"Although I'm nonverbal I have plenty to say"
We knew we were in for a treat the instant Noah Callan answered our first question and he seemed pretty happy with it himself. He describes himself as "funny, smart, and an all-round good bloke" despite his parents' belief that he speaks too much s***.
How do you board a 150kg wheelchair or even travel?
How does he get out of bed in the morning?
How can you exploit Morgan Freeman for millions of dollars?
All explained in this episode of ListenABLE.

We thought it would be interesting to see how our host Dylan Alcott's life has changed in the last 24 months, two years after our first interview. We also have first hand accounts from him on what it was like to win 'Australian of the Year' and what the Prime Minister gave Dylan that the cameras missed.

Chris Blowes should not have survived the great white shark attack in 2015 that took his leg. He lost so much blood that he was in cardiac arrest by the time he got to hospital, and stayed in a coma for the next 10 days. In this chat with Angus O’Loughlin and Dylan Alcott he tells the harrowing story of the attack, the power of friendship and his miraculous survival, plus his later battle with the SA government to keep the shark tooth that almost took his life. You don’t want to miss our final episode of 2021, it is an absolute ripper!

Despite her bubbly personality, Tayla Clement can’t smile. She was born with an incredibly rare condition called Moebius syndrome, that gave her facial paralysis and club feet. Tayla has overcome severe bullying and depression to achieve amazing things, including becoming world number 1 in her classification for shot-put. She tells Dylan and Angus why she describes her disability as ‘free botox’, why she decided to walk away from sport, and how she developed the confidence to show off her version of a smile every day on her popular Instagram account.

Imagine living with a disability so rare no one has heard of it. Anja Christoffersen was born with VACTERL Association, an acronym that stands for vertebral, anal, cardiac, tracheal, oesophageal, renal and limb. It’s a collection of birth defects that have caused Anja to have over 35 surgeries and 150 hospital admissions in her life, including emergency surgery on her food and air pipes, bowel and bladder when she was only an infant. In this eye opening chat Anja explains what it’s like being a young woman with bowel incontinence, why she was determined to break into the exclusive world of modelling, plus she gives Angus an important lesson on the female anatomy, much to Dylan’s amusement.

In this episode we have not one, but TWO amazing guests with Down syndrome.
First up is Nathan Basha whose parents were given three choices when he was born - they could ‘institutionalise’ him, adopt him out or take him home. Thankfully they chose to take him home, and Nathan has flourished into an articulate young man passionate about teaching others how great living with Down syndrome can be. Next up is Matt O’Neil, who chats to Dylan and Angus about his love of hip hop dancing and working out at the gym, what his ideal first date looks like, and why it’s important to give people with Down syndrome employment opportunities.
