Thinking about getting breast reduction surgery? The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. The same is true with breasts. Significant pain in the neck, shoulders and chest can occur from the extra weight. Self-esteem issues can arise, because large breasts don't necessarily attract wanted attention from others. Listen in as Dr. Robert Singer discusses what you need to know about breast reduction.

  • Why Women Cheat
What would prompt a woman to cheat? The popular narrative is the one of the woman scorned, her beloved turning to the arms of another for sexual thrills. You may remember the popular old yarn of the businessman who dumps his wife for his secretary. The man is usually cast as the actor in the story, and the infidelity happens to the woman. Women also cheat. Yes, women may do it for the excitement of something new and secret. They may also cheat because the sex is no longer cutting the mustard. Sometimes they cheat for emotional fulfillment. Women rule their own bodies and make their own decisions, which can be an additional reason for stepping out. An adulterous woman is viewed a bit differently by society than an unfaithful man. Listen in as gender expert and author, Susan Shapiro Barash, discusses female infidelity.

  • DIY Foods: Yogurt & Granola
Two simple, healthy foods you can make from scratch: yogurt and granola. It's wonderful to create your own food from scratch, because you have more control over the flavors and ingredients. This is a perfect option if you have allergies, are picky, or are just tired of unnecessary additives. Chef and dietitian Abbie Gellman has these simple recipes for you. YOGURT Pour milk in a saucepan and bring it to a simmer. Add a little heavy cream if you prefer creamier yogurt. Remove from heat. Add a bit of ready-made yogurt as a starter for the fermentation process. Cover the pot with a towel and let it rest for 6 to 12 hours. Add fresh fruit, granola and/or a natural sweetener and serve. GRAB-AND-GO GRANOLA BARS INGREDIENTS: 2 cups rolled oats 1/4 cup sunflower seeds 1/2 cup dried cherries 1/4 cup wheat germ 1/2 cup chopped walnuts 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 cup peanut butter 3/4 cup honey 1 tablespoon flax oil 3 tablespoons maple sugar or brown sugar PREPARATION: 1.     Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a ceramic or glass 9x13 inch baking dish. 2.     Mix oats, sunflower seeds, cherries, wheat germ, and walnuts together in a bowl. Spread mixture on a sheet pan and toast in preheated oven for 8 minutes. Return mixture to a large bowl. 3.     In a medium saucepan, combine salt, peanut butter, honey, flax oil, and sugar. 4.     Bring to a boil over medium heat and immediately remove from heat. Pour over oats mixture and combine until dry ingredients are evenly coated. Stir in chocolate if you are using it. 5.     Pour into baking dish. Press mixture down into pan. 6.     Bake for 20 minutes. 7.     Let cool for up to 2 hours and then cut and serve. GRANOLA RATIO: The only thing you need to remember is this: 6 parts dry to 1 part wet. Then set oven to 300°F. MIX THE DRY INGREDIENTS: Rolled oats, always. Abbie likes to have at least half of her dry ingredients consisting of rolled oats. Do not use quick-cooking oats. Other dry ingredient options include nuts and seeds and/or other rolled, flaked, or puffed grains Chopped walnuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, puffed millet, coconut flakes For flavor and texture, aim for a mix of at least four dry ingredients; a good ratio to follow is 3 parts oats, 1 part nuts, 1 part seeds, and 1 part something else. WHISK THE WET INGREDIENTS: Wet ingredients coat the dry ingredients, which helps them brown and clump together 1 part wet to your 6 parts dry Half sweetener and half oil For a neutral flavor, try grapeseed, canola, or sunflower seed oil For the sweetener, you need something that's in liquid form, like honey, agave nectar, maple syrup, or brown rice syrup Can add an egg white Whisk together oil, sweetener, and egg white (if using) until they equal your 1 part measurement, then stir it into your bowl of dry ingredients to coat everything thoroughly. SEASON TO TASTE: cinnamon vanilla extract cardamom nutmeg salt BAKE UNTIL GOLDEN-BROWN: Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper, then spread your granola mixture out in an even layer. Bake at 300°F, gently stirring every 15 minutes, until the granola is golden-brown and dry, 40 to 45 minutes. If you want dried fruit in your granola such as dried cherries, cranberries, raisins, or sliced dried apricots, add it at the end. Let the whole thing cool completely then store in pantry.

It's time to Ask HER. Today, on HER Radio you wanted to know: How can I start meditating to de-stress? Start in small increments to prove to yourself you can do it. Find a quiet place to sit, close your eyes, and try to concentrate on your breathing. You can have a mantra, but you don't have to have one. There are a lot of resources available, and there are people in your community who will join you. Meditation calms you down. It reduces inflammation and the level of stress hormone in your body. Why is my hair falling out? Sometimes it's genetic. It also happens in pregnancy. Hair loss is associated with anemia, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, autoimmune diseases, and skin conditions. Menopause can also cause hair loss due to fluxuating hormone levels. Extreme stress, surgery, trauma, and significant weight loss in a short time can all lead to hair loss. Go to your physician if you experience hair loss. There is female minoxidil available over the counter. Hairstyles can also contribute to hair loss. Beware cornrows and tight braids, which can pull on the hair follicles and cause hair to fall out. What are some tips for falling asleep quicker? Exercise and physical activity help wear you out. Turn off your screens and devices before you go to bed so you can unwind. Keep a sleep schedule. Reduce the temperature in your bedroom. If you don't get enough sleep, it can lead to severe depression. If you have a personal health question that you want answered, Pam and Michelle encourage you to send them in to [email protected].

  • Stop Teaching Girls to Be Scared
When you tell a girl she should have fear, you're conditioning her to be timid.Boys should be adventurous, take risks and conquer their fears. This is instilled in male children from a very young age. Be brave, young man. Girls are often treated differently. Girls should be cautious, avoid adventure and try not to get hurt. The big problem is that the world is a big place and risk is necessary for success and survival. It's important to encourage girls to be brave and to master difficult and dangerous skills. Girls should try challenging physical activities to gain new skills, not shy away from them because someone told them they could get hurt. Let girls learn responsibility, problem-solving and confidence by accepting challenges that are typically considered appropriate for only boys. Author and former firefighter, Caroline Paul, shares her personal and professional gains from being encouraged to be resilient as a child.

  • Ask HER: Talc/Cancer Link, Shin Splints & Lack of Workout Results
Listen in as Pam and Michelle answer your personal health questions. It's YOUR time on HER Radio. Be a part of the show... send your comments and ask your questions by email, [email protected]. It's time to Ask HER. Today, on HER Radio you wanted to know: I just heard about the recent Johnson & Johnson lawsuit claiming the ingredient talc is linked to ovarian cancer. What is talc? Talcum powder is made from the mineral talc. Talc is made up of silicon, magnesium and oxygen. It absorbs moisture and cuts down on friction. In the 1970s, talcum powder contained asbestos, but it's been free of asbestos since then. A lot of these products are scented, so the fragrances can irritate people with allergies. It's been suggested that talc might cause ovarian cancer if it travels up the vagina, through the uterus and to the ovaries. The results of research are inconclusive. If you visit the American Cancer Society website, it indicates that talc can possibly increase your chance of cancer. With such mixed results, it's probably better to avoid talc for now. Talk to your pediatrician about the use of talc with babies. What are shin splints? How can I avoid these? Shin splints present as pain along the front of your lower leg. They're common in runners, dancers and people who are hammering their legs up and down. They often occur in athletes who intensify their routine. To prevent shin splints, gradually increase your intensity and try to work with a fitness professional before amping up your training or workout. Choose the right shoes to suit your sport. Runners should replace shoes every 350-500 miles. Consider using arch supports, especially if you're flat footed. Cross train with a sport that places less impact on your shins. Start new activities slower. Add strength training to your workout. To strengthen your lower legs, try calf raises. I do cardio all the time, but don't see any results. Why? You cannot outrun your fork. Don't chomp down a mountain of food after doing your cardio. Pitch the refined and processed foods. Eat strategically so it's satisfying to you. Make sure to incorporate resistance training in your workout and add High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) to your routine so you're doing cardio for a shorter time. If you have a personal health question that you want answered, Pam and Michelle encourage you to send them in to [email protected].
