Intermittent Fasting (0:00:00)
Do the numbers 16:8 mean anything to you? If so, you probably know about intermittent fasting, a health trend that has been gaining traction over the last few years. While some endorse it as a great way to lose weight and increase growth hormones, others are a bit more skeptical about its health benefits. Just like with anything health related, it’s good to get a professional’s opinion before you take the leap into a new health pattern. So, we invited Liz Weinandy, a registered and licensed dietician nutritionist at Ohio State University, on the show today to speak about the pros and cons of intermittent fasting.
Quarantine Kids Got Talent (0:18:01)
2 seasons. Hundreds of Submissions. Collin could have never imagined his quarantine talent show would get so much publicity and interaction. Collin Kartchner is a social media activist public speaker, and founder of the organization hashtag Save the Kids. He can usually be found in public schools, educating children of all ages about the dangers and benefits of social media. But with complete shutdown of schools across the country, he decided to use his time hosting and judging Quarantine Kids Got Talent on Instagram. Here to tell us all about it is Collin Kartchner!
Turn Down the Noise and Stress (0:37:32)
I enjoy, in fact I need, my quiet time. It’s rejuvenating and it provides an escape from our noisy world. Modern life is full of sounds... including but not limited to the constant buzz of our phones, the hum of the TV, and chattering kids. It’s not easy to turn off all of this noise, because it’s characteristic of our ever-moving lives. But have you ever considered how much stress and health problems these unwanted sounds might cause? Florence Williams has definitely thought about this. She’s an author and journalist that researched the negative impacts of noise and what people are doing to combat this invisible pollution.
Handling Teen Drama (0:50:36)
Sometimes when our kids get into drama, whether it’s a fight with friends or a teacher giving them a bad grade, it can be a parent’s instinct to get involved. We want to defend our kids, of course! But sometimes that can just make things worse. So, how can we help our kids through drama without getting wrapped up in it ourselves? Here to share her advice with us is Lisa Damour—child psychologist and author.
Tapping (1:10:32)
One of our favorite things is receiving topic suggestions from our listeners. We want to know what you’re curious about and ask the questions that will help you get the answers you need.  Recently, one of our listeners sent us an email about tapping, and I don’t mean tap dancing. Tapping is a counseling technique that some people use to help them reduce anxiety, stress, PTSD, and depression. We know a lot of people struggle with issues like these, so we want to find out more about this unique form of intervention, how it works, and what the benefits are. We’ve invited Dawson Church, an expert on Emotional Freedom Techniques with a special emphasis on tapping, onto the show to tell us more about this.
Weekend Review (1:26:59)
Lisa and Richie talk about what there is to do this weekend while we’re all stuck at home, from the newest shows coming to streaming services to the New York Times Bestsellers List.
