It’s my sobriety birthday! I have been sober for 11 years. So for today, I’ve decided to reflect back on my struggles with addiction and my journey through sobriety. Back then, my only solution was to use! It was my go to celebration and my numbing self medication. No longer! I have off days and struggles but my sobriety has created a life for me beyond my wildest dreams. All I really needed was a bit of willingness and the desire to change.

Food is a tricky tricky subject. I am lucky to have not grown up with any significant issues around food but when I am in crisis mode, I tend to lose weight. This time around, I am monitoring the situation, working with my doctor, and careful to eat healthily and consistently. But when I was young, that was not the case! Let’s talk about my abusive relationship at 18 and when I had never been skinnier.

I was horribly nervous to go to work today. Why? Well, this will be the first time I’m back at our studio since the separation. Will it be awkward? Tense? Can we even get done what we need to? The dynamics have shifted dramatically but maybe this is an opening for something positive? Only time will tell. All I do know is that I love filming comedy videos and making people laugh. And that will never change.

Throughout my recovery I have experienced some miraculous, almost unbelievable moments and I want to share them with you! I’m pretty sure I was struck by a God shot this week when I really really needed it. The wisdom I’ve gained from just listening to these signs in my life is incredible. I’ve never really opened up about being bisexual until now. It feels great to talk about it! I’m also realizing how important visibility really is. Opening up with you has allowed me to further develop as a whole individual as well as live a more honest life. Love you!

Sharing this separation with the world has been HARD! And it feels like everywhere I turn someone is judging how I'm reacting to it. I'm not reacting to it. I'm IN IT. I keep reminding myself, everyone can think whatever they want, it doesn’t matter! They don't know the whole story. It’s time to stop listening to other people’s opinions and start following our own intuition! And never forget you don’t have to handle things how everyone EXPECTS you to! Just do YOU.

Here is what I’ve learned: your happiness and your self worth is an INSIDE JOB! Self love has not come easy! I used to believe the meanest comments and critiques about myself. It stops now! Defining yourself by your job, your relationship, your looks, ANYTHING, is a losing game! That is conditional love. NO THANKS! I am embracing who I am and loving what I do NOW. Nothing else matters.

I've put a STOP to ignoring my friends, family, and community! My relationship was all consuming. It overtook my mind almost like an addiction! But now I’m no longer allowing my romantic relationship to become my WHOLE life. I am finding the POWER in reaching out to and connecting with my women's group, my sponsor, and myself. I’m focusing on my community and spending my time checking in with those around me to keep me going. I am capable and strong and surrounded by amazing people. Acceptance is a BEAUTIFUL thing! No seriously, I’ve been taking life as it is this week. Nothing more and nothing less! My eyes are opened to MY OWN weaknesses, and I’m no longer trying to change what I cannot control. I’m beginning to find joy by accepting my reality and choosing to stay IN THE MOMENT.
