Kaohsiung Elementary Students' Win Gold for Innovative Invention

When drivers on the road hear this sound, what should they do?

The answer is…move out of the way (讓開)!

But sometimes it can be hard for drivers to know what direction (方向) an ambulance (救 護 車) is coming from.

That's why a group of talented young inventors (發明家) from Aiguo Elementary School in Kaohsiung City created a "Vehicle Position Warning System" (車輛方位警示系統) to make roads safer for ambulances.

This amazing invention (發明) won the gold medal (奪金牌) in the 2023 International Exhibition for Young Inventors Taiwan Contest!

This group of fifth-grade students, including Xie Rutin, Zhang Fangyu, and Shi Yuntong, worked together under the guidance of their teachers (在老師的指導下).

They designed a system that uses special technology called RFID, which helps to show the direction of an ambulance at intersections.

他們設計了一個使用 RFID 技術的系統，可以顯示救護車在路口的行進方向。

This lets drivers and pedestrians (行人) to quickly and safely yield (讓路) to the ambulance.

And it helps to prevent accidents (有助於防止事故發生).

The school's principal says the invention was inspired by the students' daily observations and their concerns for the safety of ambulances on the road.

He praised (稱讚) the students for their thoughtful and innovative ideas.

Chocolate Factory Fined Over After Workers Fall Into Mixing Container

A chocolate factory in the US state of Pennsylvania (美國賓夕法尼亞州) got into big trouble in June 2022.

Two workers fell into a big container (容器) of chocolate!

These workers were hired to clean the containers, but they didn't get the right safety training (安全訓練).

Thankfully, it wasn't full of chocolate when the two workers fell in.

But there was still enough that they got stuck inside the container.

The rescuers had to cut open a hole at the bottom of the container to free the workers.

One worker was hurt, and had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter (直升機).

Now, a safety organization called the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, is saying the accident was "serious."

After almost a year of investigating the incident, OSHA decided to fine (罰款) Mars Wrigley, the company that owns the factory.

They had to pay a fine of more than $14,500 US dollars because of the accident.

Never-Before-Seen Footage of Titanic Released

Everyone's heard of the Titanic, right?

It was a big and fancy cruise liner (又大又豪華的郵輪), and people at the time called it the safest ship in the world.

But while the Titanic was making its first voyage across the Atlantic Ocean (大西洋) in 1912, it hit a big iceberg (大冰山).

The iceberg made a huge hole in the side of the ship and water started pouring in (湧入).

The ship sank and…it became a tragedy that shocked the world.

船沉了… 成了震驚世界的悲劇。

Around 1,500 people lost their lives (喪生).

Scientists have been studying the Titanic for many years.

And now, they are going to share 80 minutes of never-before-seen (前所未見的) video of the Titanic!

The video was recorded in 1986 by a group from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and a French ocean exploration team.

這段影片是 1986 年由伍茲霍爾海洋研究所的一個小組和一個法國海洋勘探隊拍攝的。

They found the Titanic in 1985, deep in the ocean, 3.6 kilometers down. (3.6 公里深).

The video was taken by a team of three divers (潛水員).
