In this lesson, I will introduce two sentence-ending particles called "ne" and "yo".

Sentence-ending particles are used to show or imply your feeling or mood.

あのひと　は　さとうさん　です　ね。

That is Mr. Sato, right?

*ね is used to seek the listener's confirmation or agreement to what you are saying.

メアリーさん　は　アメリカ人　です　よ。

Mary is an American. 

*よ indicates that you are confident of what you are saying and want a listener believe it.

In this case you are confident that Mary is an American.

In this lesson, I will introduce you how to make negative statement of X is Y.

Affirmative:

さとうさん　は　がくせい　です。

Negative:

さとうさん　は　がくせい　ではありません。

Affirmative:

わたし　の　はは　は　きょうし　です。

Negative:

わたし　の　はは　は　きょうし　ではありません。

*ではありません can be じゃありません as well. じゃ is contraction of では. じゃ cannot be used for formal writing but for conversation.

*ありません can be replaced with ないです

"mo" is used as "also" or " too" in English.

X は Y です。

Z も Y です。

も indicate the similarity between X and Z.

さとうさん　は　がくせい　です。

Mr. Sato is a student.

すずきさん　も　がくせい　です。

Mr. Suzuki is a student, too.

わたし　は　にほんじん　です。

I am a Japanese.

すずきさん　も　にほんじん　です。

Mr. Suzuki is a Japanese, too.

わたし　の　はは　は　きょうし　です。

My mother is a teacher.

わたし　の　ちち　も　きょうし　です。

My father is a teacher, too.

そこです。or そこにあります。

There.

だれ　が　あなた　の　せんせい　ですか。

Who is your teacher?

だれ　が　さとうさん　ですか。

Who is Mr. Sato?

これ　は　だれ　の　とけい　ですか。

Whose watch is this?

それ　は　さとうさん　の　とけい　です。

That is Mr. Sato's watch.

In this lesson, I will introduce how to say "this thing" and "that one" in Japanese.

これ: the thing you are referring to is close to you 

それ the thing you are referring to is close to the person you are talking to 

あれ the thing you are referring to is neither close to you nor the person you are talking to

これ　は　わたし　の　とけい　です。

This is my watch.

それ　は　さとうさん　の　とけい　です。

That is Mr. Sato's watch.

どれ　が　あなた　の　とけい　ですか。

Which one is your watch?

*どれ means "Which one"  and used for question sentence.

In this lesson, I will introduce one of the particle called "no", which connects nouns.

For "noun A の noun B", noun B, the second noun always shows the main idea. Noun A, the first noun add more information on noun B, the main idea.

アメリカ　の　だいがく

University in the US

What kind foods do you like?

*What is pronounced either なに or なん depending on what word is connected.
