The 2020 NFL Draft is a few days away from its scheduled start. It is Joe Douglas' first in charge of the Jets. He will be looking to lay the groundwork for a new era of success.
On today's podcast Connor Rogers joins us to talk about the Jets' approach. Connor writes for Bleacher Report, co-hosts the Stick to Football podcast, and has started a new Jets venture with Joe Caporoso called Badlands which looks back at the last Jets decade.
On today's show we talk about the options the Jets have with the eleventh overall pick. Should it be a tackle or a wider receiver? Which are the best choices? How about the later rounds? Who will be available at these positions? What about edge rusher and cornerback? Connor offers us detailed analysis on what the Jets can and should do.

We are now less than a week from the start of the 2020 NFL Draft. Joining the podcast today is Trevor Sikkema from The Draft Network. Trevor has been a frequent guest in the past. The Draft Network is one of the best websites breaking down the prospects. There is no time like now to discuss the prospects with Trevor.
On our show we talk about the Jets' options in the first round. Most of the buzz is about the premium prospects at offensive tackle and wide receiver. Trevor offers his thoughts on these players. We also chat about what the Jets could do after pick 11. There is a strong second tier of receivers and tackles. The team also needs some help at edge rusher and cornerback. This is not the strongest class at the top of either position, but there will be some decent prospects available on the second day and beyond. Quality receivers should also fall into day three.

The 2020 NFL Draft is scheduled to begin one week from today. On the newest podcast episode we have our weekly mailbag, which has many Draft questions. As always, thanks to everybody who sent in questions, and apologies to those whose questions went unanswered. There were more good questions than there was time to answer all of them.
On today's show we look at what the Jets should do with Avery Williamson, which positions the Jets should not use an easy pick to address in the Draft, which potential day three picks interest me, which wide receivers from the 2020 class would fit well together, whether the Jets should focus on tackle prospects who are effective zone blockers, what would happen if Tua Tagovailoa fell to the Jets at 11, whether the Jets should look for a late round backup quarterback, and my best and worst Draft analysis from the past.

The scheduled start of the 2020 NFL Draft is just over a week away. The Jets and the rest of the league will look to add young talent to their rosters.
In the aftermath of the NFL Draft there is frequently overreaction. I should know. I have frequently overreacted in the past. All of us have ideas about what our teams should do. All of us have prospects we like and prospects we dislike. If your team follows your preferred course, you are likely to declare it a great Draft. If your team doesn't, you might express disappointment. Immediate Draft reactions both positive and negative frequently prove to be incorrect over the long haul, though. Even the most brilliant minds in the history of the game have made Draft errors.
On today's podcast I give thoughts on things you can do to help prevent these overreactions. There are certain things worth ignoring during and immediately after the NFL Draft.

Joe Douglas might technically be in his second year as Jets general manager, but for all intents and purposes this is his first year. Last year he was hired after free agency and the Draft. While he was able to make a few moves, the 2019 Jets roster was largely set by the time he arrived on the scene.
The last month has been his first opportunity to shape his team. It is too early to make sweeping declarations about his job performance. A few free agent signings neither guarantee a future spot in Canton nor do they guarantee he will go down as another general manager failure. For the first time, however, we can begin to draw impressions on the job he is doing.
On today's podcast I offer my thoughts on three philosopical things Douglas has shown that give me hope for the future.

The 2020 NFL Draft is almost here. The annual event is scheduled for late next week. The Jets currently own the eleventh overall selection, a second round pick, and a pair of third rounders (in addition to their day three picks).
There are many goals for the NFL Draft. The most important of these goals is to add desperately-needed young talent to the roster to finally move forward a seemingly perennial rebuild. Another goal which is not totally separate has to be improving critical positions of need.
That is the topic of today's podcast. On the show I give some thoughts on how I think the Jets should approach the 2020 Draft from a positional standpoint. Some positions are more important than others in the NFL. Some positions have a deeper class than others in 2020. Some positions are in worse shape than others for the Jets. Some positions are important for long-term investment.
I offer thoughts on all of this and more on today's show.

The 2020 NFL Draft is less than two weeks away. It feels like we say this every year, but the Jets are hoping it's the first step on the road to rebuilding the roster and launching a new era.
When a team is on the clock there are many factors that go into a pick. One of them is how they feel about their current roster. Passing on a player at a given position is sometimes a sign of confidence in what the team currenly has at a position. Sometimes picking a player is a sign the team is getting ready to move on from a player at the same position.
On today's podcast we focus on what the Jets' Draft strategy in 2020 might mean for players already on the roster. Picks or a lack of picks at wide receiver, cornerback, tackle, safety, and running back in particular might send a signal about the team's plans for 2020 and 2021.

Today is our Thursday podcast mailbag. Thanks to everybody who sent in questions. As I frequently say, a mailbag show cannot happen without mailbag questions. If your question for this mailbag went unanswered, feel free to resubmit it for the next mailbag.
Today we look at whether Quinnen Williams' deployment had something to do with protecting the backup linebackers the Jets were forced to play in 2019, what a successful Draft in 2020 would look like, what a fair trade back would look like from pick 11, whether taking a cornerback or an edge rusher in the first round would be acceptable, whether all hope would be lost in the new general manager if he picked a defensive lineman in the first round, and what Adam Gase gets wrong on offense..

On yesterday's podcast I offered thoughts on what the Jets need at each position on the offensive side of the ball. Today we move to the defense. I go through each spot on the defense and say what I think the Jets should look to add.
The offensive situation for the Jets is a bigger issue. That is reflected in the 2019 statistics. While the team was near the bottom of the league in offensive productivity a year ago, the Jets had one of the better defenses in the NFL. There is a relatively common theme on the defensive side of the ball. There are plenty of passable players or at least guys who could become viable starters if everything breaks right. What is generally lacking is star power. Adding some might be difficult considering the priority offense will need to take, but this will be worth keeping in mind going forward.
