Locked On Guardians - Daily Podcast On The Cleveland Guardians

The news is breaking that the baseball season is very likely set to return. We discuss what the season will look like. We talk about how after three months of public arguing they ended up with the same agreement they had back in March, so hurting the sport for nothing. We talk about the pitfalls, and why the season could still not occur or how it could easily fall apart. There are a ton of risks, which all could derail the 2020 season before it even starts. I miss baseball, but it would be foolish to assume that the game will return and run smoothly in less than a months time.

We talk about the never ending labor situation and how nothing seems to change, and why we will not cover it anymore until something comes of it. Then we dig into by far the Indians most interesting signing. Alonzo Richardson a 17 year old two-way player who fits their mold perfectly. I explain why he makes so much sense as potential two-way player, and why he is the most interesting UDFA so far. Then since this was recorded on Fathers' Day I give an update on my own father, and how in good news I plan to have him on the podcast soon.

The Indians have added a third undrafted free agent Jamie Aarias. His a lefty pitcher, who fits their profile exactly but could also have some room for growth. We talk about the labor woes, and ask the question would a championship this year have any meaning, less meaning, or would full just as good. We look at what a 50 man roster could look like, starting with the 40 man taking off a pair of pitches then building from there.

Everyday the labor talks get worse, and at some point we have to discuss it. The owners used the current crisis to cut the minor leagues, but now want to renegotiate a deal they agreed to. We try and figure out who the six owners are who would prefer no season, spoiler one is likely the Indians. We talk about a commissioner that has done the impossible made Gary Bettman look good. Then we look at the Indians additions of Joe Donovan and Cade Smith a pair of players who were drafted back in 2017 and could have signed for six figures then. They might have have gotten six figures this year in a typical draft, instead they get 20K and they will like it.

We look at how the Royals are dominating the undrafted FA pool, and why. It was something I predicted on the show a few weeks ago, and it is coming true big time for the Royals. Then we dig into the players the Indians failed to sign from 2019 which include a player who quit baseball, one who broke their leg, and a pitcher who excelled out of the gate. We also look at bit at the 2017 class and the player who at the time was rated higher than Asa Lacy or Austin Martin.

The Indians had one of the best day twos of any team in this years MLB draft. They took four players who top 100 grades, including a player who is my highest rated draft pick taken by the Indians in general. Come here about the new prospects, while I explain why this ended up being one of my favorite recent drafts. The Indians know what they do well in development and drafted players who play directly into their player development strengths.
