These guys are surf industry pros going back decades, Huntington Beach icons, ripping surfers, funny guys and hosts of the wildly popular L8Night with Choccy podcast @l8nightwithchoccy
With diverse backgrounds, these guys connected early in HB and have been friends ever since. Jay was a professional surfer on the world stage and part of the “Momentum Generation” palling around with some of the most accomplished surfers in history.
You would have seen Jay featured in surf magazines and video parts in the most popular surf movies of that era.
Lyndon and Jay, based on their histories, roles and personalities, have been smack dab in the middle of the spider web of connection known as the surf industry for years. They have taken their love of surfing, passion for the industry and their deep and diverse connections and started talking about it behind a microphone during the early days of podcasting.
Today, L8Night with Choccy @l8nightwithchoccy has over 330 published interviews with the most recognized people in the surf world; pro surfers, world champions, surf industry leaders, board builders, surf shop owners, and a wide range of business operators associated with surfing. The common bond is surf… but the story telling goes way beyond.
These are rad guys doing rad things: linking communities and sharing stories with the world. And they’re frickin’ hilarious.

Our guest this week is Local Legend from Long Beach that caught his first wave 75 years ago. Living a nomadic life spending most his time surfing or playing beach volleyball, he has called Huntington Beach and North Shore Oahu his home for most of his life.  He was one of the few charging Waimea and Pipeline in the 60’s and was a part of the Huntington Beach Surf Club in the early days. He has been a Jack of all trades, being a shop manager at Harbour SurfBoards, a journalist, School Teacher, and Real Estate Mogul. We are beyond honored and pumped to hear all the stories and history that he has witnessed. We welcome to the show Mr. Roy Crump.

Our guest this week is an industry powerhouse and serial entrepreneur. From his early days as a Quiksilver team rider, he forged important relationships that eventually landed him a long career with the Brand. As a UCSB and USC Marshall School of Business graduate, Quiksilver was lucky to snatch this guy up. He held a variety of key jobs over many years; SVP of Business Development under Danny Kwock, Chief Operating Officer - COO, and then President of the Americas. Since Departing from Quiksilver in 2015 he has been gone off on his own. Co-owner or Ampla Shoes, U.S. Distributor for Need Essentials, Founder of Santa Barbara Ice Bath, and his new Company “Colby +”. We are pumped to sit down with this Stud Mr. Rob Colby!!

Our guest this week is a Surfer and Shop owner for one of The Greatest and most Iconic Board Builders of our time Rich Harbour-REST IN PEACE, which still remains the home of the world’s oldest surfboard manufacturing shop at the same continuous space since 1959. From being a team rider, to getting retail experience alongside Aaron Pai at HSS in the early days, he helped Harbour transition from just a manufacturing facility into a thriving retail destination. We welcome the man responsible for this pinnacle shop in the Seal Beach community and continuing on the Legacy and History of Harbour Surfboards, Mr. Robert “BERT“ Howson.

Our guest this week is an “OG” Seal Beach ripper who caught his first wave in 1969. He was sponsored and worked at the iconic Harbour Surfboards, which led to a long-time friendship and bond with Rich, who eventually encouraged him to take up his passion in photography in 2002. His short time behind the lens quickly resulted with his first published photo in Surfer just about a year later. His dedication and keen eye, with the help from his wife/artist Enzia Farrel, Art Brewer, Larry “Flame” Moore, Tom Carey, and Warren Bolster, (so it is to no surprise) his amazing images graced the pages in Surfer, Surfing, and Transworld and many other publications. The last few years he has been working a new film “Harbour Chronicles”- a documentary to celebrate the life of Rich Harbour REST IN PEACE!!  We welcome to the show, a man’s-man who was a civil servant for 32 years as a Firefighter for The County of LosdAngeles, Mr. Chris “SARGE” Sardelis!!

Our guest this week is a former Pro Surfer and industry executive with over 25 years of experience.  His first industry gig was working at Inflight Surf Shop, while he was honing in his surf skills to go pro!  This 3x national champ committed a few years traveling the world to qualify for the tour, but made the smart choice to go to college and get an MBA in Business, Communications, and Global Logistics.  His resume is lengthy and impressive working over the years as a Marketing Manager, Consultant, Corporate Account Manager and knows the ins and outs of Logistics, Trade Compliance, Production, Licensing, Operations, and Sales. This guy is so well rounded, intelligent, and it is to no surprise he has held many VP positions with companies including Ports America, Fedex, Quiksilver, and most recently Free Fly.  We welcome our friend and industry power-house, Mr. Mike “RILES” Reilly.

Our guest this week is a hard-charging Kauai'an, known for paddling into any death pit at Pipe and chasing XXL swells across the globe. His résumé is stacked, winning the Pipeline Invitational in 2014 earning a coveted Pipe Masters wildcard, and taking the crown at the prestigious Da Hui Backdoor Shootout with a $30K payday! Also being awarded “Wave of the Decade” in 2020, add to that multiple “Wave of the Winter” and “XXL Big Wave Award” nominations, it’s clear he earned his place as a Big Wave Warrior!

But if there’s one moment that etched his name into surfing history and mainstream headlines, it was the wild Teahupoo incident when the jet ski he was driving went over the falls, literally launching over the head of Big-Wave Legend Raimana Van Bastolaer.  A viral clip that lit up Social Media, covered by Sports Illustrated and major news outlets worldwide.

Beyond charging slabs, he’s managed the Quiksilver North Shore Athlete House for the last decade, and has the passion and dedicates time to giving back supporting those battling Cystic Fibrosis.

We’re honored to welcome to the show a true Hawaiian charger and legend of our sport, Reef “BIG CAT” McIntosh!

Our guest this week is a Hawaiian surfer who’s been battling it out in the lineup since the young age of 8. Going head-to-head with some of the most prominent Surfers to ever come out of Hawaii. Following those intense amateur rivalries onto the world stage, he qualified for the Championship Tour in 2015. His career-defining moment came at the Quiksilver Pro France, where he took down legends Kelly Slater, John John Florence, and Gabriel Medina to claim one of the biggest wins of his career.

Beyond that, he has stacked multiple victories on the Qualifying Series—from Virginia Beach and Barbados to Huntington Beach at the Jack’s Pro, and of course, at his home break, the world-famous Ala Moana Bowls. But his proudest accomplishments are off the competitive stage, marrying his wife, UFC fighter Kailin Curran, and raising their two beautiful children. Today, he’s giving back, with his knowledge, passion, and wisdom to the next generation of rippers as part of the Billabong family. We are honored to welcome to the show, Mr. Keanu Asing.

Our guest this week is a true media powerhouse, with over two decades shaping surf culture through his work at Surfer and Surfing Magazine. From advertising sales to serving as General Manager, he spearheaded some of the industry’s most iconic initiatives and events, including Camp Shred, Surfer The Bar, Surfing The Shop, and the legendary Surfer Poll Awards on the North Shore.

He also worked on Surfer Girl Magazine, a groundbreaking publication dedicated to celebrating and empowering female surfers.

In 2019, he made the jump into real estate, where his dedication, work ethic, and deep community ties have fueled a thriving career while freelancing for marketing/social media strategies with multiple brands!  Which led to a full-time gig at Salt Life.
