Kaytlyn Gerbin is a legend of mountain, trail, and ultra running; a literal trailblazer for women in sport, leading by example and demonstrating what's possible if you're willing to try.
She's been competing at the top of the sport for close to a decade, but recently took a full two years away from racing to undergo a major hip surgery and give birth to her daughter!
The ultra-landscape has changed in that time, and Kaytlyn herself has changed as well.
In this episode, Lauren and Kaytlyn discuss her origin story - from a Midwestern snowboarder to a Northwest mountain athlete; the time and process of learning mountaineering skills and safety; discovering trail running, and discovering her talents for it; how sponsorship, most specifically from The North Face, has changed her life and career; her surgery, pregnancy, and recovery; her return to racing (and winning) at this year's Cascade Crest 100; and what's next in this new chapter.
