Snake Healed After Seeking Refuge in Taiwan Temple
If you saw a hurt animal, would you help it?
What if that animal was a snake?
Well, that's what happened in Taitung.
Recently, some people were visiting a temple (寺廟).
They saw an animal hiding under a statue of the land god.
It was a snake!
This one was more than a meter long.
It looked hurt, so the people called a veterinarian (獸醫) who specialized in taking care of wildlife (專門照顧野生動物的獸醫).
They found out it was a beauty snake
This kind of snake is not venomous (並不是毒蛇), which means its bite cannot really hurt people.
But, beauty snakes act like venomous snakes to protect themselves
The beauty snake had gotten tangled (被纏住了) in a net used to catch birds, and hurt its jaw (下顎受傷).
It couldn't close its mouth properly.
The veterinarian Mr. Liao brought the snake to an animal clinic and treated its wounds
Mr. Liao says snakes usually get nervous (緊張) when they stay at the hospital.
This snake was given medicine, and a chance to rest, so its bones (骨頭) could heal naturally.
After 16 days, the snake was released into the wild
According to Mr. Liao, the clinic has been able to heal nine snakes over the past two years, and return them to their life in nature.

4500-Year-Old Palace Discovered in Iraq
A team of scientists have discovered an ancient palace (古老的宮殿) in Iraq.
The palace is 4500 years old, and it may be the key (關鍵) to understanding how ancient people lived.
Dr. Rey is the leader of the team that found it.
He is an archaeologist
That means he is a scientist who studies very old things.
For years, Dr. Rey's team has been working in the desert of Iraq
That's in the Middle East (中東地區), the place with the world's oldest cities.
The team was studying an ancient city called Girsu.
In Girsu, they found a wall with some ancient words on it.
The words were hard to read, but Dr. Rey thought he understood them.
According to his theory (按照他的理論), the words said that next to the city was a palace, where the king and queen lived.
But, when Dr. Rey shared his theory with others, nobody believed him (沒有人相信他).
They said there was no palace.
However, Dr. Rey has been proven right (證明他是對的).
His team recently found the palace.
It was buried in the ground (埋在地下), so they dug it up.
The palace was built by ancient people called the Sumerians (蘇美人).
The Sumerians are important because they built the first cities in history, almost 5000 years ago.
They also created the first writing and the first laws ever.
Now, Dr. Rey's team is studying the palace, which is called "The Lord Palace of the Kings".
Inside the palace, they have found hundreds of clay tablets (泥板), covered in writing (上面寫滿了字).
Dr. Rey and his team of archaeologists hope the writing can lead them to their next discovery.

Meteorite Falls in Italy
What would you do if a star fell on your balcony (陽台)?
That's what the people in one Italian city (義大利有一個城市的居民) had to ask themselves.
Usually, the city of Matera is a quiet place.
But recently, the people of Matera saw something that surprised them (令他們驚訝).
It was a ball of fire in the sky!
It looked like a star falling from space.
It turns out, what they saw was not a star, but a meteorite (隕石).
That's what we call a rock from outer space that falls on Earth.
The meteorite landed right on a family's balcony.
The family whose balcony the meteorite landed on gladly gave it to scientists, who named the meteorite after the family's two sons, Gianfranco and Pino.
Since the space rock didn't touch any water or earth, it is very clean.
That's what makes it interesting to scientists, who want to understand more about these meteorites!
