the statistics were undeniable. Roberto wanted to quit medicine, and found himself at a crossroads, feeling lost and almost ashamed of his medical degree. With the encouragement of his wife Teresa, whom he had met during his residency, they opened their own clinic with the sole purpose of helping people feel better, look better, and live healthier without the use of medication. We evolved over the years to focus on nutrition and weight loss through detoxification, to reverse the very common metabolic syndrome that is behind so much illness in the U.S. We developed a specific liver detox system to eliminate toxins and promote healthy fat metabolism for increased energy. More importantly, we helped clients learn how to recognize, prepare, and eat real food, not the over-processed, mass marketed, chemicalized products that pass for food in grocery stores and fast-food joints. Fresh nutritious food as a way of life is what I teach my patients, to deter the need for hospitals, doctors and medication.

Of course, we need modern medical technology to deal with acute health challenges like heart attacks, severe traumas, or debilitating infections. Surgery may be the only option for appendicitis or a brain tumor, angioplasty for a clogged artery, or dialysis for failing kidneys. Infections may require a dose of antibiotics, and an asthma attack will require steroids and breathing therapies. There is a place in medical practice for such interventions, but whole foods as a way of life can help prevent and reverse many illnesses. Heart disease, diabetes, obesity, cancers, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, and high blood pressure can all be prevented in large part by strengthening our immune system with real, natural foods.

Sheryl says to Dr. Tostado, “As a holistic doctor I am sure you are aware of the many alternate energy healing modalities that help awaken and balance the body for good health. As a Reiki energy practitioner I shared the idea that a complete wellness regime many include several of the healing modalities and what is effective for one person might not be right for another. So we should explore and try and find what feels right for us and what gives us insight and help into any condition we are dealing with.

Sheryl wrote in her book The Living Spirit , “ There are many types of energy healing Some, like Reiki and acupuncture have been around for thousands of years: others have been developed more recently. Their methods may differ, as well as certain aspects of their ideologies, but they all operate on one basic premise: there is more to us than our physical bodies. Energy sessions focus instead on the life force—or qi—that flows within all living things, the goal being to release, dissolve or transmute negative feelings that block this force and create imbalance and illness in the body. All of these methods have benefits that range from improving or healing the physical body to clearing past painful memories and negative thought patterns.

Dr. Tostado considers himself a rebel perhaps because he did not attend his medical school graduation ceremony, instead going home early to be with family and locate a place to settle in for residency training in Los Angeles. An oath is taken at the medical school commencement known as the Hippocratic Oath, which includes the following: …I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science and that warmth, sympathy and understanding may outweigh the surgeon’s knife or the chemist’s drug … I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure… May I always act so as to preserve the most favorable traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help…

This code of practice has eroded over time to such an extent that I often think of it as the “Hypocritical Oath. In our hearts we had the intent to help people get better. Somewhere along the way this intention got lost. We tend to believe that our treatment options are limited to what we learned in medical school, losing sight of other approaches to healing. We need to open our minds to consider those approaches. I appeal to all physicians to reach within our hearts to discover the purity of our original intent, and ask ourselves how we can be better healers instead of automatic prescribers.

Sheryl says that she recently interviewed Kat Kanavos and Dr. Larry Burke authors of Dreams Can Save Life and discovered the Asclepeion Dreaming Temples of Greece where an environment for healing centered on the practice of “Incubatio” known as temple sleep where the healer would help them relax and they could be visited by soul healers during this time. Hippocrates the father of early medicine who wrote the Hippocratic Oath is believed to have received training at an asclepeion on the isle of Kos as did Imhotep in Egypt who preceded him and Edgar Cayce, the modern day sleeping prophet who received information in trance state giving solutions for people’s most troubling health issues.

As a Reiki energy practitioner Sheryl follows the same process channeling Universal energy to help clients in mind body spirit connection for understanding their needs and to find ways to improve challenges whether emotional or physical which often can help foster self-healing by helping to change perceptions become aware of how thoughts and behaviors that influence the life we are creating and living. Healers since the earliest days have found many ways to affect change for the people they care for and greater awareness of human development emotional spiritual and physical ways for living with health.

What is really wrong with our health? We are long overdue for a revision of our society’s “healthware.” It’s time that the old programming of bad food and habitual meds gets replaced with updates on whole-foods nutrition and healthy lifestyles. Download vegetables and fruits, install good fats and organic proteins, and you will have the most powerful healthware around. While you’re at it, send the processed foods, sugar-heavy snacks, and diet drinks to your trash-cache. Chances are your medications will also end up being deleted. Imagine living in a world where the foods we consume every day actually caused many of our chronic ailments. Wait a minute; you don’t have to imagine that world because we do live in it — a world where processed foods, GMOs, hormones, pesticides, preservatives and other assorted chemicals have invaded our foods and bodies, resulting in a modern plague of chronic conditions that no one should have to live with.

Dr. Tostado says to his patients, friends, and family who want to become healthier and happier, “As a physician for 26 years, I’ve concluded that health begins and ends in our heads. Period. Our mindset is the blueprint of our lives for better or worse, positive or negative, toxic or healthy. By and large, the prevailing mindset of the modern world has replaced good with greed, nutrition with poison, whole foods with pharmaceutical drugs, healing with chronic disease, prevention with profits, and awareness with ignorance. When it comes to the state of our modern health, we have eroded into a generation of degeneration. We are all in this together in a messy world that challenges our health, happiness and laughter. Change for the better is imperative for our health and our children’s health. We need a sustainable way of living to promote prevention of dis- ease, and to live a long, high-quality life. How do we become healthier, and smile and laugh more, under these circumstances? We start by changing our minds. What is in your mind is your life. I’ve noticed a distinct pattern among the thousands of patients that I’ve seen: The ones who never seemed to get better, or improved only slightly, had in their mind the idea that they were sick, and weren’t changing that idea. They would come to see me again and again because they couldn’t see themselves as healthy and strong.”

Sheryl says, “Every day I get up and say to myself I am in a healthy fit body and going out there to enjoy the day share some small kindness with others and be of service in one way or another to see the beauty and hope of creating a better connection to spirit nature and compassionate acts. I often tell people who think they have a disease that they don’t have anything…their soul is creating a situation for them to change some of their thinking or behaviors that don’t serve their destiny and life path. Even accidents are not random. Nothing is random and if we see everything as an opportunity for change acceptance and allow ourselves to surrender, instead of resist, we can overcome the moment and move into a new reality.”

Roberto says “In some ways, it’s disappointing that this book had to be written, because its starting point is the huge misfortune of health and health care in this current time. Everything I have to recommend in this book should already be taught at home, schools, and medical institutions. Knowing how to maintain optimum health with a sensible and enjoyable diet should be common sense, but too many people continue to feed their diseases and chronic discomfort instead. And they’re encouraged by our medical system and massive pharmacological industry, which thrive on maintaining ill- ness rather than preventing and healing it. Meanwhile the processed-food industry floods our supermarkets with dena- tured “foodstuffs,” chock-full of sugar, toxins, and chemicals that weaken our bodies rather than nourish them. This book is written for people who are tired of dieting to lose weight; for those who are sick of being told that their diabetes is a life sentence; and for those who are sick and tired of taking all kinds of medications every day for years, with no end in sight. This book is here to help you understand that your health is grounded on what you put in your body — and that food can be your medicine or your poison, depending on what you choose to eat every day.

If health was a menu, many people would pick poisons to live on — poisons like choosing to perpetually complain, never wanting to get better, enjoying the attention of being sick (everyone has one of these in their family), staying at a miserable job, or hanging on to a toxic relationship. Sometimes when I worked in family practice at Kaiser, I would write on a prescription pad “stat divorce” — as in immediate removal of spouse — so that some patients could understand why they always had the same abdominal issues, year-round flu-like symptoms, or other forms of chronic misery. Leave your damn job, I might say to another, and your headaches will stop. I left my own job in medicine and felt a whole lot better. I don’t know if that patient ever got a divorce, but it sure would’ve been more effective than any antacid. Your choices from the menu of life can make all the difference. Your desire to be healthier begins with your thoughts. Pay attention to family and friends and yourself to see how thoughts — translated into speech, body language, and attitude — affect a person for good or ill. It’s no coincidence that people who find a lot to complain about also tend to complain of chronic ailments. Of course, we get upset and angry and frustrated about daily life. But if we make the connection between the amount of toxic stuff in our head with the sickness or weakness that it brings to our body, then we can begin to make better choices. The mindset of medical school is to focus on disease instead of health, and learn how to prescribe medications that address symp- toms rather than nurturing the body. In short, our focus in medicine is the disease process, not the healing process. And there’s a reason for that. As Snoop Dogg rapped, “I got my mind on your money and your money on my mind.” The fact is that disease care is far more profitable than prevention or health care.

It was difficult for Roberto to watch his dad’s decline representing to him the routine of disease care, with suffering overshadowing living, and lots of money going out to the medical industry. Physicians do their best to prescribe the necessary medication for their patients’ complaints, since this is the standard of medical education and practice in our country. But just because something is practiced over and over doesn’t make it the right way — and definitely not the only way.

If you read the side effects of prescription medications, you’ll be astounded that these drugs are legal. Anti-depressants can increase the possibility of suicide; cholesterol-lowering medication can increase the risk of kidney, muscle or liver damage; pain medication can cause internal bleeding; anti-inflammatories can increase risks of cancer and life-threatening infections. All such medications are FDA-approved and many result in “iatrogenic” death. What that means is: death by medication in appropriate doses. You’ve seen the drug commercials with cheerful people running with smiling dogs on a beach, apparently taking their medicine unquestioningly despite the required disclaimers listing all the dangerous consequences. Abnormal is the new normal. As a whole, our perception of health has become so distorted that we actually believe it’s normal to have some chronic medical problem by the time we reach adulthood, if not sooner. You’re not in the club unless you are taking some medication for pain, anxiety or fatigue — that is, you’re not normal unless something abnormal is going on with your body. Thirty has become the new sixty. This is sheer insanity.

Many people ask me, what is health food? My response is that all whole foods are health foods: organi- cally raised, antibiotic-free animal proteins, organic fresh vegetables and fruit, like the ones growing in your backyard, legumes, and natural, unprocessed fats along with fresh, mini- mally processed herbs and spices. That is quite an extensive list of nutrition possibilities. If you’re not eating junk, the best route to your best diet is listening to your body to see how it responds to any whole food that you eat. Omnivore, herbivore, or carnivore really is a matter of choice. The two healthiest diets in the world are Japanese and Mediterranean. Both cultures focus on seafood — providing lots of omega-3 fats that protect our hearts and brains — fresh vegetables, good fats, and green tea and red wine, re- spectively.

There is really only one disease — inflammation — that goes by many names: arthritis, diabetes, asthma, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel disease, ankylosing spondylitis, obesity, and so on. The key to healing them all is to reduce inflammation, and that’s best done by modifying diet, which inevitably means a permanent lifestyle change. Fortunately, this client was on board with reversing her diabetes this way. I immediately discontinued her cholesterol drug to eliminate its tendency to aggravate diabetes. After one week of detoxification through nutrition and antioxidants in the foods and supplements we initiated, she no longer required insulin. I repeat: no more insulin was needed in the first week, after being on insulin for years! When your body is nourished with real food while eliminating sugars, fructose, gluten, vegetable oils, and the preservatives and pesticides that are prevalent in highly processed foods, the body no longer requires drugs to function as it should. At this point it would actually have been dangerous to inject insu- lin, since her sugars were normalizing quickly. She dropped seven pounds and felt more energy in her first few days of “food medicine.” Over the next weeks she continued to improve until we were able to purge her from all medication; increasingly she realized that the way she’d always eaten was the biggest part of her health problem. She could finally take control of her health and life with the knowledge that she now possessed about food. She learned to eliminate processed foods quickly, now that she was aware of the consequences of daily sugars, sodas, breads, and fast foods. They were replaced with plant proteins, fruits, beans, vegetables, clean meats, and good fats. Water and green tea became her fluids during the liver detox phase.

Traditional medicine is helpful in some ways. Well yes it is, but first you must decide that changing the course of your health means changing ways of thinking, eating and being. Roberto told himself that from his fortieth birthday onward, he was no longer going to be fat, tired, and at risk for diabetes or a heart attack, regardless of his genes. There was no way he was going to take cholesterol medication and live with the alarming side effects. Roberto was set on giving this gift to himself, and nothing was going to change his mind. The day you really, really want health and happiness, it becomes possible.

Western medicine has undeniably saved countless lives with medication and surgical intervention, but it has also taken countless lives from the toxic side effects of medication. The current plague of opioid abuse can be traced straight to conventional medical practice. Go see a doctor for your chronic fatigue, obesity, symptoms of diabetes, in- somnia, or chronic pain, and the medication you are prescribed may very well have the potential of killing you taken as directed. We all have to learn to say, “No thank you.” Change is imperative for our health and our children. donut from a box.

Sheryl tells the story of having a little bump under the skin on her thigh and asked her skin doctor to have it removed. It was not a pleasant event. When she returned to the doctor weeks later still in pain and with an ugly scar, he said he wanted to do two more incisions. Sheryl asked, Is it cancerous? No he responded, but it might be a fungus or a bug bite? What would you do in that case Sheryl asked? Well you might need an antibiotic. Why would you make further incisions for that? Well, he said “We”re doctors and that’s what we do? Well, I am an intuitive healer and know that if it is not cancer and I have no pain, there is no reason to do further exploration and surgery. Sheryl said, “No way.” For a long time she was disturbed that any doctor would prescribe surgery and pain, if the case did not warrant that aggressive procedure. She did have the report sent to my doctor who said it wasn’t seemingly necessary. She never returned to that office again.

Dr Tostado suggests that for those who want to regenerate yourselves now, start looking at your grocery lists, focusing on the foods you would find on a farm. Keep the junk (like what they’d feed you in a hospital) to a minimum: jello, cookies, crackers, cold cut sandwiches. (Ketchup is not a vegetable, by the way.) Instead, focus on fruit, vegetables, beans, fresh meats, wild fish, nuts, eggs, avocados. This is how I transformed my health and my body, and it’s how you can do the same.

Exercise also adds in the absorption and utilization of food minerals and nutrients in our diets. In fact, it’s better not to think of “exercise” and instead consistently pursue some activity that you like: walking, dancing, hiking, hitting tennis balls, swimming, ping pong, rock wall climbing, Tai chi… whatever. Find your “movement passion” so that it becomes a part of your routine rather than forcing an exercise that you end up resenting, then doing nothing at all. If you enjoy going to a gym or getting yelled at by a boot camp instructor, by all means indulge yourself! I encourage outdoor activities to connect with nature since we spend the majority of our time indoors where we cannot activate the best source of vitamin D, the sun. But if you really hate all forms of exercise, then just eat better!

Most everyone is familiar with the expressions “gut feel- ing” or “intestinal fortitude.” In fact, a significant physiological connection exists between our intestines and the brain. The vagus nerve ties the brain and gut together in a physical and communicative bond, what you might call a neural information highway. What you put in your gut thus affects what the rest of your body does, including the brain. A recent study in Ireland placed two sets of mice into a stressful situation to see how each set would respond under stressful conditions. One set of mice were fed lactobacilli, the common bacteria probiotic found in yogurt, and the second set of mice were not given the lactobacilli. The mice were then immersed in a tank of water to see how they would respond. The group that wasn’t fed the lactobacilli panicked, and struggled to keep themselves from drowning. The mice that were fed the lactobacilli stayed afloat without any signs of anxiety or stress as they swam in the tank.

The food in our gut influences our mood and behavior

Human beings have a hard time reducing cortisol levels, since stress has become the norm in our daily living. This needs to be corrected for us to maintain a healthy weight.

    Typical stressors include:

    • WiFi, WiFi,
    • Fast food for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner
    • Energy drinks
    • Sitting in traffic
    • Watching any news channel
    • Candy break

    How to counteract daily stress

    • Cut out processed foods, the sooner the better.
    • Introduce fresh foods daily, the sooner the better.
    • Walk after dinner, walk during lunch hour.
    • Eat fats like almonds, walnuts, and avocadoes for energy instead of sugary snacks.
    • Drink water and herbal teas.
    • Limit coffee consumption to the morning, with green or black tea later in the day.
    • Disconnect and get away from the computer, smartphone, or tablet as often as possible.
    • Find a physical activity you look forward to, not just “exercise” that you don’t.
    • Detox your body to cleanse liver twice a year or more.
    • Cut out processed foods, the sooner the better (this bears repeating!).

Dr. Roberto Tostado writes, “It’s no joke that laughter is critical to better health, pun intended. I’ve actually prescribed watching comedies to patients, just to get them to laugh. Another way to crawl out of a rut is to help someone, whether by tutoring, volunteering, doing a good deed, or simply listening to someone about their interests or issues. Connecting with people and per- haps putting a smile on someone’s face takes you to a higher place of being. Nourish your mind with creative endeavors like singing, painting, playing music, working on your culinary skills or taking a class. Remember a lighter mind is a healthier person. Yogi Berra, a very dead former baseball player, once said that baseball is 90% mental, and the other 50% is physical. With my awesome math skills, I’d say that good health is 80% mental and 20% physical. We don’t say “this thought is giving me a cold” or “that thought is killing my back” — although that’s probably not far from the truth. At the very least, if you do suffer from any chronic pain, fatigue, excessive weight or diabetes, or any other ailment, you can start on the road to better health by learning to start flushing your mind of toxic thoughts, because they’ll keep you hooked on toxic foods.

Our body is completely interconnected and sends messages good or bad along the intricate highways and byways of our neurological system, with the accompanying responses from our immune and hormonal systems. When our immune system is out of whack it can overreact to a toxin disguised as our own body tissue and cause autoimmune disease, meaning that our bodies attack themselves, leading to the breakdown of organs and tissues over time. Hormones may be depleted or over-produced as a response to toxins in our bodies. For example, excessive cortisol production from repeat- ed stress can develop over time into chronic fatigue, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer and obesity, or the decreased production of testosterone. Preservatives preserve the profits of processed-food manufacturers, but do not maintain your health. A lifelong diet of processed foods and their built-in toxins invites disease and decline; a fresh-food diet cultivates optimum immunity and vitality.

In summarizing today’s episode of “Healing From Within” we have explored the need to take charge of our lifestyle choices to free us from health challenges disease and the dependence on medicine surgery and extensive trips to the doctors. We must learn how to improve our diet to make better choices in what we eat, how we exercise and handle stress, and opt for preventative holistic methods to better understand the needs of our bodies and minds, so we may deal with challenges in our lives and have the healthiest most productive joyful experience possible

Dr. Tostado writes, “We need to refuse this notion that it’s natural to live with disease the rest of your life. Most disease is not a consequence of aging but of lifestyle. If you could choose a lifestyle to prevent disease, would it be the way you are living now? To go forward we need to go back to eating fresh foods and enjoying the outdoors as our ancestors once did. Aging and dying are inevitable but, not the poor quality of modern-day life.” Health begins by loving yourself more than your doctor, or doughnuts. I know; I loved doughnuts. That’s when my weight was at its highest, and I have a genetic propensity for diabetes. I had an uncle who would put sugar on his candy bars, and died a horrible death from diabetes. To sound like a broken record: you are what you eat, and you become your environment. When I left family practice and switched to what I’m doing now, I began reversing my patients’ diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, chronic pain, chro- nic fatigue, chronic anger, and insomnia without prescribing a single drug. What is the purpose of treating symptoms with a constant cycle of drugs while you remain ill and unhappy? You are then investing in your disease, not your health.

Roberto and I would have you know you are supported by Spirit and loved ones who offer you many chances to manifest and create a healthy productive lifestyle. Simply pay attention to your body what you feel and find agreeable food people places and activities that feed your inner heart and we assure you: you will find health and happiness.

  • SPIRITUAL WISDOM THROUGH A SOUL INTROSPECTION PRACTICE OF YOGA AND TRAVEL

Welcome to Healing From Within with host Sheryl Glick author of The Living Spirit Answers for Healing and Infinite Love which shares stories of spiritual communication healing energies miracles and discovering intuition for creating ways to expand inner wisdom and compassion from within. Today Sheryl is delighted to welcome Kurt Koontz author of Practice and a former guest of this show to describe his open hearted life journey to discover and advanced yoga practice in India quite different than his experiences previously Kurt explores the beauty and age old wisdom of the Himalayas and the sacred Ganges River and strives to expand his own wisdom and compassion in this adventuresome and life changing experience.

As listeners of “Healing From Within” are well aware Sheryl and her guests share intimate experiences and insights into the metaphysical world of life both in spirit and physical aspects as we ask age old questions, Who are we? Where did life originate? and Why am I having this human experience?

In today’s episode of “Healing From Within” Kurt Koontz an outdoor adventurer may not have been wholly guided by Spirit when he first began to explore yoga, however, when he found himself in Rishkikesh India known to many as the “Yoga Capital of the World,” Kurt was able to explore the visual cultural richness of the land and he developed a “Practice” that appealed not just to yogis and travelers, but to all adventurers who strive to expand their consciousness and love of life.

Kurt shares with us when asked to think back to his childhood and to remember a person place event or value that was important to him and may have shown him or others the life path and interests he might embrace in adulthood Kurt writes, “I had been an active kid who enjoyed skiing and participating in team sports like football and basketball. When I graduated from high school, my parents gave me a suitcase and a bicycle as graduation gifts. I took both to college. At the University of Puget Sound, I often used my bike to get away from the noise and stress of being a student. I routinely rode the 15 mile round trip to Point Defiance Park and its scenic loop. After graduating from college and going to work at Micron Technology I found a need for exercise that had very little to do with health. I poured myself into physical fitness to mask my addictions. I convince myself I could not possibly have a drinking or smoking problem if I was able to endure strenuous bouts of exercise. Two exceptional women worked for me during this time. We could often sneak out to the gym for a class or some cardio exercise. One day I tried a new class called Spin and really loved it.

After my trip to Amsterdam and riding my bicycle across Europe exercise had new significance in Kurt’s life and after the trek across the Camino in Spain Kurt was very in tune with the idea of letting go and opening himself up to the unknown. As he tried new things he also gave up his attachment to the outcome. He was now on a spiritual journey of self-discovery. This attitude led him to his first yoga class.” So it seems Kurt’s parents encouraged him to travel and explore the world and his love of activities.

Kurt’s book Practice is the story of one man’s search for Self through movement travel exercise yoga and learning to move past limitation and addiction to freedom of the mind, to imagination and opening to the world without expectation and judgment. In the photos captured by Kurt in his book you can see the beauty and goodness that Kurt believes is within each of us, and how people live with their challenges and still find happiness if they don’t dwell on negativity. Kurt Koontz shares many wonderful stories of places and people who show us what is possible, if we move beyond our comfort zone. Kurt tells us that his first trip to India in 2015 was totally unexpected. He had traveled to many international destinations before including a nearly 500 mile walk on Spain’s El Camino de Santiago in 2012 which culminated in his first book A Million Steps. While writing his first book he spent a bit of time on the Camino-related social media and began a friendship with Laurie Larson. Laurie had landed in India to become the executive assistant for a prominent spiritual leader and she had begun a practice Seva: selfless service performed without thought of reward and payment. She really liked Rishikesh and thought Kurt should visit.

Kurt began to study about the city of about 100,000 people in northern India at the base of the Himalayas and it was described as the “Yoga Capital of the World.” He had been practicing yoga for about two years at that time…Kurt discovered that the Beatles had visited the city to learn about Transcendental Meditation at the ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. This is where most of the melodies and lyrics were created for The White Album.

On Kurt’s very first night at the Ashram he stayed in for the month he heard young men singing and saw ashram students dressed in yellow and orange robes and he followed them to the banks of the Ganges River where hundreds of people were gathered for the Ganga Aarti ceremony performed every night of the year on the banks of the Ganges River—Mother Ganga—in Rishikesh. The riverside celebration began with a fire ceremony or havan wherein herbs, sweet rice, marigolds and seeds were offered into the fire pit by 14-16 participants. Music was broadcast. Traditional Indian chanting calmed the mind. There were 30-40 large lamps lit at the conclusion of the ceremony. Music light and chanting filled the air.

Kurt tells us about his beginning yoga sessions before India and Surinder, for originally yoga was just another form of exercise and physical fitness for me. Kurt had a long history of using exercise: first as a distraction from his addictions and of course also to stay fit and attractive to women. When Kurt was 48 a few months before walking the Camino he went to a hot yoga class that involved a series of classic asanas poses performed in a room heated to 105 degrees and flooded with 40% humidity. Inspired by the level of difficulty he formed a habit of using heat as a barrier and went three to four times a week. The heat did increase flexibility. He was there for the flexibility of his spine and never imagined the same flexibility could transfer to my mind. Yoga became a compliment to my other exercise routines and after several years of practice for the wrong reasons when I found myself in Rishikesh India, I waded into the Surinders drop- in class where I made my first connection to the Spiritual side of yoga. In yoga we are able to control the movement, which is the first step to controlling the mind.

Sheryl tells Kurt how she found her way to yoga. About 25 years ago she was told after having her first intuitive or psychic reading with a medium that was a gift given to her at a Christmas party she attended that she would take yoga classes, write three books and her psychic abilities would explode. Sheryl thought all that sounded completely unlikely. A week later Anna Sheryl’s hairdresser asked if she would like to go to the Sky Gym in town for a yoga class as she had a gift coupon. Had Sheryl not just been told about yoga by the psychic she probably would have said no, but she said “Yes” and spent the next five years learning the language of Spiritual matters and feeling the energy of her own body as she slowed down her mind and began to perceive life in a new way. Next came Reiki energy healing and working with a gifted healer and medium and Sheryl began to meditate regularly. Sheryl wrote her first two books Life Is No Coincidence and The Living Spirit Answers for Healing and Infinite Love. The third book New Life Awaits See through Spiritual Eyes the Evolution Revolution and World Awakening Process is in the works. She didn’t believe that psychic at the time but indeed everything she told Sheryl came to pass.

Rishikesh became a very special place for Kurt for in India Kurt’s first lesson was learning to go with the flow—to float through all doors that opened – while respecting that time has a different meaning in this place or land. One day Kurt’s friend invited him to an ashram’s prosthetic camp. Kurt had thought about all the limbless people he saw regularly in India. A few blocks from the ashram an armless girl grasped a paintbrush with her toes to create artwork she sold for her survival. At the Prosthetic camp ashram volunteers used their skills to craft customized arms and legs. Over a three week period they had crafted more than 75 devices. Kurt watched as a middle aged man with one leg and crutches had the prosthetic attached and began to walk taking his first steps without the crutches for the first time. It was inspiring to see how people helped each other in this place where there was much poverty yet hope.

In regard to the obvious exterior pollution of the area for the Ganga was the fifth most polluted river in the world and half the population had no access to a toilet. Acknowledging the external problem the founder of The Global Interfaith Wash Alliance is trying to bring sanitation and hygiene to those in need throughout the world. It was suggested that environmental ignorance is rooted in Indian culture because for thousands of years the focus has been inward. Shoes were left outside buildings to prevent dirt from entering the interior the same way negative thoughts were discouraged for the same reason. Hindus believe we are all part of a universal divine. We don’t need to go outside to find the divine because it resides inside every human Yoga and meditation are methods to strengthen this connection to the inner soul.

Without being offensive ashram leaders then pointed out the sharp divide between India and the Western World. Beverly Hills for example is carpet bombed with perfectly manicured lawns youth is coveted …porcelain veneers and bling equals status..Balance is the key to life, ashram leaders observed but Americans seemed to be skewed toward the outward view.

Sheryl remarks that she feels discovering the balance between our spiritual energy soul life and our physical needs is what actually helps us achieve a purposeful healthy joyful productive life journey. If you do not know you are more than your body, and that life is an opportunity for your soul to expand while refining your values and sense of love and compassion, you miss the reason you are really having a physical life: then neither your spiritual or physical life is able to thrive. You can enjoy the beauty of the physical world, art, music, travel, color, and have beauty in your home, but, it cannot be the whole focus of who you are, for it cannot outshine your inward beauty

Sheryl writes in her book The Living Spirit, “Self mastery is an ongoing process. We are changing second by second and so is the world around us. We will never completely know ourselves or anyone else, for that matter. What is important to realize is that we are not limited by our thoughts and dreams. We are not just beings of essence or spirit, nor are we merely physical bodies. We are both. Once we learn to focus and concentrate our thoughts in a consistent manner without doubt and negativity many of our best intentions will come to fruition. I have observed and concluded for myself that happiness is not based in power, or in the accumulation of monetary goods and possessions. Rather, happiness is in the joy and giving and receiving and elevating oneself in the positive eternal energy dance in this physical dimension and with awareness of our higher spirit.”

Kurt tells us about other solo traveling he has done. After returning from my first trip to India it took a while for Kurt to digest all that had transpired. After two months in California he spent a few weeks looking for a yoga centric community in Central or South America. He was hoping to find a yoga scene with deep roots in the spiritual aspects. Kurt was there for a month without encountering anything that compared to India. He tells us that when he left India the first time it was like he had been on an extended hallucinogenic drug trip. It was a place that seemed like constant chaos with unfamiliar sounds scents foods and customs. A beautiful trip but definitely rooted in the surreal and wrapped in an endless sea of vibrant colors. Solo travel had many benefits like meeting a person like Shaochen a 34 year old woman from China who without any effort radiated love and light. She had left China at the age of 20 and ended up studying at a university in the Netherland. Until this trip she had worked for the government of Netherlands as an envoy to China. Also in search of a spiritual path she had scoured the Internet for places in Rishikesh and ended up at The Parmarth whose slogan was “Do not wait for miracles. You are the miracle.” and that’s how she ended up on the banks of Mother Ganga in December. After seven days in Rishikesh she made a decision to resign her position and devote her life to service of others. She completed a 30 day yoga training course at the ashram. Following the example of the Hindu god Hanuman who is believed to have moved the Himalayan Mountains, she declared her intention to serve the next generation. Her personal mantra: “There are no boundaries and we are all one.”

Another visit with Mr. Garg made me explore again the many reasons Kurt love solo travel and adventures. He felt very fortunate that he was able to retire early and travel often. Mr. Garg told us how he became a disciple of the original Swamiji at Parmarth in 1950. He came from a privileged family and had a successful business career. Throughout his career he always spent considerable time at the ashram and finally moved there on a permanent basis. He could have lived a life of luxury but chose to spend most of his time in a tiny apartment at Parmarth which brought him so much peace.

Kurt tells us that his first trip alone was a bit nerve wracking with many moments of insecurity. Instead of taking full advantage of his good fortune, he spent time worrying about what other people thought of me. Imagine the level of arrogance it took to think I was important enough to be noticed. Age has taught me to disregard this idiotic though process. He now known the big advantage of solo explorations. On his own, Kurt meets many people he might not get to know if he was traveling as a pair or with a group. Alone he also gets to choose everything from the destination, wake-up time and restaurants to the daily list of activities.

Sheryl remembers going to a Spiritual large event in Phoenix Arizona because there was a group who were studying “remote viewing” and Sheryl as an intuitive downloading information from Spirit for her clients thought she might be doing something similar to the process of remote viewing so she went alone, and there were so many people from all over the world sharing their special alternative healing modalities and products. Sheryl met many wonderful people artists musicians and gifted energy healers mediums and health practitioners. Later down the road when Sheryl had her first radio show “Healing From Within” one of the people she had met in Arizona Bliss a spiritual singer from England was one of her first guests. Life Sheryl believes takes us where we need to be, to have the experiences, and meet the people we are supposed to meet. For Sheryl the benefit of that solo trip was that I talked to and engaged with many new people and didn’t have to spend time with friends or family doing what they might have been interested in. I was free to explore whatever caught my attention.

Sheryl thinks it is because Kurt is not so much in search of excitement and adventure as much as he is in search of appreciation for life happiness and ways to be comfortable no matter what, that the trip whether large or small, at home in Idaho, or on the Camino in Spain it is all valuable and enjoyable. Kurt wrote,“ When I travel my surroundings have rarely been as comfortable as my life at home. My budget does not allow for luxurious settings or accommodations. While the first few days in a new place seem abnormal I soon realize I have more than enough in any given situation. I have slept well in bunks on the Camino, in a cramped and dusty ashram room and in a tiny rented jungle house in Central America. These experiences serve as a reminder about the true seeds of happiness. The basis of needing more is a feeling of not having enough. That soil grows only discontentment.

A core message that Kurt hopes people take away from his yoga experiences and his books is that we all pursue personal growth and an opening of our hearts and minds to possibilities of expansion.

Kurt wrote, “Overall I try to seek solo adventures at the outer edges of my comfort zone. For me personal growth happens in these unfamiliar territories. I have also remixed my at home activities to focus on personal growth. Such as though I enjoy road and mountain biking in Idaho because I have lived in the state most of my life some of the trails have become too familiar too predictable. One day I woke up and decided to ride each one in the opposite direction. The change in perspective was so simple but required thought and imagination.. When confronted with a decision, I always ask myself, “Which one am I most likely to remember five years down the road?” The routine choice is rarely my answer. An adventure either in my neighborhood or in a distant land gives me something extraordinary to look forward to—an exciting opportunity to open my head and heart to exploring this beautiful world.”

Kurt Koontz author of Practice has shared a most creative adventuresome look at the visual beauty and culture of Rishikesh India the self-professed “Yoga Capital of the World,” and his unbounded admiration for the lush foothills of the Himalayas and the sacred River Ganges and for the many families who welcomed you.

In summarizing today’s episode of Healing From Within I believe we have seen in all the journey’s Kurt Koontz has shared with us, no matter how far, how different from our own life and routines, the challenge is within us to appreciate who we are, and how beautiful nature and the physical lives and cultures of other nations and lifestyles are in their own simplicity. How we find similarities in human values and dignity. if we are able to give up judgment and expectation allowing our minds and hearts to enjoy all the places we visit, without fear, enhances the human spirit. Then it is possible to know compassion and love in our essence. For our personal goal is often to just let go, and flow with the experience, the people, the scenery, the food and customs, and know how fortunate we are to have the opportunity. Each journey of every day, whether to a new country, or a new street in your own neighborhood, may move you beyond your comfort zone, and you may find freedom and peace. As I am writing this I am looking at the picture on page 57 of the beautiful children in Rishikesh and they remind me of the sweet faces of my grandsons who live in California. Children with a smile can light up a person’s face and soul, no matter the place or conditions. Their innocence and trust are sincere and Kurt Koontz’s experiences ring true to the beauty of this precious discovery. Life is indeed wondrous.

Kurt and I would have you begin your journey of self- exploration wherever you are wherever you go in all of life, for each moment is a new moment of awareness and creation. If you are fortunate to explore the many beautiful places throughout the world, go with the hope of connecting to the heart and mind of others in a way that brings happiness, without expecting anything in return, share what you have, and in the giving, we are certain you will receive the love and acknowledgment of simply being the best you can. That is the journey of life and love, wherever you are, wherever you go. We wish you observe and explore within, and also the outside world of nature people culture and change.
