Today's episode of Locked On Ducks features a VERY special guest--Spencer McLaughlin is joined by Mike "Jorgy" Jorgensen, Oregon Football's radio analyst alongside Jerry Allen since 1989. With over 30 years of broadcasting Oregon Football under his belt, Jorgy knows the Ducks and their history better than just about anybody. He returns to the show to share his insights regarding Oregon's upcoming battle with #3 Georgia in Atlanta on Saturday.

Oregon has a history of playing in these early season, primetime games against quality (often SEC) opponents, and although a loss like Auburn in 2019 can sting, the benefits of playing in such a game far outweigh the negatives. Jorgy, who has been on the radio calls since 1989 for the Ducks, has traveled to and witnessed first hand how these sorts of games tend to play out. What are the common themes that exist in these sorts of "early season bowl games"?

They also discuss the matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs, a game that Jorgy feels more confident about than most. If Oregon is to compete and perhaps win the game, the trenches and turnovers have to be in favor of the Ducks or else Georgia's talent and depth could be overwhelming--even after so many losses to the NFL after their national championship season. Finally, Jorgy shares what excites him the most about the upcoming 2022 season.

Oregon Football's week 1 game presents a major opportunity for the Ducks on the field, getting a chance to take down the defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs. In the recruiting space, there is potential for this game (even if it isn't a win) to help Oregon show players across the country that they're a progrum for elite recruits to consider.

On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin is joined by John Garcia Jr., director of recruiting for Sports Illustrated. He shares his insight from years of experience as to what it's like to recruit during a season, a logistical challenge that Dan Lanning and his new staff are now going to embark upon.

5-star QB Dante Moore is Oregon's highest-rated 2023 recruit, but 5-star WR commit Jurrion Dickey is perhaps the most important player for the Ducks to continue to recruit to keep him headed to Eugene. John also provides updates on 5-star DL David Hicks and 5-star ATH/EDGE Samuel M'Pemba, noting that the Ducks have a chance at both. Between those 2 and 5-star EDGE Matayo Uiagalelei, it's paramount the Ducks land at least one of the coveted defensive line prospects.

With Oregon Football's 2022 season just four days away following a tumultuous offseason, how should Duck fans feel before they travel to Atlanta? Although some unknowns remain, Oregon's talent is still such (even with a couple notable losses) that they should expect to once again be competitive in the Pac-12. Another trip to Las Vegas and the Pac-12 Football Championship Game should once again be in the cards and a reasonable barometer for success in year 1 under Dan Lanning and his new staff.

The Georgia game presents a unique challenge that few teams, even Oregon, have the opportunity to do. Though another upset victory would be welcome by all, it's unlikely and Duck fans should recognize that moral victories do count--but for this Saturday only.

Though the offense is perhaps the biggest unknown for the Ducks heading into 2022, it could perhaps be their biggest advantage against Georgia this week--even more than Dan Lanning's familiarity with the Georgia Bulldogs and their schemes. The trenches will be crucial for the Ducks to keep it close against #3 Georgia on Saturday, and there are multiple important keys for the defense as well to keep the Ducks in the game.

Oregon Football has won the Pac-12 recruiting battle for four years in a row, yet they appeared completely overmatched in 2 meetings with Utah in 2021. With several key departures including a top-10 pick in DE Kayvon Thibodeaux, the Ducks may need to fill in some of their 2021 gaps to produce another 10+ win season. So where can they most improve on game days from last season?

On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin dives into where the Ducks can be better in 2022 than they were in 2021. In addition to being more explosive on offense, the special teams (though not flashy) were a large weakness last season outside of place kicker Camden Lewis. The 3rd-down defense was also a glaring weakness last year, and some notable departures on defense including 1st-team all-american Verone McKinley could make that a challenge for Dan Lanning and DC Tosh Lupoi.

Something that has been a recent topic of discussion amongst Duck fans is former HC Mario Cristobal, now HC of the Miami Hurricanes, and the limitations he showed last year as a coach. It is long past time for Oregon fans to move on and focus on the situation at hand--reliving negative aspects of the past and feeling bitter about it doesn't do anybody any good.

Anthony Brown's quarterback play in 2022 left Duck fans yearning for the days of past successful signal callers like Marcus Mariota, Darron Thomas, and Justin Herbert. Now with Auburn transfer Bo Nix in line to be the starter, the position seems to bring more questions than answers to the minds of Oregon fans as the Ducks look to return to the Pac-12 Championship game in 2022 in Las Vegas. The good news is at the outset, Bo Nix is set up for success this year with the array of weapons and O-line play he should have surrounding him.

On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin breaks down where Bo Nix should be statistically by the end of the season (assuming he stays healthy). Though his completion percentage was solid (64%), Brown threw for just over 200 yards per game--a number Nix needs to be able to improve upon, regardless of the offensive philosophy. The weapons and OL talent are sufficient to expect him to be able to surpass Brown's stats and overall execution of the offense from last season.

Sticking with the quarterbacks, one listener asks a question about Ty Thompson and his future at Oregon. With 5-star QB Dante Moore coming in the class of 2023, the competition going into next season could be fierce with 4-star QB Jay Butterfield also in the mix. Oregon Football's showdown with the Georgia Bulldogs on September 3rd in the Chick-fil-a Kickoff Game is now just 10 days away. As Fall Camp rolls along, one (somewhat) recurring headline from practice reports should catch the attention of Duck fans: injuries along the offensive line. Nothing is serious at this point in time, but in 10 days' time Oregon needs to have its O-line at full health if they're going to compete with Georgia.

Rumors about Oregon's future conference plans have been speculated about ever since the news of USC/UCLA's departure broke almost two months ago. Previously talks about going to the Big 10 were mostly speculative, but now Oregon officials have initiated conversations with the conference to see if they could be a potential fit--leaving Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff in a precarious situation. And, unlike just a few weeks ago, the Big 10 does not appear to be as ready to stop expanding as once thought.

On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin discusses the latest piece of conference realignment news for the Ducks--who this time are generating the headlines themselves. Part of the reason Oregon would want to be in the Big 10 is stability and reassurance--in the Big 10, there are no worries about finances or competitive relevance on the recruiting trail. Such concerns COULD come to fruition if the Ducks remain in the PAC, even if they expand with teams like San Diego St, Boise St, etc.

Today's show concludes with a mailbag question from a first-time question-asker who asks about Oregon's future--what could the next 5 years look like for the Ducks in the PAC if they are not granted their wish of going to the Big 10? Getting back to the College Football Playoff is one thing, but another level of progress and excellence will be needed if the Ducks are going to get back to the national championship game for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

Oregon Football's first game of the season on September 3rd against Georgia is probably the toughest non-conference game that a Pac-12 school has in 2022. The Dan Lanning era, even against his former team where he shined as a defensive coordinator, is likely to begin with a loss down in SEC territory. How might the rest of the games go for the Ducks?

On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin is joined by JT Wistrcill of Locked On Utes to predict Oregon's 2022 season win total. They agree on Oregon's final 2022 record, and that it will be good enough to get them back to the Pac-12 Championship Game in Las Vegas. However, they disagree on Oregon's path to reaching that record.

They discuss each of Oregon's 12 games and lay out their respective paths for how the Ducks will, in their views, reach 10 wins in 2022 as they did in 2021. Their toughest conference games, UCLA and Utah, both come at home in the confines of Autzen Stadium in Eugene. Spencer and JT have different views on how those games will go for Dan Lanning and co. in the upcoming season.
