Locked On Guardians - Daily Podcast On The Cleveland Guardians

I sit down with Herb and Chris of Locked On White Sox to talk all things central. This is the first of two parts. They pepper me with questions about the Indians and I do my best to answer and explain why I thinks will turn out better for the Indians than many other places predict. I talk about the improved lineup and how it is the Indians never seem to run out of arms along with more. Tomorrow I get to ask them all the questions, so tune in for that as well.

I asked twitter for questions and I got them. We talk about Bobby Bradley, and why I am still not buying in. We talk about the reluctance to play young players. We bring up the Casey Kotchman got Lasik surgery candidate for this years overblown spring training story. We end with my sleeper in terms of who could end up helping the Indians the most this year, but is getting the least coverage. Listen in for all this and more.

We talk about how while it does not look good that the Franmil Reyes and Jose Ramirez situation is not really a huge deal. We bring up a conspiracy idea that is likely false, and then explain why that while it looks bad the net affect on the team is likely low. We talk about two signings and two releases and how some of them could have an affect on the Indians. Then we end with the last five minutes of our Locked on Tigers crossover.

It is the month of crossover's on the Locked on Network. Chris Castellani and myself have such a good conversation that it lasts for nearly an hour before it is done. I am splitting this conversation up over two days, each one will be 30 minutes plus of Indians and Tigers thoughts. Here is a chance to hear another teams expert and their view on the Indians. We talk pitching, prospects, projections and more.

We start out where the news has been all day Mickey Callaway the caught falsehood by the Indians and the troubling Tito Francano connections. Callaway is many things all bad, but we talk about the greater baseball issues that allows for Mickey Callaway's to thrive. Callaway's actions are despicable but they are not surprising if you have been around baseball long enough. The Indians need to do better.

We talk about the Francisco Lindor name issues, and how while I respect it the timing is a bit odd. We talk about the delayed minor league season, player options, and end discussing the game against Seattle and what parts are important and or interesting from that game. If nothing else it is nice to not see Billy Hamilton as a DH, and we hopefully never will again.

We dig into a popular idea from year past the all free agent team, and while the picking is slim it does allow for some fun dips into the past as I see names I remember from years ago. There is a clear two top to the free agent market, but there are still a lot of players left out their who could help a lot of squads and we talk about them all and more. I break down the hitters and the pitchers who standout.

Then we talk about how small sample size and spring training do not matter, until it does. There is a player who is staring early for the Indians and while it is too early to take anything from the performance. It is extremely encouraging to see this particular young player excelling like they have.

On the show we talk about the change in format, and why it is a good thing. We dig into a no-hitter in the MAC and explain why if you can do it safely this is a year to go out and watch local MAC baseball. We talk about the spring training game, the names there and why it is fun that baseball was back even if it was mostly players who won't break camp with the Indians. We try to talk some history, and remind people of a podcast from last year where I covered how close it was that Tom Seaver was an Indian. Then we talk about a potential trade target who has come in in National articles, and also been a player talked about on local blogs as a player who could be very likely on the move.

We talk about Harold Ramirez, and how he isn't very good but might still be useful for the Indians. We talk about how his profile is one that does not lead itself to long term success, yet at the same time the Indians outfield production is so bad that even a below average defender and hitter might still be an upgrade.

We also dig into the first three cuts from the minor league system. This is likely just the beginning as the cutting of affiliates will lead to more cuts long term. These three players are all logical cuts but I expect many more to come sooner than later.

We talk about the Lindor quote about being in shape, and discuss the idea of extensions and who the Indians should consider extending. We talk about the optimum time to approach a player for an extension and which players make more sense than others.

We then talk about Shin-Shoo Choo perennially on the most underrated player in baseball list. He is one of the top 30 hitters in Indians history, a fact most probably do not realize which just goes to show how underrated he is. We talk about the trade to acquire him, and how much the Indians have lacked an outfielder with his ability.

We then try and figure out who the 13 pitchers are who will break camp with the Indians. We discuss some under the radar names to know, why I expect there to be a lot of veteran names, who I think will be the closer, and who is going to fill out the starting rotation.
