New Indigenous Museum in Southern Taiwan

There are many kinds of museums (博物館) you can visit in Taiwan.

Whether you're interested in science, art, or history, there's a place where you can go and learn about them!

In a few years, there will be a new museum where people can discover more about Taiwan's indigenous people (原住民).

The central government has agreed to build the National Indigenous Peoples' Museum in Kaohsiung, near Chengcing Lake.

And it's expected to open in 2027.

It will be Taiwan's first national museum for indigenous peoples based on their storytelling (故事).

The museum will preserve and try to popularize indigenous languages.

博物館將保存並努力推廣原住民語言。

And it will introduce the lives and cultures of indigenous people to visitors.

The exhibitions revolve around themes including arts and crafts, contemporary lifestyles, traditions, and ecology.

展覽主題包括原住民的藝術和手工藝、現代生活方式、傳統和生態。

The museum will help showcase (展示) and promote (推動) Taiwan's many indigenous cultures.

UK Builds "Buzz Stops" to Help Insect Population

When was the last time you saw a bee in the city?

I don't know about you, but I haven't seen an urban (都市) bee in the last few years.

Many experts believe that the global insect population is dwindling (減少).

Insects, especially bees and butterflies, are important pollinators (傳粉者) that help grow flowers, trees, and crops.

But humans have taken over (佔領了) more and more land for cities, roads, and farms, leaving fewer green spaces for pollinators.

That's why bus stops in the UK and in Europe are getting living roofs (活屋頂), in order to help important insects.

A living roof is a small garden on the roofs of bus stops in big cities, with flowers and plants chosen to attract bees and butterflies.

活屋頂是大城市公車站屋頂上的一個小花園，上面種著可以吸引蜜蜂和蝴蝶的花草。

The company Clear Channel manages bus stops in the UK, and it's working with the government to install (設置) at least 1,000 bee bus stops.

Clear Channel has already installed bee bus stops in many places in Europe.

Research shows these "buzz stops" have been helping increase bee populations in the Netherlands.

研究表明這些"嗡車站"有幫助增加荷蘭的蜜蜂數量。

And the little gardens can also help lower city temperatures (降低城市溫度).

A wildlife expert says we're living through a nature and climate crisis, and we need to use every tool we have to solve the problem.

Finland Aims to Change the Way We Make Clothes

Recycling is important to help reduce the amount of trash we produce, and help the environment.

Take a moment to think about it: what are some things you use every day that can be recycled?

Plastic containers… cardboard and paper… metal cans… glass bottles…

How about the clothes you're wearing?

Clothes can be made from different materials (材料), depending on the style and function.

According to the Global Fashion Agenda organization, an estimated 92 million tons of textile waste is created around the world each year.

全球每年約有 9200 萬噸紡織廢料產生。

Most of that textile waste is burned or sent to landfills, polluting the environment.

大部分紡織廢料被焚燒或送往垃圾填埋場，污染環境。

But many start-up companies in Finland are trying to change that.

Like Infinited Fiber, a company that makes clothing fiber from old textiles.

像 Infinited Fiber，一家用舊紡織品製造服裝纖維的公司。

The recycled fiber (再生纖維) is called Infinna.

Infinna is made by shredding (切碎) old textiles and removing synthetic (合成的) materials and dyes.

Then, they extract cellulose (提取纖維素) to create a soft, fluffy, and cream-colored material that resembles wool (類似於羊毛).

The new fiber can then be used to make anything from shirts and dresses to jeans.

The company says the technology has been available since the 1980s, but now it's possible to mass-produce (批量生產) the recycled fiber.

And it's not the only company making recycled textiles in Finland.

Many other Finnish companies are looking at ways to produce new recycled textiles, while cutting down on emissions (減少排放).

They say recycled fibers could become mainstream (主流) within ten to 15 years.
