What should the reasonable expectations should be for Montreal Canadiens first overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky this season? What exactly does Filip Mesar bring to the table? And how do the Habs answer the big question that is their current defensive lineup?

We welcome Sebastian High of DobberProspects back to the show to discuss all that, and more.

There is immense talent in Slafkovsky's game, so what does he need to do to continue towards his development in the NHL this year? Is some time in the AHL with the Laval Rocket also on the table? Plus, what can we learn about his childhood friend and new teammate Filip Mesar? The shifty forward has a lot of upside, so what does he need to work on, and what should Habs fans be excited about? Finally, the Canadiens defense next year is quite the unknown quantity, so we speculate on pairings that they could try to give their promising defensive prospects like Kaiden Guhle, Justin Barron, and Jordan Harris the best context for their development?

Inside today's Locked on Canadiens, we examine the Habs' trade for Kirby Dach and get excited about Lane Hutson!

Laura and Scott welcome Sebastian High of DobberProspects to the show to begin a deep dive into the off-season of the Montreal Canadiens thus far. Before jumping into the players the hosts ask their guest about how he analyzes the sport of hockey, systems, and players to get an idea of how he has broken down the Habs summer.

Which leads to the next discussion, who is Kirby Dach, and why should Canadiens fans be excited about the former third overall pick being acquired by Kent Hughes? What about the big centre's game fits into what Montreal is looking to do going forward? Sebastian breaks it all down to help clarify a lot of the questions surrounding one of the newest Montreal Canadiens.

Finally, to wrap up the show the focus shifts to Lane Hutson, the small but skilled defence prospect the team drafted 62nd overall. Beyond what we already know, why else should Habs fans be excited but Hutson and did Team USA mess up by not taking him to the upcoming World Juniors tournament?

Inside today's Locked on Canadiens:

Scott has had enough of the nonsensical goaltending debates on Twitter over the last week and is laying down the gauntlet against Martin Brodeur. So the question becomes, who is the true best goalie of all-time? The hosts give their lists and their reasoning, with both agreeing in the end that Brodeur, while great isn't on the same level as Dominik Hasek or Patrick Roy.

After that it's on to listener questions including the thought of the Habs using a second buyout window to clear cap space to get both Kirby Dach and Cayden Primeau signed. If they were to do so, who would Scott and Laura buy out, and who do they think would actually be the one to go? Is there a road for Paul Byron to join the Habs coaching staff if he were to retire this season? Would the hosts rather see the Habs do a Mothers trip or a Dads trip next season?

There's plenty of World Junior questions to round out the show as well, including the expectations for Joshua Roy and Riley Kidney. Also how badly is Team USA going to regret cutting Lane Hutson and why is it a lot?

The Montreal Canadiens hiring Stephane Robidas set off a debate about the relative inexperience of the Habs coaching staff as a whole, and on today's episode we discuss the Habs as a development team, not just for players but for coaching staff as well as the front office. Our special guest is Jared Book, Deputy Managing Editor for Habs Eyes on the Prize, and we take the opportunity to talk about the new PHF team in Montreal and what that means for hockey in this city going forward. Plus: we talk about the Habs' latest draft and what we feel the Canadiens seem to want in their prospects.

Inside today's Locked on Canadiens:

The hosts are back, and welcome another renowned prospect expert to the show as Lauren Kelly of EliteProspects joins the show to discuss all things OHL! Lauren was one of the biggest early supporters of 2022 second round pick Owen Beck, so naturally the hosts want to know everything they can about him. In particular, can Beck's overall game fill the gap where it was assumed Shane Wright was going to slot in? What's a reasonable projection for Beck beyond this year, and where can he probably fit in the future if he makes it to the NHL level?

The hosts also ask Lauren for her thoughts on the other Canadiens' prospects in the OHL this upcoming year and what they can expect from Vinzenz Rohrer especially as the Montreal scouting staff and others have raved about his talents. Also who is Cedrick Guindon, and what makes him a potential late round steal for the Habs in this draft?

Lauren takes the final segment to answer some listener questions as well, including where does Jan Mysak go now that his OHL time is done? Can Arber Xhekaj continue to defy the odds and turn himself into a true NHL player? Lauren likes a lot of what Xhekaj brings to the table, but unless he can curb his lapses in judgement he might be harming his potential ceiling. Also, who is Cameron Allen, and why should Habs fans be excited about him in the 2023 NHL Draft?

The Montreal Canadiens have hired Stephane Robidas as an assistant coach and to help develop the Habs defensive players. We share our thoughts and then move on to the Friday Habs mailbag, in which we discuss Chris Wideman's leadership, the right side of the Canadiens defense, which Habs player we would go on the Amazing Race with, and more!

Inside today's Locked on Canadiens:

It's all about Montreal's 2022 Draft choice, Lane Hutson! Paul Zuk of Smaht Scouting and the Charging Buffalo joins the show to discuss the Habs' newest defensive prospect! Paul breaks down why Hutson was such an incredible steal for the Canadiens at 62nd overall, and where his game is headed in the next few years of development. Should fans be concerned about his size? Or does Hutson's talent outweigh those concerns?

What makes Lane Hutson's game so unique, and why should Habs fans be excited about their newest prospect? Paul lays out the offensive talents Hutson possesses and how he can reach his potential in the NCAA and beyond.

Finally, it's a mini-mailbag as Paul tackles all kinds of listener questions to finish up the show! Can Hutson grow, and will adding size impact his overall play? Paul breaks down everything to wrap up the show, including a quick comparison to current Boston University star Domenick Fensore.

We talk about the NHL news over the weekend and how it will affect the Habs, particularly in terms of Pierre-Luc Dubois and Jonathan Huberdeau. First, we discuss the Montreal Canadiens fanbase's reaction to Chris Wideman taking Shea Weber's jersey number and the mixed reaction it garnered. We then move on to discuss Pierre-Luck Dubois signing his qualifying offer in Winnipeg and what that means for the Habs and their fans. Finally, we talk about Matthew Tkachuk being traded to the Florida Panthers and the reported displeasure of Jonathan Huberdeau with regard to being sent to the Calgary Flames in return.

It's Friday, you know what that means...

The mailbag has returned and the hosts have a ton of questions to work through!

Scott and Laura design their own third jerseys for the Habs, and discuss what other sports they enjoy watching live besides hockey. Also, with the trade market being what it is right now, can Kent Hughes trade Joel Armia without retaining salary, or is it likely that the big Finn sticks around for the time being? With the Habs still his preferred destination, should Montreal be concerned about how quickly Pierre-Luc Dubois seems to lose interest in a city, and the hosts debate some listener trade thoughts, including Brendan Gallagher. Is there a market for a player like Gallagher coming off a down season, or is it wiser to keep the fan-favourite around for the rest of his contract?

With there still being an open place on the Canadiens bench, who might the Canadiens hire to fill the void left by Luke Richardson? If the Canadiens didn't exist, who would be the winningest franchise in NHL history, and who would the hosts cheer for? What would make up the Laura and Scott's ultimate ice cream cones, and so much more!
