  • Mineral Makeup: Better for Skin Health
Mineral makeup is kinder to your skin than traditional makeup. You want to take care of your skin, but you don't want to sacrifice your makeup routine. Mineral makeup may be a good option for you. Traditional makeup is 70-90% talc. Talc is a mineral, but it mimics the chemical composition of asbestos when ground. Traditional makeup also contains lots of fillers so there's more product than pigment. It can go bad and needs frequent replacement. Mineral makeup is made of pure pigment. The rocks used to create the pigment don't rot. It also contains titanium and zinc oxide. These ingredients are anti-inflammatory, anti-acneic and provide a natural SPF. Listen in as Tricia Campbell of Jane Iredale Cosmetics shares how mineral makeup is kinder to your skin.

  • Pattern of Arguments & Anger May Impact Future Health
How you argue today may affect your future health. We all get angry at someone from time to time. But, could anger be impacting your health and wellness? Dr. Robert Levenson conducted a 20-year study on anger at the University of California at Berkeley. This study showed that how you argue can affect your future health. Having 20 years to conduct the study allowed observation of the subjects in mid- to late-life when they were more susceptible to physical illness. Couples were observed in 15 minute intervals, with researchers hoping these slices of life were representative of their outside lives. Arguing is defined as four moments of anger per minute, resulting in 60 little expressions of anger per session. The people who showed lots of anger had heart issues later in life. Those who stonewalled, refusing to communicate, had more aches and pains, back and muscle problems. Having short bursts of anger didn't seem to cause chronic problems. It's the constant expressions of displeasure that added up to physical issues later in life. If you're in a relationship where you can't express your anger or you over-express it, it's time to reconsider some things about that relationship. Listen in as Dr. Levenson shares his findings from the study.

  • Ask HER: Kegels, Fat Loss & Fatigue
Listen in as Pam and Michelle answer your personal health questions. It's YOUR time on HER Radio. Be a part of the show... send your comments and ask your questions by email, [email protected]. It's time to Ask HER. Today, on HER Radio you wanted to know: What are the benefits of kegel exercises and how can I start doing them? Kegel exercises strengthen the muscles of your pelvic floor. The pelvic floor muscles control urine flow and hold pelvic organs in place. Kegels are prescribed for recovery after childbirth, as well as to address stress and urge incontinence. Kegel exercises work the same muscles you use to urinate. Squeeze for three seconds and relax for three seconds. Don't contract your stomach or thighs and don't do the exercises while urinating. Do this cycle 10 to 15 times per day. Add one more second to the squeeze and release until you're up to 10 second cycles. What is more effective for fat loss: 20 minutes of high intensity interval training or 60 minutes of cardio? High intensity interval training (HIIT) is where it's at. It improves everything: body fat, weight, heart health. It's very focused. HIIT starts with a five minute warm-up. You do hard-core exercises for 20 to 60 seconds. Then you work out at a moderate pace for a minute or two as you recover. Then, it's back into the intense exercise for another 20 to 60 seconds. This cycle of workout and recovery continues for five to eight cycles. The entire workout takes 15 to 20 minutes. I feel more tired that usual lately. What could be the cause? You may have anemia, thyroid disease or diabetes. These can all be checked through a blood test from your doctor. It could also be an inflammatory disease. You may not be getting enough sleep or you may have sleep apnea. Speak with your doctor about your concerns. If you have a personal health question that you want answered, Pam and Michelle encourage you to send them in to [email protected].

  • Why Do You Pick the Wrong Partner?
You want a great relationship. So why do you keep picking the wrong partner? You make a neat little list of all the qualities you want in a partner and post it on your dating profile. Despite what you say you want, you go for the wrong person again. It's become a bad habit. Why do you keep dating losers? There are four major concepts that could contain your sticking point. Repetition compulsion comes from early childhood. Our neurotic defense mechanisms try to rewrite history. Childhood wounds are trying to be rectified in adulthood. Trauma bonding stems from cycles of abuse where there are intermittent reinforcements of punishment and reward, creating powerful emotional bonds that are resistant to change. The victim is worn down over time and becomes used to the cycle as "normal." You share similar trauma with your abuser. Co-dependency is the result of pain in adulthood that comes from being harmed in childhood. You attach yourself to external things for safety. You try to fix people in order to fix yourself. Attachment style has a spectrum of secured attachment through disorganized attachment. Only 65% of people are securely attached. There is disharmony when you have a clingy personality attached to a detached personality. You need to love yourself. Look at what's behind your terrible choices and work on YOU. Figure out why you're dating losers. You can't fix anyone else; your right partner is yourself. When you're happy and healthy, you'll attract the right kind of partner. Interventionist Jane Mintz shares why you go for the wrong partner, time and time again.

  • Ask HER: Sex Drive, Signs of Miscarriage & Food Cravings
Listen in as Pam and Michelle answer your personal health questions. It's YOUR time on HER Radio. Be a part of the show... send your comments and ask your questions by email, [email protected]. It's time to Ask HER. Today, on HER Radio you wanted to know: Does testosterone for women really bring back sex drive? Testosterone is known as the masculine hormone. It does contribute to sex drive and occurs naturally. Testosterone-only is FDA approved exclusively for men. If you're having sex drive issues, speak with your doctor. Your issue may be helped by reducing stress, working through relationship problems or eliminating a medication. Women can get a testosterone compounded prescription that is mixed with other things specific to that woman. Candidates for the compounded testosterone are women who have had their ovaries removed, have a low sex drive or a pituitary gland problem. What are signs of a miscarriage? One in six women have a miscarriage, and it can happen before the pregnancy is known. It takes place within the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. Vaginal bleeding with pain is the first sign. You may have belly cramps, pelvic pain or consistent lower backaches. Get to your gynecologist right away if you think you may have miscarried. How can I control food cravings? Practice stress reduction so you don't want those processed foods. Be mindful. Stay in the present. Get plenty of sleep. Find other rewarding ways to be happy in life. If you have a personal health question that you want answered, Pam and Michelle encourage you to send them in to [email protected].
