In 1992, Christy Davis, 17, was shot and killed during an attempted robbery at her home. Deon Haynes, 16, was sentenced to life w/o the possibility of parole for Christy’s murder. After the verdict, Christy’s family attempted to put the pieces of their lives back together, but in 2012, a Supreme Court turned everything on its head. The Supreme Court ruling meant that Deon would be entitled to a re-sentencing hearing because he was 16 when he committed the murder and sentencing him to life w/o parole violated the Eighth Amendement of the Constitution (cruel & unusual punishment). This new ruling highlights an interesting question: do teens who commit crimes that mandate a life w/o possibility of parole sentence deserve a second chance at life — beyond the prison walls?

On March 14, 2007, Shamaia was in the midst of her regular adulting routine: wake up, go to work, get off of work, rinse and repeat. Unfortunately, a customer of hers permanently disrupted this routine. The police close in within two months of Shamaia's murder/disappearance.. but what's something else that sends shockwaves? The fact that the culprit lived a seemingly uneventful/normal life as a wealthy white "family" man.

Saleha Huuda was living the life of a typical 21 year old: hanging out with friends and a new boyfriend, enjoying her last year of college and keeping up with hobbies, like cheerleading, on the side. Sadly, just months before she was slated to graduate, her life was stolen by some truly evil and demented people (yes, plural). While her case is solved, it presents a startling narrative and cautionary tale laced in jealousy and domestic violence.

Although Georgia Lee Moses (Georgia Leah) was only 12 years old, she had the weight of adult responsibilities on her shoulders. By Spring of 1997, Georgia had dropped out of 6th grade and had been introduced to a lifestyle that no 12 year old could legally consent to. On or around August 13, 1997, Georgia was abducted, raped and murdered. Her naked body was discovered approximately 9 days later, on August 22nd, near Highway 101 and nearly 30 miles from where she was last seen. Georgia was *not* reported missing by any adults during that time period. In a strange twist of faith, it was her sister, Angel (7 at the time), that reported Georgia missing — also coincidentally on August 22nd, after CPS/Cops/DA (?) visited her home for unrelated reasons. Though a sketch has made its rounds, suspects have never been publicly named. Her sister, Angel, believes that justice has no expiration date — and she is fighting to ensure that that statement rings true for her sister.
If you have any information regarding the abduction, rape and/or murder of Georgia, please email: [email protected] or contact the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department at 707-565-2650.
