高雄迎接新的捷運線

Kaohsiung to Open New MRT Line

Did you hear? Kaohsiung's MRT is getting a new line.

But it probably won't be ready to ride until 2030.

However, development (發展) of the line will start next year.

The total investment (投資、資金) in the new project is expected to be 53.3 billion NT.

The line will run from the terminal station (終點站) of the Kaohsiung MRT red line to the Linyuan Industrial Park.

It will have seven stops in total.

And it will also run through two other important industrial parks (工業園區): the the New Material Circular Industrial Park and the Linhai Industrial Park.

These are all places that develop technologies (技術) that Taiwan sells around the world.

In fact, the three parks produce semiconductors (半導體). These are electronic components (零件) used everywhere in everyday life, from trains and cars, to TVs and ATMs.

這三個工業園區製作半導體。半導體用途很多，會出現在車子，電視及提款機裡。

And Taiwan is the world's number one producer of semiconductors.

So making sure workers can get to the industrial parks easily is important.

Kaohsiung's deputy mayor is hoping the new MRT line will help reduce traffic accidents (車禍), too.

It will be built along a road that is very busy.

The deputy mayor said on average, 27 people die on this road each year because of traffic accidents.

It's probably down to the amount of trucks that use it, driving to and from the industrial parks.

The government said special tickets will be available with a discounted price (特價) once the line opens.

So people will be able to get along the road cheaply and safely.

That's great!

Indian Couple Float to Wedding amid Floods

There have been very serious floods in southern India in recent weeks.

印度最近幾個禮拜發生了很嚴重的水災。

The floods have caused landslides (土石流), and at least 25 people have died in the state of Kerala.

Thousands of people have been evacuated (撤離) to special places where they will live until they can find new homes.

After natural disasters (災情) happen, people have to find ways to carry on with their daily lives.

One couple in Kerala decided the floods weren't going to ruin their special day.

Akash and Aishwarya were set to get married on October 18th.

Their wedding was scheduled (安排) to take place at a small temple (寺廟) in their village of Thalavady.

The temple was flooded, but not enough to shut it down.

And the couple decided they wanted their wedding to go ahead!

But the road from their home to the temple was covered in water.

So they couldn't go on foot or by car.

They had to come up with an inventive (創新的) way to get there.

And they decided to go by boat!

Well, it wasn't a real boat.

It was a giant aluminium cooking pot (鐵鍋子) that could fit two people in it.

Another temple close to the couple's house lent it to them.

And some men helped pull them along.

Pictures have been posted to the internet of the couple happily drifting (漂浮) along the water.

The bride said their special day had turned into a wedding she never could have imagined.

Daniel Craig Heading to Broadway

An actor is taking the stage once again.

Daniel Craig has just concluded (結束) his time as James Bond.

He has already announced that he will take on a Broadway role next.

Craig will play the title character in Macbeth.

丹尼爾·克雷格剛演完007，很快就要去百老匯演戲。

Craig's run on Broadway will begin next April.

His time as Macbeth will last for 15 weeks.

He will work with the same director (導演) that he did in 2016.

Back then, the two of them did Othello, also by Shakespeare.

克雷格將當馬克白主角，明年四月底在紐約開始演。

Kaohsiung will open a new MRT line.

It will help reduce traffic on a road between industrial parks.

But it won't be open until 2030.

So they floated in an aluminium pot!
