We dig into some fun with drafts, and how a pair of small Ohio schools had a large impact on the MLB draft. We then go into a series of trades which saw the Indians trade their top pitchers and end up with little to show for it. It is odd to think after the Indians pitching needs in the 90s that they traded away a pair of All Star arms right before the rise of those 90s teams. We look at a series of trades the Indians made many of them in 91, and take solace in one great deal along with the fact at least they did not make the deal the Orioles made that should go down as one of the worst in history.

I released my most recent mock going 72 picks deep. This meant that I had three Indians picks to talk about along with sleepers and other names to know for those picks. I talk about why the 2019 Cape Cod League is something that is EXTREMELY important when it comes to the Indians draft. In addition I talk about why the loss of 2020 might give them a leg up on most teams, but will put them behind for 2021.
Mock can be found at my new site mlbdraftnow.blogspot.com

We continue to talk more 2006, because there is so much to talk about. This season the Indians went from a solid starting second baseman and a young backup to having to acquire Josh Barfield, Luis Valbuena, and Mark Derosa all in an attempt to find the answer, which they would not find until Jason Kipnis. They would keep compounding their errors and finding no answer as they watched Brandon Phillips blossom in state. We look at the 2006 draft where the Indians had 6 picks in the top 101 and ended up with virtually nothing to show for it. They would go on to later acquire many, many players from that class in trades and free agency. While they did get two solid players in day three, the one future star talent they drafted would be used in a trade for a second baseman along with the only player they go when they traded future star Brandon Phillips to the Reds.

The Indians made a series of head scratching moves that they then compounded when those moves failed which ultimately lead to the window slamming shut after one postseason appearance by the early 00's Indians. A team that should have made it in 05, then tried to over compensate in 06 after a down year that if they had just stood pat likely would have set the Indians up to win the 2007 World Series, as thy barely lost in the ALCS that year. While there were two great moves that year, there were so many bad ones that I could not fit them all in one episode. This one is spread out over two days. From the big Brandon Phillips to the likely forgotten Mike Adams. We dig into it all.

The Indians had one season over .500 in the 80s, and it could not have come at a worse time. In 1986, 87, and 88 the top prep player in the draft came from Ohio and every single one made it to the majors and played for multiple seasons. Since then there have been just two players from the Ohio high school ranks to go in the first round. Sadly, the Indians drafted the worst of that trio and how they could have ended up with a game changing talent if not for the fact they choose the worst year to be decent. As in both 85 and 87 the Indians had the worst record in the AL, and 86 is where the Hall of Fame talent was available.

We catch up with the virtual Indians including Corey Kluber's return to Cleveland. Then we dig into the 2003 MLB Draft. The Indians had three first rounders and while two reached the majors, none became regulars. Two had star potential but due to freak injuries never neared that potential. We look at how the If things had worked out differently how those two players could have helped the Indians win the 2007 World Series, and changed the direction of the franchise going forward.

After a fair email from Mike Bobal, we decide that we need to revisit the bullpen yet again. We talk about a few more names for the Indians All Time pen. There are some names from the 90s and 00s that deserve some talk and maybe deserve a spot on the All Time Indians pen. Honestly unlike the other positions it is very hard to come to a definite grouping.

We dig into about 10 more players who should be up for the Indians all time bullpen. We dig into Bob Wickman who was once the All Time save leader, 70s pitchers Sid Monge and Jim Kern, and a surprise edition to the list. There is a non closer that has a very good case to be in the Indians all time pen, one that is likely to cause some disagreement going forward.

We talk about the Emanuel Clase suspension, and why it is such a blow for the Indians. The pen was already an issue and the best hope for improvement this year could miss the majority of the year. We also dig into way an 80 game suspension is unfair right now, in the scope of a season that is going to be less than 162 games. We then start the process of finding the Indians all time bullpen. We fill the first four spots and will still have three more to figure out for Wednesday's podcast.

We take a deeper look at the great Early Wynn. A man whose Hall of Fame journey does not take off until he is nearly 30 and comes to the Indians. We focus on Mel Harder who is third all time in bWAR for the Indians yet made a bigger impact as a coach. We look at those pitches mentioned above who he helped mature into some of the best arms in baseball. We take a deeper look at the Early Wynn deal, talk about Luke Easter who is the reason why the indians traded Mickey Vernon back to the the Senators in little after a year after getting him in the Wynn deal. Then we focus on Lemon and McDowell trying to figure out who gets the 5th spot in the Indians all time rotation. Lemon a Hall of Famer who was a infielder who missed time due to World War 2 or is it the flame throwing lefty whose peak was better than Lemons.
