Locked On Guardians - Daily Podcast On The Cleveland Guardians

Just Verlander going down makes that three important pitchers for three AL contenders who will start the year injured. We take about the Astros, and how they already had pitching injuries. We also go into my love for Abraham Toro and why I would trade an arm to net him in a heartbeat. We talk about the Francisco Lindor non-news of the day. When compared to Yelich we see why there is no comparison, and why it is that Lindor is likely looking forward to moving on.

Finishing up the All-Time Indians top 5 in centerfield. This is the best group of any in Indians history. Three of the top six players all time in terms of bWAR were centerfielders. We talk about injuries, mostly minor do not stress. But most of the time today is devoted to two of the best to ever play for the Indians. Including maybe the best player in franchise history. A player the Indians bought from Boston who could not afford him, then made him the highest paid player in the game. Back when the Indians could do such a thing.

This episode is all about centerfield. We start out talking about a possible Mercado injury. Then we talk about how the Indians and Yankees might make sense for the Indians to add outfield help, while moving one of their glut of arms. Then we dive in all-time centerfield, which has the best one to five anywhere on the diamond. We only get through five to three, but all three are great players who in my estimation were/are very underestimate in terms of greatness and lore.

We talk about some of the twitter news from right before the podcast focused on Lindor and the Indians minors. Then we dive into the Indians all time third base ranks. We come up with a top five all time, just in time to realize I was terribly wrong and change the enter rankings around.

We start the show talking about the reasons why people think that opening day is still not sold out. Why I think it sounds more like excuses than actual reasons. We talk about the Yelich extension why it happened, and how it means nothing in terms of Francisco Lindor. We then have some fun looking at early college performers, who are starting the year on the fire?

I do a quick update on my dad. Then we talk about Yadier Alvarez, and why the Indians might have an interest. Then we talk about why I have concerns when it comes to judging talent in the lower extremes of the minors. We look at some recent prospect ranks, and how they were interesting.

This podcast was recorded on the drive back to Ohio after I found out my father had a stroke. He is the person who got me started in sports and in the world of drafts and statistics in general. It was due to him that I got on the track for sports I did. I had been planning to have him on for Father's day, but learned the important lesson. Do no wait for silly things, jump on the chances you have now my friends.

We discuss more cable related information. We spend some time on the Emmanuel Clase injury, then we talk about the Angels and the Griffin Canning elbow concern. Before we settle in to talk all time Indians. A position that has five players rated in the top 20 all time Indians by bWAR. There are some other names to know but right now there is a very clear top two a solid middle and two very good but not great players at four and five.

It is not an Earth Shattering pod, or one full of deep insights. We talk about the injury to Emmanuel Clase, and how we are all waiting for more information. Then we do a deep dive on the released info of the Braves. Yet at the same time we really don't use this information all that in depth. Instead we look at some readily available numbers that really come together in an interesting way. It also shows that while attendance is an issue the bigger issue is due to a deal the ownership made all on their own.

We take some time to look at geotags of the pod, turns out Cleveland is not even our top city in Ohio. We give Greensboro a shoutout again. There is a twitter question. A discussion into the Yankees and how they might make a natural trade partner down the line post Servino's injury. We spend a lot of time on Brady Aiken who came to Arizona today, some retreading of the talk of him before. But there might not be a player who shifted more in baseball than Aiken who never even made it to AA. If he signs in 2014, no Bregman to the Astros? No Verlander? Walker Buehler to the Indians? We will never know.
