Las Culturistas with Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang

Stuff yourself alongside your hosts Matt & Bowen for a culture catch-up! The two friends hold space for discussion on the hot wings on Hot Ones, awards season, the Coachella lineup, recent outings to Broadway, and Shrek culture. All this, category fraud at the Oscars, Bravo thoughts, Domingo at the Short n Sweet tour, and why the Wicked press tour is exactly what it needed to be.

Send in the clowns! Ana Gasteyer brings her big, gorgeous talent to Las Cultch. Matt and Bow chat all things Christmas and the need for community in this post-election MESS of a world. The Prince of Christmas himself gushes over Ana's Sugar and Booze Christmas album (stream now duh!), while the three bond over the world needing humor in challenging times.

Elphaba may sing about how she is "not that girl" but Cynthia Erivo IS that girl! Okay?! And she's also the guest this week on Las Cultch! The magnificent hyper-talent joins Matt & Bow to discuss auditioning for Wicked, crafting her Elphaba and ultimately letting her go. Also, running towards portraying some of the most iconic people and characters in history (Aretha Franklin! Celie! Harriet Tubman!), running in general, and a moment of appreciation for the color green. All this, how Ariana Grande has helped Cynthia find her voice as a recording artist, the responsibility and magic of singing at The Kennedy Center, the importance of listening to lyrics, the oppression of onion and garlic, and continued angst about the lack of availability of British snacks in America. Wicked hits theaters November 22nd and Cynthia is spectacular in it. OOOHHHAAAAHHHAAAAAHHHAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

Must be the season of the Good Witch because Ariana Grande is here on Las Cultch to talk WICKED and more!!! The perfect star gets togetha with Matt & Bowen to discuss finding her Glinda, how the musical theater “queens of her life” impacted her development, and what the next ten years of her career might look like. Also, reflections on eternal sunshine and positions, earning “horror freak” status, and a plea to Walt Disney World in the name of historical preservation. The excellent film Wicked is out November 22nd! 🎶 Dancing through liiiiiiiiiife! 🎶 Hang in there, RPKFs!

On this week’s Las Cultch, the artists formerly known as Bobo and Mimi (Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers) catch up on the culture. They discuss Anatomy of Lies and the legendary lies of Finchie, the SWEAT, Hit Me Hard and Soft and Eras TOURS, Wicked (which our hosts have now seen!), Andrew Garfield on Chicken Shop Date, and unacceptable Chromatica erasure. Also, Matt and Bow indulge in Eva Longoria appreciation, unpack their recent episode with Mariah Carey and make a case for Gracie Abrams as world’s most beautiful woman. All this, “Disease” and what some are for some reason calling Gaga’s “return to pop”, Stevie Nicks BTS from SNL, and unfortch… the electch. Get out and VOTE. Does the moon represent your heart? Are yall dressed up as Paul Mescal for Halloween? Have you been able to sleep? Lots to think about this week… on LAS CULTCH. See you next week… ARI!

Family is back on the pod after 7 and a half years! It’s Rachel Bloom! And she’s got notes on her last Las Cultch episode. Matt and Bow catch up with the star of Netflix’s Death, Let Me Do My Special, which is out now! Also, Rachel’s daughter’s Drag Race werkroom entrance is debuted, Bowen demands a female Siri, and the takeover of the word “gaslight” is discussed. All this, how all children’s TV shows are a hallucination, entertainment journalism then vs now, “PacSun Santa”, anxiety on nomination morning, “journal about it” as advice, squirting, postpartum anxiety, what happens when death becomes real, rowdy teens in children’s parks and Whitney and Barbra finally get their Iconic 400 flowers. Forgetting that was not right, and also not okay!

It's a moment. Mariah Carey? She's on Las Cultch, darling. Matt & Bowen adorn themselves with festive garb to welcome Queen of Christmas, adverb legend and all around music GOAT to the pod. M & B ask MC when to expect the follow up to Caution (and get an answer!), Mariah's "sensory" songwriting process and BTS of the creation of classic songs like "Hero". The three go on to discuss the iconic "Heartbreaker" music video villain BIANCA and her origins, how the Grammys trifle with Mariah and it's unacceptable, the formative Butterfly album's impact, how The Emancipation of Mimi put Mariah back on top, performing on SNL way back in 1990, memories from Mariah's iconic Tokyo Dome show, setting the convention of hip hop features on pop tracks, and the emotional rollercoaster that was writing and recording her terrific memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey. Also, the inspiration of Michael Jackson, Prince and Marilyn Monroe, the difficulty growing up biracial on Long Island, potentially rebooting Divas Live, beating Tina Fey at Mean Girls trivia, and casting the role of Mariah in Lee Daniels's adaptation of her memoir. Mariah reveals her top 3 favorite Disney rides, talks vocal stacking alongside the incredible Brandy, and ponders dropping her grunge album already! All this, Hoda and Jenna's emotional morning on Today, "Boxing Day" and Mariah's already iconic I Don't Think So, Honey on overhead lighting! Check out Mariah's newest collab with Amazon Music: it's a holiday decor line available October 31st at Amazon.com/MariahCarey! AND THEN A HERO *CAME* ALONG! We love you, Mariah. "Gimmeyalove" :)
