  • Funeral Home Director Arrested for Alleged Fake Ashes Scandal in Jacksonville, Florida
A startling discovery has shaken the community as investigators, serving a search warrant at an abandoned funeral home, found three bodies inside a mortuary. This disturbing revelation has led to accusations against Marion Graham Mortuaries funeral home director, Elliot Maurice Graham, 49, who is now facing charges of grand theft and improper preservation of a human body.

The investigation unfolded following a complaint lodged with Florida's Chief Financial Officer, Jimmy Patronis's office, which oversees funeral homes and mortuaries to ensure they uphold the highest standards of respect and dignity when handling the remains of the deceased.

In response to the distressing situation, Patronis emphasized the importance of holding Graham accountable: "We are going to do everything possible to put this guy behind bars for a very long time. Nothing is more important than family – and as our loved ones pass away – it's always a difficult situation, and families are entrusting funeral directors to treat their loved ones with respect and dignity. These allegations indicate that this alleged criminal did the opposite."

The alleged misconduct includes the provision of fake ashes to grieving families, a betrayal of trust that has left many reeling. One family, in particular, expressed their shock and disappointment when they received what were supposed to be the ashes of their beloved grandmother. However, upon closer inspection, they discovered that what they had received bore no resemblance to human ashes.

Pauline Durden, whose family was affected by this deception, passed away six months ago. Her granddaughter, Johnesha Kemp, shared her dismay, stating, "They looked more like 'chalk or ground kitty litter' to me." Kemp also revealed that Graham had been unprofessional in their interactions, often giving them "the runaround."

However, Kemp expressed relief at Graham's arrest, stating, "It gave us a little bit of closure, knowing that we now have my grandma. The person who did this horrendous act is now behind bars, and the process is getting moved, and we can finally let it go and let her rest in peace."

The incident has raised concerns about the entire funeral industry's integrity and accountability. Patronis emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and any other death services professionals involved could face the revocation of their licenses or criminal charges.

Marion Graham Mortuaries Funeral home has been a fixture in the Jacksonville area since 1984, with Elliot Graham taking over from his father, Marion Graham, upon his passing in 2018. This unsettling case has ignited conversations about the need for increased oversight and regulation within the funeral industry to ensure that families can trust that their loved ones are treated with the utmost care, respect, and dignity during their final moments.

  • 13-Year-Old Accused of Murdering Grandfather Over Bus Dispute in Denver
In a shocking incident, a 13-year-old boy is facing accusations of murdering 60-year-old grandfather Richard Sanchez during an argument that escalated on a public bus last week. The dispute, which allegedly began over a blocked aisle, resulted in a tragic loss of life and has left the community in disbelief.

The incident occurred on a Saturday night at around 6:41 p.m. at the intersection of South Federal Boulevard and West Mississippi Avenue, just a few blocks away from Empower Field at Mile High, the home of the Denver Broncos. According to authorities, the argument between the teen and Sanchez escalated to the point where the teenager shot the elderly man.

Sanchez was immediately rushed to the hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced dead. Another individual sustained injuries during the altercation but did not require hospitalization.

Disturbingly, Sanchez's family was kept in the dark about his fate until they attempted to file a missing person report the following Monday. Joseph Chavez, Sanchez's grandson, expressed the family's shock and heartbreak, saying, "It's been hard because we didn't know where he was at, and the whole time, he was at the hospital, and they didn't contact us. Nobody was there with him during his last breath."

Chavez fondly remembered his grandfather as a "really happy dude," emphasizing the senselessness of the tragedy.

The Denver Police Department is holding the 13-year-old suspect under investigation for first-degree murder. The Denver District Attorney's Office will ultimately determine the charges against the teenager.

This shocking incident has highlighted safety concerns on Denver's public transit system, with reports showing that at least 178 passengers reported being assaulted or injured while using RTD transit in 2021 and the first two months of 2022, according to RTD records shared by Fox 31.

The tragic incident has also brought attention to the overall crime rate in Denver. As of 2023, the city has been averaging six homicides per month, raising concerns about public safety and the need for community vigilance.

As the investigation into this heart-wrenching incident continues, the Denver community is left grappling with the senseless loss of Richard Sanchez and the pressing need for safer public spaces for all residents.

  • That '70s Show Actor Danny Masterson Begins Prison Sentence at California State Prison-Corcoran
Former "That '70s Show" actor Danny Masterson, convicted of raping two women, has commenced his prison sentence at California State Prison-Corcoran, a facility with a history of housing notorious inmates, including cult leader Charles Manson.

Official records show that Danny Masterson, now identified as inmate No. BW7253, entered the Los Angeles County prison on December 27, marking the beginning of his incarceration following his conviction earlier last year.

Masterson's legal ordeal began in 2020 when he was initially arrested. In May, he was found guilty on two out of three counts of rape, which had occurred between 2001 and 2003. Subsequently, in September, a judge sentenced him to 30 years to life in prison for these heinous crimes. Last week, Masterson's request for bail pending appeal was denied by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine Olmedo, who expressed concerns about his potential flight risk.

Judge Olmedo underscored the gravity of Masterson's situation in her order, stating that without a successful appeal, the actor would "likely remain in custody for decades, and perhaps the rest of his life."

Notably, California State Prison-Corcoran has been associated with housing some of the most infamous criminals in history. Among its former inmates was Charles Manson, a cult leader convicted of nine murders. Manson spent nearly three decades in the Protective Housing Unit at this very prison until his death in 2017. His crimes included the gruesome murder of actress and model Sharon Tate Polanski, who was eight months pregnant at the time of her killing in 1969.

During Manson's incarceration, he was denied bail 12 times, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the risk he posed to society. Manson's case remains one of the most chilling chapters in the annals of true crime.

Leading up to Danny Masterson's sentencing in December, several of his former "That '70s Show" co-stars, including Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, wrote letters in support of the actor. However, these letters prompted public criticism, leading Kutcher and Kunis to issue apologies for their endorsements. Ashton Kutcher also stepped down from an anti-sex abuse organization co-founded with his ex-wife, Demi Moore, citing an "error in judgment."

As Danny Masterson embarks on his prison sentence at California State Prison-Corcoran, his case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences for those convicted of serious crimes. The facility's history, including its association with Charles Manson, adds a unique dimension to the actor's incarceration, which will undoubtedly be closely watched by the public and the legal community alike.

  • Attorneys Seek Change of Venue for Murder Trial of Bryan Kohberger, Citing Pretrial Publicity
Attorneys for Bryan Kohberger, the man charged with the brutal stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students in late 2022, have requested a change of venue for his upcoming trial. Kohberger's lead public defender, Anne Taylor, filed a motion this week, asserting that her client cannot receive a fair trial in Latah County, where the killings took place.

Taylor highlighted several key factors that she believes make it impossible to impanel an impartial jury in Latah County. These factors include the extensive and inflammatory pretrial publicity, allegations made about Kohberger in the media, the small size of the community, the sensationalized nature of the alleged crimes, and the severity of the charges he faces.

"A fair and impartial jury cannot be found in Latah County owing to the extensive, inflammatory pretrial publicity, allegations made about Mr. Kohberger to the public by media that will be inadmissible at his trial, the small size of the community, the salacious nature of the alleged crimes, and the severity of the charges Mr. Kohberger faces," Taylor wrote in the motion.

Bryan Kohberger, 29, a former criminal justice student at Washington State University in nearby Pullman, Washington, is facing four counts of murder in connection with the deaths of Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen, and Kaylee Goncalves. The gruesome murders occurred at a rental home near the University of Idaho campus in Moscow, Idaho. Prosecutors have indicated their intention to seek the death penalty if Kohberger is convicted.

Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson, on the other hand, opposes the request for a change of venue. He argued that Latah County deserves the opportunity to seat a jury since the crimes occurred within its jurisdiction. Furthermore, Thompson contended that relocating the trial to another location would have no substantial impact on potential jurors' familiarity with the case. The case has already gained national and international notoriety, drawing attention far beyond the boundaries of Moscow and Latah County.

"It's not Moscow, it's not Latah County — it's everywhere," Thompson stated. "So I don't think that a change of venue is going to solve any of these problems."

The decision regarding the change of venue request will ultimately rest with Judge John Judge of Idaho's 2nd Judicial District in Latah County. A hearing to evaluate the arguments from both sides is expected to be scheduled, with Taylor requesting that it takes place no earlier than the end of April.

As this high-profile murder case unfolds, the question of whether a change of venue is warranted remains a matter of legal debate. The court will have to weigh the arguments presented by the defense, who contend that a fair trial is unattainable in the local community due to extensive pretrial publicity, against the prosecution's assertion that the case's widespread notoriety transcends geographical boundaries. The final decision will have far-reaching implications for the future of Bryan Kohberger's trial and its impact on the community where the tragic events took place.

  • Cold Case Murder of Florida Real Estate Developer Shirley Brant Reopened with Hopeful Advances in DNA Technology
In a chilling unsolved mystery that has haunted North Miami Beach for 37 years, the murder of Shirley Brant, a successful commercial real estate developer, remains a painful chapter in the community's history. However, there's newfound hope as police reopen the case, counting on advancements in DNA technology to potentially bring justice to a grieving family and a perplexed community.

Detective Pam Denham of the North Miami Beach police, who reopened the case alongside her partner Yvette Darden, shared the significance of seeking closure: "It's so important to give these families closure, and it does happen. Cold cases are solved, and that's what we're hoping to do."

The tragic incident occurred on June 13, 1986, at around 4 p.m. when two intruders entered the second-floor office where Shirley Brant worked. At that moment, she was in the front reception area, engaged in a phone call with a client. According to Denham, a temporary employee present in the office witnessed the horrifying events. "There was a witness that was a temporary employee that she was inputting data into a computer system," Denham explained. "And the next thing she knew, Shirley screamed. And then when she turned around, she saw that one of the males was attempting to take the phone away from Shirley. Then, the witness heard her say, 'Don't shoot!' And then she was shot."

Denham believes the incident escalated rapidly, suggesting that during a struggle, the assailant may have unintentionally discharged the firearm. The witness, now deceased, described the suspects as well-dressed Black males in their early 20s, possibly dressed professionally to avoid drawing attention.

The perpetrators fled the scene after stealing cash and credit cards. Investigators are exploring the possibility that the same individuals might have been involved in a purse theft from another office a week prior, leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice.

Despite extensive media coverage and the circulation of a composite sketch of one suspect, the case remained cold. Previous detectives had followed up on leads, but none proved substantial enough to solve the case.

Shirley Brant's untimely death left a lasting scar on her family, especially her husband, local dentist Dr. Lawrence Brant, who "never got over it," as stated by her son, Dr. Steven Brant. Dr. Brant fondly remembered his mother as a "very, very talented woman" who transitioned from singing on cruise ships in the 1960s to becoming a real estate agent. She eventually excelled in the commercial real estate sector, despite facing initial skepticism due to her gender.

Shirley Brant and her husband were also actively involved in Jewish causes, even experiencing tense moments during a trip to Russia while advocating for Soviet Jews during the Refusenik movement.

Dr. Steven Brant last saw his mother two weeks before her tragic death, and he reflects on her absence in his life and the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Despite the decades that have passed, the family remains hopeful that the case will finally be resolved. Dr. Brant expressed the importance of finding closure and seeing justice served, emphasizing the indelible impact of such a loss.

Detective Denham echoes this sentiment, hoping that renewed interest in the case will encourage individuals with information to come forward. "People move away, and they're not as fearful as they would've been when it actually happened," she noted. "We're just hoping that somebody heard something, or knows something, and that they're willing to come forward."

Anyone possessing information related to Shirley Brant's murder is urged to contact the North Miami Beach Police Department at 305-949-5500 ext. 2521 or reach out to Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. As the case is reopened with modern investigative techniques, there is optimism that justice may yet be served for Shirley Brant and her grieving family.

  • Colleton County Clerk of Court, Becky Hill, Faces Uncertain Future Amid Controversy and Criminal Investigations
Becky Hill, who ran as the Republican candidate for Colleton County's clerk of court with promises of "leadership with integrity," is now confronting a turbulent crossroads in her political career as her first term nears its end. Hill's bid for reelection remains uncertain as she navigates two criminal investigations and severe criticism from former South Carolina Chief Justice Jean Toal.

Toal's criticism arose from allegations that Hill made inappropriate comments in front of jurors during the highly-publicized murder trial of former Hampton lawyer Alex Murdaugh in March. While Toal ultimately ruled that these comments did not warrant a retrial, she questioned the credibility of Hill's testimony, citing the clerk's susceptibility to the "siren call of celebrity."

The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) confirmed its ongoing investigations into Hill's interactions with the jury and potential misuse of her office, even after Toal's decision. SLED spokeswoman Renee Wunderlich emphasized that Toal's ruling did not affect the status of their active investigations.

Additionally, Hill's cellphone was seized in connection with a SLED investigation into her son, Jeffrey Hill, who served as Colleton County's IT director. Jeffrey Hill faced charges of wiretapping, and the investigation into his actions could have implications for Becky Hill's political future.

While the South Carolina Supreme Court holds the power to remove or reassign judges, it lacks explicit authority over elected clerks, and historically, it has not sought to remove any clerk from office this century, according to a Post and Courier review of court orders.

Becky Hill's ultimate fate in office hinges on Colleton County's voters, who may have the opportunity to weigh in during the state's June 11 primaries if she chooses to run for reelection. As of now, no candidates have publicly declared their intent to challenge Hill, and the Colleton County GOP has not clarified whether they would support her candidacy.

The Colleton County Democratic Party, on the other hand, is actively seeking potential challengers. Clarence Wiggins, the party's chair, stated that they are actively recruiting candidates and discussing the clerk election at every party meeting, indicating a potential shift in the political landscape.

Candidates must declare their intentions soon, with the filing period for office opening in mid-March and closing on April 1. Becky Hill has remained tight-lipped about her future plans and has not responded to inquiries from The Post and Courier. Her attorney, Justin Bamberg, has declined to comment on her situation.

Hill's credibility has faced scrutiny before Toal's critique. In December, she admitted to plagiarizing the introduction to her book, raising questions about her trustworthiness. On the witness stand, these concerns intensified as she denied making any comments about the case to jurors, directly contradicting the testimony of three deliberating jurors and one alternate who asserted that Hill discussed Alex Murdaugh's plans to testify in his own defense.

As Becky Hill contemplates her political future, the uncertainty surrounding her candidacy and the ongoing investigations cast a shadow over her promise of "leadership with integrity" in Colleton County's clerk of court office. The coming months will determine whether she can weather this storm and secure another term in office or if challengers will emerge to compete for the position in the primaries.

  • New Evidence Raises Doubts About Alibi of Accused Long Island Serial Killer's Wife
Attorney John Ray has called for a closer examination of the movements of Asa Ellerup, the wife of accused serial killer Rex Heuermann, in light of new evidence that appears to contradict her alibi. This development comes as Heuermann faces charges in connection with the murders of several women, including Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

Brainard-Barnes, a sex worker, went missing in July 2007, and her body was found in December 2010 on a Long Island beach, alongside the remains of three other women - Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Lynn Costello - all of whom Heuermann is accused of murdering.

Previously, District Attorney Ray Tierney's office had asserted that travel and cell phone records indicated that Ellerup and her children were out of state when these women disappeared, establishing their alibi.

However, during a symposium at St. John University, attorney John Ray presented new evidence challenging this claim. He questioned the use of the phrase "on or about" in court documents, suggesting that the actual timeline of Ellerup's whereabouts may differ from what was previously assumed.

Ray claimed to have received information indicating that Ellerup and her children may have checked into their Atlantic City hotel later than originally reported, potentially altering the timeline of their movements.

The bank statement, cited in the court documents, highlighted a transaction for the Flagship Hotel on July 14, 2007, with an arrival date listed as July 7, 2007 - just two days before Brainard-Barnes disappeared. However, the manager of the hotel allegedly stated that Ellerup checked in on July 17.

John Ray emphasized the significance of these discrepancies, stating, "If those records are correct, then the District Attorney is not right, and Asa Ellerup was not away on July 7, July 8, July 9, July 10," raising questions about her alibi.

Notably, hairs belonging to Ellerup and her children were found near the victims' remains, prompting Ray to call for a renewed focus on the family's potential involvement.

In response to these claims, Victoria Heuermann's attorney, Vess Mitev, criticized Ray's remarks as "unhinged" and "conclusively disproved by factual evidence." He suggested that Ray's statements were an attempt to gain attention.

District Attorney Ray Tierney's office declined to comment on the new evidence, and Asa Ellerup's attorney, Bob Macedonio, has not yet responded to these allegations.

Rex Heuermann, whose DNA was linked to the murders of the Gilgo Four, is under investigation in connection with various cold cases across the country. John Ray has consistently called for Asa Ellerup to be investigated as a potential accomplice in his alleged crimes.

Despite these developments, Heuermann's wife maintains her innocence and has denied any involvement in the murders. She has expressed shock and disorientation following her husband's arrest. However, tipsters have alleged that she was aware of Heuermann's activities and even participated in non-violent sexual encounters with him.

As the investigation into Rex Heuermann expands beyond Suffolk County, questions surrounding the alibis of those close to him continue to arise. The complex case leaves many unresolved questions and underscores the need for further examination. John Ray continues to call for the involvement of federal agencies to ensure a comprehensive investigation.

  • Pennsylvania Man Charged with Beheading Father and Posting Disturbing Video
A horrifying crime has shocked the quiet community of Middletown Township, Bucks County, as 32-year-old Justin Mohn has been charged with first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse in connection with the gruesome murder of his father, Michael F. Mohn. The incident, which involved a shocking YouTube video, unfolded on Tuesday night.

Police were alerted to the scene around 7 p.m. when the victim's wife returned home and discovered her husband's decapitated body covered in blood in their home on Upper Orchard Drive. The situation took a sinister turn when officers found the victim's head in a plastic bag inside a kitchen pot placed in a first-floor bedroom. A police affidavit revealed the presence of bloody rubber gloves, a machete, and a large kitchen knife in the bathtub on the second floor.

Middletown Township Police Captain Pete Feeney commented on the unusual nature of the crime, stating, "As far as the crime itself, it's not something we typically see here."

In addition to the horrific scene at the crime scene, Justin Mohn posted a disturbing 14-minute YouTube video titled "Mohn's Militia - Call to Arms for American Patriots." In the video, he held up his father's severed head, identified him by name, and expressed extremist views, including threats against federal agencies. He referred to himself as a militia leader and accused his father, a federal employee for 20 years, of being a traitor to the country. Mohn also discussed President Joe Biden in the video.

The video gained notoriety, with over 5,000 views before it was removed from the platform. Captain Feeney stated, "There's plenty of evidence to process, I'm sure they'll be reviewing that video."

Following a manhunt, police were able to track Justin Mohn by pinging his cell phone to Fort Indiantown Gap in Lebanon County, approximately 100 miles from the crime scene. Local police put the area on lockdown, and they later located the Toyota Corolla he had been driving abandoned outside the Indiantown Gap National Guard training facility. Mohn was apprehended on the base property, reportedly in possession of a firearm, but he was arrested without incident around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Middletown Township Police Chief Joseph Bartorilla reassured the community, saying, "I think the neighborhood can rest easy because I think they were a little uneasy for a while before they knew where the person of interest was."

Justin Mohn, who also faces a weapons possession charge, was arraigned early Wednesday and is being held without bail. His hearing is scheduled for February 8.

The Bucks County district attorney's office did not provide a public comment about the case on Wednesday. There was no attorney listed for Mohn in court records, and attempts to seek comment on his behalf were unsuccessful.

The motive behind this horrifying act is still under investigation as the community tries to come to terms with the shocking events that unfolded in their midst.

  • Alleged Killer Brian Walshe to be Sentenced in Federal Art Fraud Case
Brian Walshe, who is facing charges related to the alleged murder of his wife Ana Walshe, is scheduled to be sentenced next month in a federal art fraud case. The decision comes as a result of an agreement reached between his defense lawyer and the prosecutor, aimed at resolving the impact of accusations regarding his theft from his father's estate on his federal sentence.

Walshe, a resident of Cohasset, was charged with the sale of two counterfeit Andy Warhol paintings in 2016. Investigators believe that he obtained authentic paintings from a friend and attempted to sell replicas on eBay using photographs. He entered a guilty plea in 2021 in connection with this case.

However, the sentencing process was delayed due to allegations that he had embezzled over $100,000 from his father's bank accounts approximately three months after his father's demise in 2018, as previously reported by Boston.com.

During a recent brief hearing, Walshe's criminal lawyer, Tracy Miner, and prosecutor Timothy Moran informed the judge of their intention to present facts related to the probate issue. They sought a decision from the judge regarding whether these actions amounted to obstruction of justice in connection with the federal case.

Brian Walshe's final sentencing in the federal art fraud case is currently scheduled for February 22. However, he was not present in court during the recent hearing. Walshe remains in custody, facing charges related to the alleged murder of his wife and the disposal of her body.

The case continues to garner attention as it combines allegations of art fraud with more serious charges related to the suspected murder of Ana Walshe. The legal proceedings will determine the outcome of both cases, shedding light on the extent of his involvement in the alleged art fraud and the circumstances surrounding his wife's tragic death.
