There’s a problem with the way we’ve been taught to market and sell—it no longer matches how buyers actually buy things.
Think about it—when you’re not talking to someone face-to-face, where do most of your conversations happen?
Yup, that's right—they happen over messaging channels like iMessage, Messenger, Slack, WhatsApp, etc.
People love communicating with messaging because it’s fast, easy, and actually feels like a conversation—but most business (and enrollment teams!) are still forcing people to jump through endless hoops before a conversation can ever take place (looking at you, inquiry form!).
Enter chatbots and conversational marketing.
On this week's episode, Zach sits down with Mark Kilens, the VP of Content and Community at Drift (the first ever conversational marketing platform), to discuss how colleges and universities can attract, engage, and delights prospects, applicants, and students with conversational marketing strategies.
Tune in for an incredibly inspiring and insightful chat about the future of student recruitment and strategic enrollment marketing — and why conversational marketing is especially pertinent for this next academic year.

Enrollment management teams spend tens of thousands of dollars a year on software to collect data on how prospects move through the applicant journey.
But how often is this data actually leveraged to its full potential?
And how often are admissions and marketing teams consulting these insights in realtime to better the performance of their recruitment campaigns?
On this week's episode of the podcast, Zach sits down with JC Bonilla, Chief Analytics Officer at Element451, to discuss the lack of data-backed decision making in higher ed and what admissions leaders can do to help their teams become "intelligent admissions officers."
Tune in for an exciting conversation on why the key differentiator between the best and worst enrollment management teams in 2020/2021 will be in how these teams strategically leverage prospect, inquiry, and applicant data.

For years, marketing teams at colleges and universities have been output focused.
Their primary goal has been to serve enrollment management, advancement, student services, etc., by taking work orders and producing deliverables like videos, email templates, and billboards with little-to-no accountability surrounding the ROI of their efforts.
But Rob Zinkan, a Vice-President at RHB (a higher education consultancy), believes that COVID-19 will bring about the end of this era.
On this week's episode, Zach and Rob discuss what the future of higher education marketing communications will look like and, specifically, what will distinguish the "winning" MarComm teams from the "losing" teams in a post-COVID world.
Before RHB, Rob worked in higher ed marketing for over two decades, at institutions large and small. He also regularly writes on all things strategic marketing for Inside Higher Ed.
This episode is a must-listen for any marketing and communications professional looking to maintain any meaningful budget in AY 20/21 and beyond.

Over the last year, ad recall on social media increased by 15% amongst all high school grades — according to Glacier's 2020 Gen Z Media Report.
Gen Zs are not just using social media to communicate with friends or for entertainment; they’re using it to rapidly access meaningful information.
What's more interesting?
Based on the results of college and university ad recall surveys conducted by Glacier, the three most expensive advertising channels (music streaming, television, and billboards) report the lowest ad recall while the three most affordable channels (social media, posters in high schools, and display ads) report the highest recall!
On this week’s episode, Zach Busekrus chats with Matt Diteljan, the Co-Founder and CEO of Glacier, the largest high school advertising network and the largest student influencer network in North America, about the state of postsecondary marketing to high school students.
