IN his edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Caps after the deadline and how the trades and movement will impact this team for years to come. The Capitals had to me some tough decisions about who to re-sign and who to trade. Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway both wanted to test free agency, so the Capitals did the right thing by trading them and getting some draft picks and Craig Smith in return. Later Dan talks about the Elliot in the morning show where Brain Maclellan was the guest and talked about how the Capitals were all in getting Chychrun, the Washington and Arizona just couldn't come to terms on a deal. Later Dan talks about the latest With Nick Jensen and Martin Fehervary

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Caps loss to the Kings 4-2. This ends the Caps 2 game winning streak. The loss also makes the margin for error for the Caps making the playoffs that much smaller. The Caps picked up a big wins against the Ducks and Sharks but when facing the surging LA King's they fell short even though they scored first. They were not able to maintain the lead and the Caps lost even though Darcy Kuemper stopped all 19 shots he faced in the first. Later Dan talks about the conversations between Brian Maclellan and Alex Ovechkin about the future of the Capitals and struggles the Capitals faced this year that led to that decision. Dan later talks about Alex Ovechkins great game where he scored his 816th goal.

Ovechkin's power-play strike moved him to 816 career goals, and he is now just 79 away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time record. The goal was also his 36th of the season and his fifth in as many games. Then talks about the importance of Nick Backstrom and how he has been instrumental in his career Nicklas Backstrom recorded the secondary assist on Ovechkin's power play goal, his eighth assist of the season. It marks Backstrom's 333rd career power-play assist, passing Denis Potvin (332) and tying Teemu Selanne (333) for the 28th-most power-play assists in NHL history.

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Capitals defeat of the San Jose Sharks. The Caps needed to come from behind to take down the Sharks. The caps did it with new acquisitions and young call and far exceeded everyone's expectation as they take down the Sharks by a score of 8-3. Rasmus Sandin played a big role with his first game with the Caps. Rasmus Sandin (0-2—2) became the fourth defenseman to record multiple points in his first game with the Capitals, joining Christian Djoos (1-1—2 on Oct. 11, 2017), Mike McEwen (0-2—2 on Nov. 27, 1984) and Jean Lemieux (1-1—2 on Jan. 23, 1976).Rasmus Sandin (0-3—3) became the first defenseman to post three points in his Capitals debut and just the seventh skater to do so. Mikhail Grabovski (1-3—4 on Oct. 1, 2013) is the only skater to record more than three points in his first game with Washington.

Dan later talks about the great performance by Craig Smith who the Caps got in the trade with Boston that sent Orlov and Hathaway packing. Craig smith had two goal on the night and was most impressive.

Later Dan talks about the young call-ups in Gabe Carlsson and Vincent Iorio. Carlsson, skating in his first NHL game since April as a member of the Blue Jackets, recorded a pair of assists and a plus-3 rating in 19:00 of ice time.Iorio, meantime, skated 14:48 and notched an assist, setting up Ovechkin’s second goal.

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the activity for the Capitals on trade deadline. The Caps were pretty quiet today only signing Nicolas Aube Kubel to a one-year contract extension. The Caps like a lot of the other NHL teams took care of any trades before the deadline. Dan goes over the trades and movement over the last week plus and what those movement mean for the Capitals. No that some of the bigger names have been traded away this presents some opportunities. Washington recalled defensemen Vincent Iorio and Gabriel Carlsson from the AHL's Hershey Bears and re-assigned Dylan McIlrath. Dan then talks about the Caps schedule going forward and who will be in the lineup for the rest of the season.

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington joins the show as we talk about a very busy week in the NHL and the Capitals. We talk about the long term effects of the Hathaway and Orlov trade to Boston for Craig Smith and some draft picks. One of those picks first overall was used in yet another trade that sent Eric Gustafsson to the Toronto Maple Leafs in return for defenseman Rasmus Sandin. A young defender that's viewed as having a big upside and helping the Caps in their efforts to get younger. Then they talk about the trade that sent Lars Eller to Colorado. They then talk about the new Nick Jensen deal and another move that Marcus Johansson to the Wild for a draft pick.

In this edition of Locked on Capitals. Dan talks about the trade that sent Lars Eller to the Colorado Avalance. The Caps in return get a 2025 second-round pick. Lars Eller was on an expiring contract. Lars will be most remembered in Washington for his great play during the Capitals' Stanley Cup run in 2018. Lars scored seven goals and 11 assists in the 2018 playoffs, including three-game winning goals. Eller scored the double-overtime game-winner against the Blue Jackets in Game 3 of the opening round, the first of four straight wins for the Capitals over Columbus after beginning the series down 2-0.

Later Dan talks about the new deal for Nick Jensen. Before all of the movement this week John Carlson was the only Caps blue liner under contract after this season. The Caps made a move for defenseman Rasmus Sandin. Now with Nick getting a new contract the Caps blue line is really starting to take shape.

In the final segment Dan talks about what other potential moves GM Brian Maclellan will make. Will this team go all in on a youth movement and do callup's from Hershey or will he sign more veteran players. Dan gives his ideas on which direction he thinks the team should go in.

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the movement before the deadline with the Capitals. Tuesday Rasmus Sandin got traded to the Capitals and sent Erik Gustafsson and a 2023 first-round pick to Toronto. John Carlson was the only Caps blueline under contract after this season. Sandin is a left-handed shot who has four goals and 20 points through 52 games this season for the Maple Leafs. He looks to be an upgrade for the Capitals. The move to send Gustafsson to Toronto was a hard one Gustafsson departs the District as the team's fourth-leading scorer with 38 points (seven goals, 31 assists), and his plus-9 is tied with Trevor van Riemsdyk for the best mark on the team. The Capitals are also once again moving Marcus Johansson. This time back to Minnesota in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. The versatile Johansson, capable of playing any forward position and on both special teams, totaled three goals and six points in 18 games with the Caps last season, and Washington resigned the popular Swede to a one-year deal at $1.1 million last July.

After trading Dmitry Orlov and with plenty of pending free agents on the blueline, the Washington Capitals have swung a deal to acquire defenseman Rasmus Sandin from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Erik Gustaffson and a 1st-round pick (acquired from Boston). Dan Holmi of Locked On Capitals joins Gil Martin of Locked On NHL to break down the trade from the Caps' point of view.

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the trade rumors surrounding this team. Lars Eller and Nick Jensen who are both on expiring contracts are names that are receiving some attention from some other teams Elliotte Friedman on the 32 thoughts podcast said "He's open for business, and teams know he means it, and they're all calling him," Friedman said." The Caps might miss the playoffs for the first time since 2014 and are willing to move some players that are on expiring contracts Friedman went on to say "

"Jensen, there's quite a few teams with interest," Friedman said, citing the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators as two of the suitors. "So I think what MacLellan is doing right now -- the decision was made on Orlov, and now I think he's making a decision: is there a deal to be made here or am i moving on?"

There's also been talk of trading Jakob Chychrun and wondering if the Caps would be willing to trade Connor McMichael and Hendrix Lapierre. Dan talks about why he's against it and how it's put them in the position they're in . In the last segment Dan talks about Barry Trotz being the new GM of the Predators
