It’s episode 19 of the I Hate Greens Beans podcast and Some Guy in Austin and I are taking walk down Memory Lane. We rank the men on The Bachelor!
Well, it’s more like an aggressive hike, because we talk about past bachelors from the beloved reality show on ABC. Did you know there have been twenty-one men who have willingly taken a journey to find love? That’s a lot of seasons!
We debate our favorite bachelor, our not so favorite bachelor, and memorable moments from past years.
I talk about the girl who dressed like Peaches-N-Cream Barbie.
We also discuss Courtney Robertson’s book.
Remember that time I interviewed Groban in Los Angeles…when he didn’t want to talk to anyone…
And SGIA’s favorite season he loves to hate — poor, unfortunate Jake Pavelka.
I hope you enjoy the show!
I am a fan of musicals. That’s weird to admit. It’s like saying, “Hey y’all, I hate green beans.”
After recording this podcast with my friend Stephanie, I forgot how much I love musicals. Choosing my favorites was next to impossible, and as the podcast goes on, I realize there are beloved musicals that I completely forgot. Dreamgirls, for one. Jennifer Hudson and Bey? Yes, please. Also, Rock of Ages. Tom Cruise as an 80s rock star? I’ll allow it.
Stephanie and I dig deep. Here are a few things we discuss:
Lina Lamont’s diction training – Singing in the Rain
How I had a crush on all the boys in Newsies
OUR LOVE OF CONRAD!
Does Elphaba from Wicked wash her green makeup off every night?
The fact that the Lion King‘s opening “Circle of Life” number gives us chills
I like Zac Ephron singing “Ladies Choice” from Hairspray. No judgement.
How the “Happy Little Working Song” from Enchanted is both enchanted and gross
Here’s a link to Stephanie’s favorite version of Cinderella
And our affection for the “Elephant Love Song Medley” from Moulin Rouge
Plus many, many more. I hope you like it!
When I asked Some Guy in Austin if he wanted our first non-Bachelor related podcast to focus on John Travolta, he shouted “YES” before I could finish my question. Needless to say, Tony, Danny, and Bud shaped my adolescent self in the ’80s and the same can be said for my friend. We have a ball talking about our favorite John Travolta memories.
Saturday Night Fever was formative for SGIA. Behold the power of disco:
Can’t you imagine SGIA dancing the same moves? Oh, you can’t? Well here’s a little video to help you visualize…
We also discuss the Staying Alive strut. In case you have no idea how it’s done, here’s a tutorial:
Y’all know that Grease is one of my favorite musicals, and you probably also know that I played Cha Cha DiGregorio in my high school musical. I wore a black square dance skirt and my mom’s red scrunchie. The man I’m standing with was our principal Mr. Knight who sang “Beauty School Drop-Out.”
Not only was Grease the word, it was EVERYTHING to me growing up. The music, the dancing, John Travolta’s chin dimple. It was all good.
And then Urban Cowboy came along and the everyday vernacular of the Ray household changed. You can read all about it HERE.
Some Guy also shares about the time he met UNCLE BOB (a.k.a. Barry Corbin and the old man in every Hallmark movie) …
…and I share about the time I actually met John Travolta. Sadly, the proof is in storage tucked away in a box hiding behind a rather large couch. Don’t think I didn’t try to dig it out, because I did. Oh how I wish you could see my face. You’ll know why after you listen.
And finally, here’s a picture of us trying to mirror a painting of Bud and Sissy in some cheesy bar in Austin.
We love John Travolta. We think he’s electrifying and hope you do too.
It’s almost time! The fall TV 2017 grid is looking good, don’t you think? Lara and I discuss what shows we are excited to see return, which shows we are binging, and if there are any new shows worth watching.
First of all, I’d like to thank Knox and Jaime over at the Popcast for producing an awesome show depicting what they are watching this fall season. I adore those two and have no idea what shows they are talking about because I tend to lean toward the CW verses the Handmaid’s Tale. They are normal adults. I am not.
I have problems, I know, that’s why I stick to network television.
Of course, Outlander (on Starz) is an exception to the rule. This is why:
Hello Mr. Fraser.
I think I also need to remind everyone that the show Poldark is on PBS. Since Downton Abbey is no longer on the air, we have a tendency to forget what great shows are on this channel. Shows with folks who look like this:
Hello Mr. Poldark.
I know this looks like I have a thing for rugged men with raggedy locks. That is a true statement.
Lara gives an RIP shout-out to Pitch and we both agree that Jess and Nick’s kiss is still one of the best in TV kissing history. And if you have no idea what clips we are talking about when we mention our favorite parts from This Is Us, you can watch them HERE and HERE.
Also, check out a longer post about more shows I’m excited to watch in the fall by clicking HERE.
Enjoy the podcast!
Can you believe we’ve reached the finale of Bachelor in Paradise? It seems like just yesterday we were shutting down and speculating what happened in a certain hot tub. And now here we are with a newly engaged couple on our hands, proving that the BIP franchise is as successful as successful can be.
Some Guy in Austin and I break down the entire finale for you. We talk about couples, one dramatic love triangle, and how we never want to be on the show Naked and Afraid. There’s also a charming tangent showcasing Elsa and her Frozen friends.
Enjoy!
PS: If you haven’t read the recap yet, you can find it here. Have fun!
When I heard the news about Arie being the new Bachelor, I immediately texted all my friends with a simple statement that read:
“I FULLY SUPPORT THIS DECISION.”
Some members of Bachelor Nation do not agree with me. Others are completely in my camp. They know I know what I’m talking about due to the fact that I have shoved this YouTube clip down their throats at least once a season for the past five years.
Sometimes I just watch it for fun. That’s not weird. When you write about The Bachelor for a living, it’s called research.
Some Guy in Austin and I have many thoughts about Arie and this out of the blue announcement. I even read some of your reactions on Twitter and Facebook! It’s so much fun.
I hope you laugh as much as I did. Enjoy!
After writing about what we went through during Hurricane Harvey, I decided to tackle the “what now?” via podcast. The show is full of useful information about what’s actually happening today, what we are expecting later, and how we are going to stay strong in the meantime.
My roommate Lara and I discuss how you can help in specific ways, in general ways, and how our friend Alissa is mobilizing in creative ways in Fort Worth. Here are a few links that we discuss in the episode that you need to know:
Arise Africa is a ministry that works with vulnerable kids in Zambia. You may remember when Lara and I went on a mission trip there last year and I made her hold a rabbit, while I walked around with a snake on my shoulders like I was Britney Spears.
Alissa is the Executive Director of Arise Africa and has taken it upon herself to go above and beyond supporting us in Houston with a six-week old baby in tow. She’s Superwoman.
Here’s the Amazon wish list that she has put together full of REQUESTED ITEMS. Simply purchase whatever you like and Alissa will make sure it gets to us. She’s that cool and that passionate.
If you are in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and would like to drop off donations, Alissa is taking them at the Arise Africa office. They just moved in today and decided to shove all of their furniture in a corner so they can make room for stuff headed for Houston. Can you believe that?
Arise Africa
Just ignore the paint fumes…
Here’s the link to our own church website where we are accepting financial donations. All proceeds will go to individuals in need who have been affected by the flood.
Here’s a link to the Red Cross.
Here’s a link to my fake boyfriend JJ Watt’s YouCare page. He’s raising all sorts of money for Hurricane Harvey victims.
Keep us in your prayers. Love ya, mean it!
TEXAS FOREVER
On the twelfth episode of the iHateGreenBeans podcast, Some Guy in Austin and I discuss the Demario and Corinne scandal. As a lawyer, Some Guy has some interesting thoughts on the topic. We also talk about how the arrival of D-Lo and Sarah shook up the entire dynamic of the group. And finally, we debate on proper half-birthday etiquette.
(Spoiler: That’s not a thing)
Enjoy the show!
My sister Jamie joins me on this episode of the iHateGreenBeans podcast and we discuss our favorite 80s movies! We have a few disclaimers, so make sure to extend a little grace when you don’t hear us drone on an on about Dirty Dancing or 16 Candles.
I hope you enjoy the show!
You like bonuses, right? Well here you go! Episode 10 of the iHateGreenBeans podcast recaps episode 2 of Bachelor in Paradise, season 4. Some Guy in Austin and I talk about Carly and Evans’ wedding, social media, who we think will get roses, and how it’s important to find your puzzle (not puzzle piece…an actual puzzle) in life.
Also, here’s a link to Some Guy’s review that he mentions on the podcast of Courtney Robertson’s book that came out in 2014.
I hope you enjoy the show!
